Yes it is whales. I do have an unnetted fish at one of my cities that is waiting for a border expansion, as well as another whales

Quick update - I looked at the turn last night and I think we have enough gold to get CS in 2t now (might be just short).
Our economy is definitely picking up steam - we're up to 233gpt at max gold, and are actually positive @ 40% science! We have 1-2 more cities that I'm definitely founding, and then there are 2 more that are questionable that we could found.
2 more courthouses finish this turn which means we can probably start the FP soon, which will also be a big help. I plan on putting it in River.

What are the broad strategic moves you plan to make over the next 20 turns?

Defend well if attacked I think. Maybe settle those two additional cities.
With our pop and the large map size I think 20t is too short of a time horizon for us to do anything. Tech wise it will be a nice window, but I don't see us able to produce enough units and get them to a front.

Chat with Parkin
Quote:Lord: ok
Did you notice Locke took Nationalism, immediately adopted Nationhood and drafted max units? I reckon Adlain isn't much longer for this game...
me: i did not notice that
what can he draft? maces?
Lord: yeah
me: so when do you think we should plan a potential strike on plako?
is that something you're still interested in?
Lord: yeah, definitely
well, personally I'd prefer to have some new military tech before a strike
me: gunpowder?
Lord: what kind of time frame are you looking at? Last time I talked you were thinking pretty soon, is that still your intention?
yeah, potentially
me: or guilds maybe?
Lord: could do, would help against those Longbows...
Sent at 13:12 on Tuesday
Lord: basically my preferred time would be somewhere in the 40 turn range, but I could consider doing earlier. The issue with attacking too early is that it makes the war much more difficult, of course...
me: yeah i can see the use of having a tech edge
have you done much mp warring? i ahven't
Lord: loads
me: cool
Lord: I'm not too shabby at it
though the opponents here are all fairly decent, Plako in particular
Sunrise is your military guy, right?
me: yeah he seemed to roll through wk pretty well
yeah
Lord: Right, though he made some mistakes - at least supposedly. (He mentioned to me - possibly propoganda - that he'd delayed finishing off Sparta because he lost a bunch of units in a failed attack.)
me: hmm
Lord: power graph looked like he had a couple of hiccups, but on the whole pretty good
me: yeah
though it's a lot easier when the guy is outclassed military tech-wise...
Lord: indeed... though I believe all of that war was fought on even ground, apart from when WK lost his copper
oh, Catapults were the major problem
so there was a dichotomy there
me: do you have any concept of how fast plako is teching now?
Lord: it doesn't seem particularly fast
hard to tell, but roughly speaking he's merged back with the lower end of the pack
will probably slowly pull back over the course of a dozen or two turns
me: i believe he recently discovered IW
you can see one of the irons in his lands is not mined
Lord: hmm, ok
that's a bit telling
although may just be because he didn't have much/any jungle
I only really researched IW for the jungle cutting
me: yeah
we had a ton of jungle too
so we're looking at a 40t timeframe then
so somewhere around t200?
Lord: yeah, I guess... seems like a nice round number anyway
me: we can probably have astro by then
Lord: indeed, which will help things a lot
me: looks like blockades are not banned in this game
can galleons blockade?
Lord: hmm, I thought all ships could, but I might be mistaken
WB's can't
not sure about transport ships
easily tested anyway
me: yea
could we get rifles by t200?
Sent at 13:31 on Tuesday
Lord: hmm, not sure
I don't know what your research is like
I think I could manage it if I beelined
me: hmm
well your rifles on our galleons maybe?
Lord: yeah, could be an idea
could potentially swap Rifles for Galleons, or something
me: yea
Lord: should have enough of them given the draft...
me: :-D
okay well i'm in a meeting so i should probably let you get back to bed
Lord: righto
me: i just wanted to make sure we were agreed on the general timeline
so we could make plans and such
Lord: yeah, it sounds like we've got a rough plan hammered out
now just need to fill in the details
can do that later on
me: agreed
Lord: righto, catch you later then

Been awhile since we chatted so I thought that I would drop you a line. How are things going? With Paper now out and about and being able to see (most of) the map, it looks like you've got the most land still available to settle.
I don't know if you've been able to get much of the map or not, but it sure has been interesting seeing what different people have done. Lord Parkin sure has a lot of land, and one of the weirdest things I saw was how far west luddite pushed mackoti! Even looking at (what I think is) the original border area they were fighting over, that's SO far from luddite. I'm surprised he was able to do so well that far from his core.
I don't know if you saw, but it looks like Locke took Nationalism from Liberalism, and then it looks like he immediately drafted 5 times (I guess maces?). I don't know if that means Adlain is in trouble or something else? Have you talked to him at all about that? I know that we had talked about possibly attacking Adlain around this time - is that something that you're still interested in? We are still trying to catch up on tech / pop and our neighbors on the other side are getting a little frisy, but still might be up for some excursions, depending on what we're talking about.
I think our current deal has a NAP through T180 - is that something you're interested in extending?
Talk to you later

I don't know if you need to be worried about him or not. Though I guess after looking at CivStats, you were doing plenty of whipping yourself :-D
I was trying to look through our records to see if we had a current NAP and if so, to what turn. I thought that we did but couldn't find the records of that. Do you have any records on that, or if not, is that something you might be interested in?
Talk to you later
Adlain whipped 7 times this past turn

A non-answer followed by 3 long-winded bits of diplomacy with no summary .
