[SPOILERS] Lewger goes for the Bigwyn

Arrrgh. I think after I moved the first 2-mover on that hill and spotted the 2axe+praet, I would have changed direction. But not meaning to second guess - I have such low experience when it comes to combat.

our army was stiffling us, we had to attack. he really didn't have much defending.

lewwyn are you still diverting towards the presets,or just reinforcing the main stack?

I wasnt saying not to attack - but just to leave that initial 2-mover unit on the workers by herself (women in combat!) and keep the rest in the stack.

ah. well I thought of that. but every unit that attacked that stack couldnt be fortified in the city. I'm shocked he even bothered, I woulda wrote off the workers and defended the city. Maybe he was afraid we would flank A7X and go afterr his capital? I dunno.

haven't had time to log in, probably won't until the turn rolls (we're only waiting on xenu). I count 14 battles, so i guess the archers and spear attacked? hmm he must have gotten some horse units in there.

I guess you moved the axe from gilgamesh in? I maybe would have moved the extra axe, chariot, and spear in too, but with promotions I think we'll still take it. probably just those 2 units defending, plus whatever he managed to whip in A7X.

sucks we didn't get those workers - we probably should have deleted them. but I guess if we had had slightly better dice rolls we would have been able to recapture them. Thems the breaks. we can pump out workers quickly from Gilgamesh once it reaches size 9 anyway.

can't wait to see our GPT at 0% shoot way up once the battle is over <G>.

ok, logged in to take pictures before xenu played his turn. Glad I did, lots of interesting stuff.

first, the battlefront:
the workers are just sitting there, we have nothing to take them with cry

1. azza only has a praet, at 0.1/7.0 health (no fortification bonus) and a warrior, at 0.2/2 health (25% fortification bonus). they will promote, but unless azza spends the cash to upgrade the warrior (I don't think he has it, tbh) won't help him much.
2. any spare troops that were in his capital will show up on our next turn. but I can't imagine he had many - all the horse troops came in already
3. he wasn't able to whip a unit smile. he likely switched to an axe or praet, and will whip on his next turn, but we should take the city before that unit appears.
4. this war has already done wonders for economy! it will get better when we a) start working that gold mine b) get our shrine in 5 turns

here you see some reinforcements:

a praet, and 2 archers. no promos. looks like they were going off to found a city near the stone - likely thats aborted with the unexpected (for him) war. unfortunately for azza, that forest tile isn't roaded and it will take him 3 more turns to reach A7X - way too late.

here's the event log for the war:
the combat log would take two or more pictures, you're just going to have to take Lewwyn's word for it wink.

here's some reinforcements:

HA just completed in maths, an builkding an axe behind it. the HA can reach the combat zone if for some reason we don't take the city, or if we need strong garrisons. Originally this axe stack included a spear and a chariot as well. The chariot was brought into the battle after all - but I can't find the spear, I don't really know what Lewwyn did with it frown.

If azza brings the praet and 2 archers to A7x, we can attempt to raze the presets. If he leaves them there (which is probably smart) we won't be able to.

demos at max tax:
already a marked improvement in GNP lol we're actually 84 at max science. Like I said this will get even better very soon.

we found interpol (I guess due to map trades with scooter)

I guessed right - he settled on the ivory. I don't like this city either - he is needlessly orphaning the fish (he's CHA, so he shouldnt be desperate for the happy right away, and he can build a monument or a library).
This gives us some clues, though. he's trading his gems away, probably to commodore. commodore has his own ivory, but since azza doesnt need ivory, he's probably getting a strategic resource in exchange. Commodore has no copper (I think), only one source of iron, but *two* sources of horses. so my best guess is that commodore needs the iron, but can trade away horses for the gems (which makes sense too, azza currently has iron and coipper but no horses).

So after we retake Beowulf, we can expect him to be denied praet builds, but should still expect horse archers and axemen.

The workboat expedition has been a bit of a dissapointment:
I was hoping for 1-3 good city spots over here. Ah well, we'll get to go south and maybe find some islands we can't see yet.
I will say, I think we will get some use out of our unique units once we have astronomy. There's a lot of islands we'll need to conquer smile.

Finally, some good news in the east:

1. serdoa settled a 6th city to make up for the one we took from him. its towards brick/xenu, not towards us, which is good
2. xenu settled a city right on his ass, between serdoa and brick.

good news because:
1. lots of potential for conflict between serdoa and xenu here. Serdoa is still running a bare-bones military, so xenu might just decide to punish him for that at some time. Serdoa, OTOH, might want to take the marble xenu just claimed (although there are several sources of marble in this region, including one we'll be able to claim in the next 30 turns or so).
I also would rather both of them fight each other than Brick, so this is good. Brick I'm hoping to cultivate as a long term ally, with trade routes when one of us get alphabet - since he'll have a lot of cities and I don't view him as a threat to win (or Yuri, when Yuri takes over for Brick).
2. I was worried about establishing contact w/ Xenu, but now it should be quite easy in the next 4-5 turns
Our chariot (not pictures) is just north of Uzmal

Also, Brick now has gold. its in 2nd ring, same city he got Iron in, so its pretty clear why he never accepted our trade.

That spear you're missing is the one that died attacking his HA at 75% odds...

I thought you had him stationed 1W of the odyssey instead of moving in with the stack. I guess you changed your mind?

I wish Azza would hurry and play his turn hammerhammer

ok, well we didn't get a score in crease on azza's turn, so he didn't take our peace offer.

I can't log in to check, looking forward to next turn though. lewwyn we might want to switch odyssey and/or aeneid to axes, depending on how much more losses we need to take back Beowulf. we may have to convince azza he has no chance of retaking it before he gives us peace.
edit: or maybe spears, actually. I think azza is getting horses from commodore. do we have any spears alive?

he had a couple of whips - hopefully both praets, that will not appear if he doesnt have Iron next turn smile.

Grrr.

Azza attacked out with an Ha and 2 chariots and killed an archer and an axe, but lost a chariot.

Attacked with best promoted axe. Lost at 52% which hurt badly.
Attacked at 80% won
Attacked at 90+% won
Attacked at 90+% won
Attacked at 67% lost.

And ran out of units to attack with. Currently in the city Azza has that same fracking praet, now shock, who again survived at .3 health and is the sole survivor. At this point I just wanted to raze the city, which is now size 3 and he still hasn't whipped it. We have an HA that can hit the city next turn and I emptied aenid and Odyssey for more units. If we win either of the two battles there we raze the city and there is much rejoicing. Now it looks like we might have to be on the defensive even.

I started a spear and an archer in aenid and odyssey. Whipped Popul's granary, and moved the axe and teh arcer out of popul to board the gally next turn. Popul will overflow into the walls and then we'll whip an axe there after those are finished.
