Don't see the marble on that screenshot, but, in any event, is chasing wonders with AGG Rome nearby really wise at this point?

Fair point. But then what is wise against Agg Rome. If we don't concentrate on our traits and advantages but rather try to counter Aggressive Rome, then we will have lost that game already.

I had another look at the map.
I think we should make an attempt to secure that Marble with our first settler.
Unfortunately it is a walk through lots of woods.

I suggest to move Siegfried NE this turn to cover some of the way before the settler starts.
Obviously we can review the situation in the next turns, as Beowulf unfogs more of the area. Should we miss the spot, than there is always the Corn/Wine spot to settle.

The 2nd settler should go to the stones in the SW. Although I feel that this area is pretty secure for us, Stone opens up lots of nice early wonders.

But grabbing resources to build wonders doesn't fit so well to your traits either. Don't forget that you have a UU-UB combo that is so good it's considered broken in certain MP games. Little point building wonders for Rome to take at their leisure, so my advice is to try to balance your game between early military & wonders.

Especialy Piramids are the big invitation. BTW do someone know how to counter aggresive pretorians?

Sign a NAP and watch them crush someone else lol

Any city in their direction would need to be settled on a hill and have a mixture of archers & axes to defend. Culture is essential, so I'd go for a cheap library in this case (in an attempt to get to 40% culture in time).

The marble spot is VERY ambitious and would be over 10 tiles east and 10 tiles north from our capital. Then again, playing safe won't get us very far. This can be our Pink Dot smile

I have moved Siegfried NE anyways, and we shall see what Beowulf reveals over the next few turns. I believe there is another coast directly W of where he is right now. Our decision needs to be made pretty fast though, considering that the settler will be completed in 2 turns.

How do we want to approach ruff/TAD? Perhaps we should keep lines of communication open and send another friendly e-mail?

T39:

Beowulf moved W
Lacplesis moved W. Do we want to heal him?
Odysseus moved N
Siegfried moved NE
Höpfner completed the forest chop

Settler due in 1, worker next
Fishing due in 2, Pottery next

We met Broker33 this turn. I switched all EP spending away from ruff/TAD onto him. He has also met ruff and is the founder of Buddhism.

mh, do you want to send him an e-mail of greeting? Here is his message:

Quote:Well Met
I have run accross your warrior.
How is your exploration going?
Have you met anyone else?
Ruff is a few squares in front of you about 10 turns.
Can you give me some directions.
Lastly you interested in religionsmile

From this message, we confirm he founded Buddhism and has met ruff. It also confirms that the east must somehow connect to the northeast.

Here is the situation in the NE:

From initial glance, I would say found on the jungled hill because it is also across a river.

I am off to bed, but I am anxious to hear your thoughts smile

Lacplesis should move onto the forest hill and heal next turn.

I cluttered the map with some move suggestions.
Beowulf should go SW and then move to intercept our settler.

The jungle hill tile looks good. Good for defence and a nice little choke point. We miss the clams, but gain the river tiles. I am all for it.
So the settler goes there next, agreed?

I vetoed your EP management. We can see Ruff's research in 3 turns. I want to wait for that and then switch to Broker. We lose nothing by delaying Brokers demographs.

I sent the following message to Broker:
Quote:Hello, as you know we already met Ruff but noone else. We can see that you have met others apart from us and Ruff. Are they far away? As for giving you directions, it depends what your scouts are looking for? Our core is NW of your current position. Care to indicate how far you have travelled to meet us? We are indeed interested in religion. What are you proposing? Regards mh & Kodii

Also FYI:
As far as I can make out from the demoscreen, the first 2nd cities are up already.
And from the EP spending between Ruff & Broker, we can see that Ruff switched all his EPs from us to Broker, when he met him ~12turns ago and that Broker met someone before Ruff already.

My last question concerning the city site, did you check how big the distance upkeep will be?
