RBPB4 [SPOILERS] - De Gaulle of the Egyptians

I'm still convinced you should head towards the (probable) centre of the map, so I'd go 1SW. It likely doesn't matter though.

I grok that Charismatic War Chariots are terrifying, but leveraging the obelisk to fund expansion never occurred to me (as opposed to light-bulbing early religions). Would an 'extra city' running a pair of priest specialists to generate great prophets be self funding?

Okay, you make a certain amount of sense, so 1SW it is. smile

A rough calculation suggests that it would be, at least for the first and possibly second Great Prophets. After that, the base cost for the number of points to get a Great Person go up too much. With a Philosophical civ, you might be able to get out a third one and make it worthwhile.

Either way, after the 2nd or 3rd Great Prophet I think it's probably necessary to stop for a while, or else it'll be too hard to generate a Great Scientist for the Academy that'll be necessary around Civil Service (if not before). But the couple of Great Prophets that you get at the start certainly help a huge amount in offsetting expansion costs (not to mention raising hammer counts).

Okay, so the Warrior headed 1SW as planned.

Where to next... 1SW again towards the centre of the map, or 1NW to get a good view of more of the north near that Rice before looping back south?

We'll finish our first Worker next turn by the way. Orders will be to head to the 3f/1h Deer tile and start building a Camp.

By the way, the coast we can see to the south of our Warrior is part of a 10+ tile lake or sea (as there's no fresh water on the adjacent land). So far it seems that 4-tile lake we found near the start is the only freshwater lake near us, in this direction at least.

Oh, one other thing. WarlordDR had a score increase this turn. A nine-turn tech... that's got to be either Mysticism or Mining, surely, unless he's playing some tricks. But then he started with Fishing/Hunting, so he couldn't have researched anything cheaper than 9 turns.

So I'm putting my money on Mining. wink Bronze Working next from him if that's the case, one would logically assume.

Hi Lord Parkin and others.
Just thought I'd post to say I'm exclusively lurking this thread.
I'm particularly interested in trying to figure out the other players plans through the demographics. With espionage turned off do you get to see the opponents graphs once you meet them? Could you post screenshots of these?

PS: This is my first post at Realms Beyond - but I'm familiar with posting/reading restrictions etc. from the civfanatics community.

It's worth pointing out that espionage isn't "off" in this game - as in, the setting for "No Espionage" hasn't been ticked. Instead, we simply have a "gentleman's agreement" that no-one will build Spies, and thus that espionage will only be a passive thing. We are, however, still generating espionage points, and as such graphs/research/cities will only be visible once we have accumulated enough espionage points on someone.

Aside from this though, we haven't actually met anyone else in the game yet, so we can't see any graphs anyway. We can see the numbers on the demographics screen though (food/MFG/GNP/etc), as they're available right from the start. That's all for the moment though.

We'll certainly keep track of graphs, research and any other information available through espionage as soon as we meet someone and accumulate enough espionage, though. smile

Okay, neat. I think there's a "Lurker Behaviour" thread in this forum that probably details the expected etiquette, if you haven't already read it. Basically, it should be fairly common sense - if you do happen to read any other threads, just don't post spoiler-related information here (or there). smile

Anyway, as I said before - glad to have you with us, and hope you enjoy the show!

At risk of sounding like a broken "1SW" playing record, I'd be inclined to do it again. My reason this time though particularly is that you'll get a view along the coast. The shape of it might tell you a lot about which way to go in the future.

When zigzagging to explore, sticking to one diagonal direction for a while will reveal more tiles (and a more spread out set of tiles) than changing direction more frequently. So that's the other reason for my making the same suggestion every time.

I'm looking forward to it smile

I agree with Irgy that generally moving in one direction might be the better play. If you can find some coastlines then you can start trying to figure out what map script this is. Or did I miss something and we already know it? (aside from that it is cylindrical)
