Era of defense

We probably can't win Circumnav since they finished Optics this turn before us. We should not give them free reign in our sea. That makes things very expensive forcing us to build defenders for all our coastal cities. On land we've all we need at this point. When we could reach either Gunpowder or Guilds our cities would be too weak to build a significant amount of more advanced land units.

Logged in to check things out. No sign of TEAM starting a war. New Knights in the border cities though. I think I'll dedicate one fast worker to check things out in the border area. If they don't start the war, we could try to use our HAs to raze something badly defended in the border area.

Keep in mind we have a "no first strike" deal. We have to give half a turn warning before attacking, and vice versa.

I logged in and took a brief look, didn't stay long coz Old Harry was logged in.

Our citizens are a bunch of whiners!

Gillette seem to have been taking a peek at our cities and found them adequately defended. Not sure if that was this turn or last turn.

We're not gonna finish any tech any time soon, but I would put either Feudalism or Astro as a place holder. Opinions?

I'm not sure we've time to build theatres. Main reason would be run temporarily culture slider so we could adopt representation before our GA ends. That is a very good reason.

Still thinking what to do. We want to have option to hit their land stack so I'll try to move everything so that they'll be on range. Best alternative fot them is retreat so I hope they don't take it.

Upgrading 4 triremes costs 150 gold so I'll do that. Also I'll focus all our coastal cities on Caraval duty. We want lots of them.

Concerning Drama 10% slidercosts us roughly 30-35 commerce. We probably gain ~40 beakers so if we can get the happiness effect we want with 10% slider we should take it. If we need 20% it starts to be questionable. I've no idea what the overall effect would be. Does anybody know the mechanics behind culture slider happiness? Is it 1 happy face for 10% and another if we've Theatre and 3rd with Dyes.

btw. Optics brought ocean tiles with yields visible in the SE.

Happiness from culture slider is 1 smile per 10% slider, plus 1 extra per 10% from theatres, plus 1 extra per 20% from colosseums. In addition colosseums give one happy regardless of slider setting, and theatres give one happy from dyes.

I say go for Drama. We want the tech even if we end up not using the slider.

Maybe we can afford to hire a few specialists again now? Haven't checked where they will pop, but two more GPs would be nice for another Golden Age. HN and either Ramune or the capital, I guess.

(Drama is also nice for theaters and their artist slots.)
