Believe it or not, I never tried that combo - I always liked to have nine or ten Books. (Crusading Archangels, anyone?) But recently I took a break from the Zombie Hobbit Apocalypse (Black Channelled Wraithformed Slingers) to experiment a bit... I tag teamed Runemaster+Artificier with Alchemist to make it really exploitive ("Less isn't more, more is more"). It's a steady revenue stream, freely convertible to gold, limited by your Skill (Which you immediately raise to 100% and leave there). It starts at around ten gold per turn, nothing (at first) to jump up and down about, really...
Figuring I'd already gone halfway down the rabbit hole, I went all the way. I ALSO picked Warlord (the two sacrificed Books represent two extra random spells per difficulty level) - and High Men (I rush-completed most improvements in half the time).
For my Books (and guaranteed Common Spells) I picked Life (Guardian Spirit), Nature (Water Walking) and Sorcery (Nagas).
By the end of the game I had a stack of Warlord led (led by Deth Stryke), Spell Locked, Magic Resisting, Wind Guarding, Water Walking Pathfinding Enduring Lion-Hearted Paladins equipped with Holy Armor and Holy (mithril!) Weapons. Who needs Crusade, anyway???
