Sumer starts Agriculture/Wheel. If he wanted to leverage early chops, he didn't have time for Hunting. Maybe his goal was to get Bronze Working first so his first city could be settled with knowledge of copper, then swing back for the other worker techs?

[spoilers] DTG thinks filthy casuals are ruining Realms Beyond

Elkad accepted our peace offer:
It looks like our Scout will be back just in time to meet our first Settler. Such excellent long-term planning.
Speaking of long-term planning, can I toss a name into the ring for a city? I was watching The Lion King, and Be Prepared has the amazing line "Our teeth and ambitions are bared," which is the rhetorical device syllepsis.
Glad that the turn pace has picked up. (July 26th, 2016, 00:07)picklepikkl Wrote: Speaking of long-term planning, can I toss a name into the ring for a city? If we found Buddhism, it shall unofficially be known as Syllepsisim, and Scar will serve as our god.We have a good overview of the land to our west now: 1NW of the Deer or 1E of the Fur look good for City #3. Elkad didn't whip at size 2, so I will be interested to see what he's doing. In other news, someone (probably pindicator) settled their second city on T26. NylesStandish whipped something. We also have graphs on Nicolae now. His opening looks to be the same as ours, but his tech path is different and his development has been a little bit slower (non-Expansive). Want to work out his tech path from the Power graph? ![]()
Syllepsis is founded. We are the second civ to get a second city after pindicator, although Nyles and OT4E could still throw down a city when they play later:
I am thinking about founding city #3 and #4 by the Furs: 2E and 1SW in quick succession. This would let us avoid Animal Husbandry in the short-term and claim the stupidly rich Cow/Pig/Fur/Clam area without a border pop. But it would be risky and may leave us too exposed, not to mention the fact that I am not sure if we can even produce two Settlers and a defender/defenders quickly enough. Buddhism is now a coin flip at worst. Will our opening be pretty good or pretty bad?
Gaaa ... looking at the city ... and adding Holy to it actually makes me a little nervous. Don't get me wrong ... I like the city placement ... but I think we should make sure that we can hold these great cities that we have.
Edit: Forgot that we have another 5t of enforced peace. Can someone post an F4 so that I can see the tech situation? I should probably look into d/l the mod and log-in myself.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Here's our research situation:
(I assume you meant F6 and not F4; F4 is diplo) And yeah, I'm super paranoid about keeping what we've got. I think our next tech has pretty much got to be Archery, just so we don't lose Syllepsis if Elkad shows up with any axes at all. Nicolae also has BW, from squinting at demos, but is farther away. I assume tracking him down is our Scout's current job? Hopefully, the delay to BW from going for Meditation doesn't prove fatal. ![]()
GODDAMMIT DTG YOU HAD ME FREAKING OUT THAT OUR GAME WAS ALREADY WRECKED
WELL TROLLED SIR (also hey, I didn't realize it processed the religion founding before doing culture calculations, that's pretty convenient for our purposes, especially the extra vision) What timezone are you in, by the way? (July 28th, 2016, 20:52)picklepikkl Wrote: GODDAMMIT DTG YOU HAD ME FREAKING OUT THAT OUR GAME WAS ALREADY WRECKED ![]() I'm in GMT. ----- Here's an overview of the map: Note NC's Warrior, which means we can figure out how close his capital is to our own. ----- Alright, so some thoughts on defense. Our Quecha in Syllepsis will defeat two Warriors >90% of the time. Elkad would need to gather three Warriors to rush at us, but we can build a second Quecha at short notice if need be (absolute earliest = T36, i.e. as soon as he could attack). So I cannot see him rushing at us with Warriors, though it is possible. I'm 95% sure that Copper is located outside of the capitals' BFCs, for balancing reasons, and Elkad has not yet been able to mine it due to his capital move. This (probably) means that he will need a Settler to claim Copper, and that the quickest source of a Vulture would mean founding directly on top of the resource, in a coastal spot, while getting Fishing for an instant trade network (really sub-optimal, but let's work with this). Elkad's build order must have been Worker ---> Warrior ---> Worker, because I noticed this last night: T23–24: Uruk grew from size 1–2 T25: chop 2S (= +20H) T26: road 1S finished T27: farm 1/5 T28: farm 2/5 T29: farm 3/5 T30: farm 4/5 ^^^ the farm could not be finished with one Worker. Thinking about the hammer count at size 2: T24: 0/60H (work Wheat + anything else) T25: 8/60H T26: 36/60H T27: 44/60H T28: 52/60H T29: 60/60H = Worker, goes to farm (4/5) Imagine that he went for a Settler as his next build, and that he tried to build this ASAP. He'd now get +10FHPT from the Wheat/Corn/CC, meaning: T30: 8/100H (move to Forest) (Farm 5/5) T31: 18/100H (chop 1/3) (move to Forest) T32: 28/100H (chop 2/3) (chop 1/3) T33: 38/100H (chop 3/3) (chop 2/3) T34: 68/100H (-----------) (chop 3/3) T35: 98/100H T36: 118/100H Now if he chooses to grow his capital, his Settler will obviously be delayed. Regardless, the earliest he can settle would be T37, meaning the earliest Vulture he could produce would be T39, assuming that he settles directly on a Copper, has a trade-route, and commits via two more chops or a whip (both very inefficient). The Vulture would then be at Syllepsis on T43. The test file suggests we can get an Archer from the capital on T38, into Syllepsis on T40: So I don't *think* there is any reason to worry about losing the city, although Elkad could be annoying and camp the Sheep, or something like that. |
