[SPOILER] Close to Win

Oh and as you can see I'm on my way to Polytheism. So far nobody founded religions so the next turns will be a little bit tense while I'm watching the religious advisor. We will know more in T53 when Polytheism is done.

Well that's an unexpected end to my exploration in the south-west. Only way is back.

In other worse news: Hinduism was founded this turn most likely by Mjmd, but maybe even Superdeath or pindicator. That means I will adjust my plans and I will go for Monotheism.

Well, with Masonry already banked (if I'm remembering your screenshots correctly), you should be well-placed scared .

I think so too. Polytheism is already half done and there aren't many players, who finished Polytheism let alone Monastery. What I'm contemplating right now is if I should go Monotheism->Priesthood->Monarchy next instead of teching to currency. I have the wine in my BFC and the extra happiness from Heredetary Rule certainly helps. At the same time I would also switch to Organized Religion. Only problem is that there is no Great Person in sight for a golden age, so I would have to eat 2 turns of anarchy (1 for religion).

Very interesting turn, but first here is a little T50 data dump as requested by Jowy in the tech thread:

Now the interesting thing I mentioned is that Giraflorens did lose a city on the turn roll, while Jowy was logged in. Now Jowy and Giraflorens don't have contact in the game, so Giraflorens must have lost the city by a barbarian attack.

In less interesting news, as you can see in the first screenshot, the eastern scout didn't uncover any more seafood tiles in the inner sea. Now all hope for those fishing villages rest in the two unexplored tiles. Please let there be food. please

EDIT: And as you can see my next settler is on it's way and will settle the 4th city next turn.

I was just planning Monotheism and I really would like Judaism to be founded in BerserkHalfling. Two important question came up here:

1. How exactly does the term choose which city?
2. Does the game deceide on the holy city before or after that city grew?

I start with the second question as it's quicker to answer. The game first decides on the holy city and after that decision the city grows. That's because the holy city decision is done during the tech progress steps of the game and those are done before iterating through all cities.

With that out of the way back to the first question. There's already good knowledge about it and it involves random numbers, the cities population and if the palace is present. First here is the code:

Code:
    for (pLoopCity = firstCity(&iLoop); pLoopCity != NULL; pLoopCity = nextCity(&iLoop))
    {
        if (!bStarting || !(pLoopCity->isHolyCity()))
        {
            iValue = 10;
            iValue += pLoopCity->getPopulation();
            iValue += GC.getGameINLINE().getSorenRandNum(GC.getDefineINT("FOUND_RELIGION_CITY_RAND"), "Found Religion");

            iValue /= (pLoopCity->getReligionCount() + 1);

            if (pLoopCity->isCapital())
            {
                iValue /= 8;
            }

            iValue = std::max(1, iValue);

            if (iValue > iBestValue)
            {
                iBestValue = iValue;
                pBestCity = pLoopCity;
            }
        }
    }

So what does this mean in plain old english. We iterate through all cities in order of founding. Then we do the following

1. The city starts with a base value of 10
2. We add the cities population to that value
3. We add a random number between 0 and 10
4. We divide that number through the amount of religions present in the city + 1 (that last one so that we don't divide by zero)
5. If this city is the capital we divide the number by 8
6. We guarantee that this number is at least 1
7. We compare this value with the last best value if it's higher, then this cities value is the new best value and the city is more likely to be choosen.

So what do we learn from this:

1. The algorithm favors earlier founded cities, simply because they can set a higher best value earlier
2. Population difference isn't really that big of a game changer, especially if the difference is very small.

This post will most likely go into my curious civ player section after that game, but for now the important infos for me in this game is that a pop difference of 1 is neglectable and that the city grows after the founding.

And a nice barbarian city. I also settled my 4th city DiplomatKobold this turn, but didn't took a screenshot of it, because we all know that I settled the red dot and nothing interesting was revealed in the fog. Same reason why I don't show the 3rd border pop from the cap.

I have my first barbarian visitor. Hopefully he goes away or attacks CommandoPygmies. With the Dun done in time I will have a 99.5% of winning. Aside from the 0.5% chance of losing the city, the worst thing he could do is pillage the copper.

You can also see the newly founded DiplomatKobolds in the screenshot. Just for a little reference in my last PB (PB40) I also settled a city in T51, but there it was my third - Improvement! smile Now to be fair that game was RtR, Emperor and I didn't have a commerce bonus like Mysticism or PRO there. Still an improvement though.

EDIT: Totally forgot this. One of either Mr. Cairo, pindicator or Giraflorens founded Buddhism.

See. It's not hard. You just need to talk with those barbarians in the right way. smile The southern barbarian even turned back into the fog of war.
