We do seem to have got below average luck in the battles again.

We took out 12 cats, 4 grenadiers, a knight and a musket. Which is not a lot.

He won 14/18 battles at about 65-70%, which isn't far off expected. But then he won about 38/40 battles with odds starting at about 70% and ending at about 90%. In fact, there were some of those that were 50:50. Rum luck.

Not sure why he didn't send in all his cats first. He was fighting some of our muskets with grenadiers. Bit strange. It didn't matter, because he didn't lose any of those battles. But still.

Not totally sure about attacking with our wounded stack by the way. I see that we're trying to get gren/knight kills rather than wait to be attacked by cats, but I got really poor odds when first checking our attack odds. He has some healthy units left.

The bad luck we got in our combat odds is pretty annoying. My vague impression is that we should have lost 10 fewer units and mackoti 10 more. That would have made a big difference. There was the boat attack too.

To get this run is, I would have thought, perfectly within the realms of possibility, but there have been some slightly unusual attacking patterns.

However, I don't want to detract from the fact that I made a bad move, and it was exploited well by mackoti. I should have retreated back across the river once we realised he had so many units and a Great Artist.

We'd be ok right now if it wasn't for that Great Artist.

Well to share the burden I started playing the turn yesterday and I've already pulled off some impressive smoke. So you don't have to fear scapegoat status. I needed to cool down both myself and the computer before continuing, though. Stay tuned.

Good thing it's just a game. smile

Save sent on. I have a half-finished turn report that I'll have to finish up later.
I have to run.

So, here was the combat log that met us when opening the save:

Here's what was left of our 80-unit stack:

Mackoti had built a fort defending his stack, and had some GG supergrenadiers as stack defenders. For our surviving units I had three options:
- Retreat into Give me a name
- Delete them
- Attack Mackoti's stack at low odds to try and kill of some grenadiers

A word of warning before you read on: If you've just been sucker-punched, it's probably a good idea to sleep on it before you start playing the save.

Mackoti had a lot of strong units with promotions pending, and a nice stack of catapults, so defending Give me a name wouldn't achieve anything except kill off a few catapults, I reckoned. So I decided to kill off some units instead. rolleye smoke

A city raider III cannon got decent odds on the stack defender:

...but the cannon lost without getting in a single hit. Oh well, in for a penny, in for a pound(ing). Since I didn't have any better use for it, I attached our Great General to a cannon to get another promotion. Unfortunately, Lady Luck did not cooperate, and I lost a series of 10-40% battles.

So here was the situation, as another musket bravely died:

Notice anything? Yeah, Ephesus is undefended. smoke
We have two war chariots. With a great general and the morale promotion we can raze Ephesus. Only problem is

So... yeah. I finished off my attack instead, leaving this:

I certainly killed off some units... our units. With two survivors I guess that means we killed two of Mackoti's grenadiers. Yay. At least this turn report should demonstrate that we don't do save skimming.

Our fleet couldn't stay in those forts as they would die if a culture bomb took them over. And I didn't want them trapped in the lakes either. So I rallied our fleet 2SW of Callisto. Next turn we can potentially load the galleons and go fork Argos and Thebes. Our fleet is selected, Mackoti's fleet is highlighted. He also has 8-odd galleons a bit further south.

I evacuated Give me a name, and offered that city plus Nix to Mackoti for peace. I also offered white peace to Luddicator because war is hell.

Then I went and played with my children.
I have to run.

Indeed it does thumbsup . And given what has happened in this game so far I do understand why Seven prefered to step out.
