Quote:Thanks for the update - so are you on the coast? Or a peninsula of some sort? I will share one interesting thing that I just found out about the map - I thought that I was on the coast, but instead it just turned out to be a ~25 tile salty lake. So if you are on the coast or have coast nearby, you may be in a similar situation.
I of course know that he is landlocked, but just downplaying my all knowing knowledge

Chaseup mesage to sunrise
Quote:Hey there Sunrise.
Haven't seen you around today but maybe I'm set up differently - I'm home from work as my wife is sick today so I'm watching all the kiddos.
Anyway just wanted to confirm that we are on for the summit meeting - Charlie the warrior will be mounting the hill as soon as the turn ticks over to T28, but T29 he has to be heading elsewhere.
Also, when my borders popped on T25 I found some interesting things about the map that I'd like to talk over with you.
Let me know when you're around

Played T28. Charlie moved to the summit tile in the SW and met the warrior Primo of Sumeria (Dreylin / Kalin) as well as officially making contact with sunrise (by spotting his borders)
Sent off an email to the league of lin
Quote:Well hello there League of Lin!!!
The grand T28 summit has come to pass, and your warrior Primo and my Charlie have just finished their rock skipping contest across the great sea. I think we're still waiting on the official ballots to be tallied, but there were some good ones for sure!
I should also point out that I will be pasting every paragraph of our conversations in to separate posts in a blatant post count padding move :-D
But seriously - how goes it? I don't know what if anything sunrise has told you from our brief conversations, but I share a continent with shadyforce (Persia) and Imhotep (Zulu), who I have both met, along with ZPV (Carthage) who I have not. There is also talk of dsplaisted (Mali) on a separate continent to the south. Then I know of you and sunrise on this continent. Have you met or do you know of anyone else?
So here's a weird question. I am currently researching Fishing, and I thought that when I met you and sunrise that I would get an extra beaker per turn (I know, I know...) but it does not appear to be working that. I thought that you would have had Fishing by now (and Sunrise started with it), but either you don't, or I'm figuring something out wrong, or it just won't show up till the turn rolls over.
Anything else exciting to talk about?
Note that I continue giving them the impression that this is a sea between us, and not a lake. I think it's in my best interests to try and slow down their contacts with the folks over here.

Let's see if this works - I attached this image to the last post but let's see if I can make it show up here
Tentative dotmap.
Green Township is green dot of course, currently mapped out to the "uber spot".
Red Dot is the future Moai site
Brown dot (could maybe move 1W depending on the fog) picks up clams and cows and is probably founded next
Cyan dot is tentative of course, but is designed to shorten the front to the SE. Green dot is protected to the SW by the 1 tile access due to the lake
Orange dot is a filler dot for later. Could borrow some tiles and maybe work cottages for Green Twp.

Well met! We are happy to meet your fine civilization and we'll extend our thanks to Sunrise for helping facilitating this meeting.

What do you think we will be doing? Are we in a competition here? Just joking...

Wow, it sounded a bit crowded over there. And two civs with early UUs to boot We wish you best of luck in that respect!
We have met Sunrise as you know and Broker of the HRE is in the far south. The map is very interesting and it is possible we may have missed someone. We are still exploring

It's funny you mention the discount as we were also discussing this. First we don't start with Fishing so that's a reason for not getting anything. You may want to check this:
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy...search.php
My understanding is that if you don't have something around 20 beakers the discount is too small to see it. If you find anything else, I'd be happy if you shared it with us
Anything else exciting to talk about?
Not much at the moment. The map looks quite interesting so far, so I am quite looking forward to the game.
We are looking forward to a peaceful relationship and many trades!
Kalin of the League
Also chatted with Kalin for a bit. Turns out he does NOT have Fishing, which is why no discount. Shoot. Guess the C&D department needs to go back to work. T6 - They must have gotten Hunting.

I'd move red 1 NE: Madrid is going to exert too much influence on those clams for even a CRE civ to wrestle them over. Would also more overlap with Orange, but I'm not sure that's a great loss
Maoi's best for an otherwise crappy filler, so I wouldn't waste it on red.

That's a good point Swiss, and I had thought about that. It's certainly something that bears looking at.
One thing I have going for me is that Madrid's 100 culture borders have already popped, and the clams are not in it. The 500 culture borders (at 7 cpt) aren't going to pop for another 60 turns. Say 50-55 turns maybe as he gets some more things in there. That does give me some time to get that city founded and some culture there.
Moving it 1NE does pick up 2 hills (the tile it originally was going to sit on and the plains hill near Cincinnati that would have been wasted)
If we do move Red 1NE (and maybe even if we don't), moving Green back to 1E or 1SE of the copper would reduce overlap (probably eliminating orange). I have to say I'm still a bit nervous about having to wait 6 extra turns to be able to start a spear or axe (1 extra turn for settling, 5 for borders to expand)

Another shot at a dotmap
Orange dot could be a filler city, a bit more of one (if cyan is further SE) or not even founded (if cyan is further NW)
This moves Red 1NE, and puts green SE of the copper, so it doesn't get the bananas.

Quote:Justin Specting passed by that connecting land but I assumed was just a peninsula at the time. I didn't try to go up it because it was full of jungle/forest at the southern entrance and I wanted to head towards my city. But I'm surprised to hear that your capital is founded on a John Nolan Lake rather than a John Nolan Fjord. I wonder is it even big enough to build galleys on (not that you'd really need to). Incidentally, that isthmus to your east is 3 tiles wide at the southern edge before it hits the real coast. (If you build 3 forts does that make a canal? Or can canal's be only 1 tile wide?)
Unfortunately, there is no other copper in the area between us. There is some fog to the north east of my capital I have not yet explored and there may be some there, but probably not. As for horses... are you telling me your C&D department does not know whether I know Animal Husbandry or not yet? Tsk tsk. I don't know it yet. I will soon. Although despite of my unique unit, copper is still much more valuable than horses (Spear beats any horse unit, nothing beats any copper unit until Crossbows). Is there any copper to the north of you?
Justin Specting has found coast while travelling west towards Carthage. The relevant coast tile is 11 south, 3 west of Cincinnati. It, along with the 2-tile lake, the peak beside the river and that inlet thing your capital is built on the mouth of, represents the closest thing I can see to a natural land boundary. There is a fair chunk of land behind that line, including the copper. Everything east and south-east of that line would be mine and the land south of the line would probably be contested with Carthage.
The one problem is the cow site east of Cincinnati. I know you liked the idea of a city there, presumably because the cow will soon be in your culture (I originally thought because copper was there!) but it doesn't really fit with the north-west/south-east geographic boundary I outlines above. It would not be dissimilar from Cape Copper in the Demogame. It would have been quite amusing if that's where the copper actually was. It's near your capital as the crow flies, but it would be geographically isolated because of that inlet thing.
Anyway, let me know what you think. I still have to find Carthage to establish how close they actually are.
I would find it surprising that there is only the one copper in this whole area. It would be different if it were in the middle in such a way that it would entice fighting about it, but this one is 8 tiles from me and 22 from him.

I don't think red dot (original) has any hope of holding onto the clams for more than 20-30 turns and the extra hills we can use by moving it to where Swiss suggested makes sense to me.
Question to you about the uber spot though, what do you see it focusing on?
It has 4 hills (3 if we settle on the hill), dyes, ivory, fish and possibly banana, plus its on a river. I'm struggling to see what would be best for the city
edit - possibly shady hasn't scouted as much as us because I find it hard to believe sullla would give him no metal to work with, still maybe he deliberately didn't balance resources that way to make it interesting!
