Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

RP Pitboss #2 [SPOILERS] - Darius I of the Holy Roman Empire

It's also worth noting that Dantski has already founded his second city.

-After the warrior is finished (1 turn) he should probably move east.

-I think we should put some more hammers into another warrior until size 5, then make a worker, finish the warrior, then settler. What do you think? That should probably be it for most of our warrior construction since better units should be ready by then. Unless, of course, we plan on Hereditary Rule + cheap military garrisons.

Thanks!
So we whip at size 5? That would mean when building a worker, right?
Second settler will go to gold site or west coast to block Dantski?

What to research next? IW? Writing? Or do we beeline CoL and try for the Oracle along the way, to get our Rathaus online?

DMOC Wrote:I'll check the game for specifics. However, Nakor, you'll want to know some general facts:

-Whipping is best done by whipping 2 population points, so that 60 hammers goes into production for the price of 1 happy face
-The amount of overflow as a result of the whip cannot exceed the build cost of whatever we're producing next - those extra hammers go to waste
Actually the amount of overflow cannot exceed the build cost of whatever you're whipping. It can exceed the build cost of your next item, in which case you get another overflow into the second next item.

Thanks, Novice!
Hope to know a lot more about whipping after this game.

Warrior and settler met up north, second city will be founded next turn. Monument will be started there.

The worker roading north is on his way, but building roads and the mine take a long time, therefore I suggest sending him north after the next road to mine the copper first, then irrigate the rice, then road the copper (or vice verca).
The second worker can move north then to finish the road before starting a road to the furs and to our third city site.

Warrior 4 will be done next turn, therefore I send warrior 3 east to start scouting.

It will take 3 turns for Rolan to grow to size 5, pottery will be done then as well.

I suggest we go for CoL a.s.a.p.
Or do we want IW first? We need that to connect marble (need masonry for that as well).

Suggestions, people?

Novice - thanks for the info, I was wondering if I was right/wrong wink

Nakor - your beeline to CoL is a sound strategy in this scenario. Usually courthosues are a waste of time early in the game since they are expensive and don't help the economy that much (cities have to be really large in order for maintenance costs to get noticeable), but our courthouses are (1) double the speed and (2) 50% more effective than normal ones are. We should definitely consider whipping them in our future cities. I wouldn't try to produce the Oracle, though. I think we have better things to do than build a relatively expensive wonder without marble or the industrious trait - we could get an extra city. And no tech trading is on so we can't take advantage of a free tech for trade reasons. I also don't think we need Iron Working this early - we already have copper (or will have it), and axemen are generally better than swordsmen anyway.

I agree with you about the worker. Usually when I play civ games, I send my first worker with the settler so the second city gets improved ASAP, then have another worker from the capital finish the road connection. The bonus for improving the copper/rice/cow in the city outweigh the benefits of getting trade routes but no improvements. Follow your plan you stated in post 114 (or I can do it if I manage to log in and play our turn). One thing I noticed is that you are goign to farm before roading the copper - I would advise that you road the copper first, then farm the rice. The sooner we get copper connected, the sooner we can breathe easily. smile

And also ... my worker-warrior-settler plan was to keep the capital at size 5 and whip for 2 only when we are producing our settler. I'll check the game and see if whipping the worker is feasible. My guess is that it is, since we've got plenty of food right now for fast growth.

I am really curious as to which city is best for city #3 - the gold one, or a city in between our capital and the second. There's the risk that Dantski will found a city between ours - not a situation I like (on the other hand, it's probably not a situation he likes since his city will be surrounded both ways). I think it's safe for us to go to the gold city and then found a city between city 2 and our capital as city 4. What do you think?

Reminder: work the rice, so the city grows to size 2 ASAP, then we whip the monument (unless the copper gets improved before the city grows to size 2 - in that case it might be best to save our whip for something else, like an axemen or barracks, if necessary). My estimate is that we will not have to whip our second city for the monument since we'll be getting 5 hammers (it's on plains, IIRC) from the mine.

The game is getting exciting now. smile

-By the way, I have been checking the game more often recently. You're doing a nice job nakor. The worst of my work has passed, and while there is still a lot to do, I will try to play some of the turns and analyze the best city builds but only of we both agree on our plans. smile

Thanks, DMOC!

The worker won't take that long to build, but I'll wait on your input on the whipping. Really not my thing.

I think we can go for the gold site too, but would try to build a third settler soon to block Dantski.

Second city can start building axes, I guess? Do we want Barracks there?

Ok, we beeline CoL. Let's go for Med first, we might get a religion. Still nothing founded. Then writing, priesthood, CoL. Might even get 2 religions that way...

Have you got thoughts on how to name our cities?

It's probably all spam! smile

Sure you were planning to do it, but be cool to see a piccie of the lands when the new city appears!

How do you feel the game is going so far?

BobRoberts:
I'll post a pic after next turn, when te next city is founded.

I've got the feeling that we're doing pretty ok. Things were a bit shaky with the worker first start and Dantski's power way above us, but now we're getting on the same level and axes will appear soon to defend us.
I think our tech rate is really good and if we can even improve that, we can go a long way, I guess. Superior units should be able to keep us safe.
It would be awesome if we can get Meditation first (7 turns from now) and get Hinduism, but I consider that a bonus.

We need to get into contact with other to get a better overview of how we're doing.

DMOC, what are our plans untill 1AD? I suggest we rex like crazy and not plan any war. Or do you think we need to take Dantski out soon and plan an axe rush? If we focus on our science and expansion we should get supperior units after 1AD and be able to attack someone.

About naming the cities, if it's ok with you, I'll name them after the cities on Midkemia (fantasty series of Feist).

Cheers for the answers there: Gives me something to distract myself from the work I'm meant to be doing!

Meditation giving the extra pay off would be cool. Strange how it differs from the single player experience in regards to the fallout of the religions.

Axes would definitely add a nice security blanket feeling...

Midkemia - wonder if you can build yourself a Pug? smile
