RBP3 [Spoilers] Capac of Mali

Sounds good to me! I've switched to a worker and ended turn.

I take it that we're planning to settle city 3 for the horses & cows, so I've put a sign down on the grass tile that would get both in the first ring.

Regarding worker optimization, how about building the road, and revolting to Slavery after the warrior is complete. Then mine completion should align once more with growth to size 4 (I think).

T38 played, turn ended. Worker restarted chop, Mick heals in the forest, and Keef heads north onto a hill and finds...not much alright Should Keef continue north to find other civs? I think so.

Research back on: Pottery in 7.

In foreign news, Krill founded & adopted Hinduism, and Babylon's Novice saw off comfortably (1.7) whichever animal threatened him.

I will try an hop in game to take a look around PC issues frown.

Brought my laptop home this weekend so I could at least communicate.

I havent seen the horses but cows horse sounds like a nice city. I will defer to you two worker optimization as I am bad at it smile

There was some discussion over putting hammers into barraks or warrior. If we are planning a horse city soon we will have chariots so the time of the warrior is coming to a close I would think barraks is a better choice.

Daniel's been having some trouble accessing the forums lately, and Broker can't access when at work so we've been discussing on email, but here's a dump for the record:

Emperor Capac,

A huge congratulations on settling Uberfish. We hope the city secured you some vital resources and/or territory.

You mentioned wanting to use the corn and pigs for seperate cities including one potentially 2 north of the corn. This is not an issue. We especially appreciate your second city not going in this direction as this allows the marble to build up some Kysit culture.

Bear coats you say? I mentioned this earlier to our defence generals and they were having none of it! According to them, the best military advice in such a situation would be to run. Maybe the Malinese warriors are made of sterner stuff? Well, except for the one exception...

Novice Lionsbane. He has been re-dubbed by Simba himself after his fifth lion slaying within recent times. He will, once he's tamed a lion cub to lick his wounds, head south in order to find our neighbours in that direction. We will keep you informed on what he finds.

One last point, we wondered if the mighty Malinese were considering building the Oracle? If so, we would be more than happy to lend you the marble as a gesture of good faith. We will no longer be persuing the religious technologies but if you feel this is an avenue you want to explore, i'm sure we could find some appropriate technologies to trade with you in the future.

Your Friends,

Kyan

Good news from Babylon. Seeing as Daniel is also having problems accessing the forums, I'll update via email then C&P into the thread to keep the lurkers up to date.

I'll play T39 now, and report back in a short while.

Turn played. Chop completed, and worker due in two. Keef moved NW, and Mick is still healing. Novice is down to 0.4 health, so he's clearly got into another fight. This means Mick can dash ahead of him, and explore further.

Don't think we can road the grass hill before the 2nd worker is done, so we should simply chop-mine the hill 1S of the centre tile.

PS: the turn should roll tonight, so feel free to play it if you have time!

We should build a road on the grass forest hill 1S of the capital. We move the first worker onto that tile the turn before the second worker finishes. On the turn the second worker finishes, we start the road with the first worker and put 1 turn into a road or a farm with the second worker. On the turn after the second worker finishes, the first worker will finish the road, and the second worker can move onto the tile and start the chop/mine. The turn after that the first worker can also chop/mine.

T40 played. Keef moved NW into the forest and found a wolf on the other side of the river. Assuming we get attacked and win, we should take Woody I promo right?

Worker moved to the forest hill. Otherwise nothing new, except for Novice getting his 2nd promo.

Proposed email to Babylon aka Kysit:

Dear Kyan,

Many thanks for your kind words.

Keef is not the kind of warrior to back down from a challenge (especially when he has no movement points left). He's even looking to accessorize his bear pelt with a wolfskin belt next turn.

Oracle is an attractive gambit for us, but we're not bending our civ solely to that goal. We appreciate your offer of marble to speed it along, but we feel that the wonder is likely to fall before we're in a position to make the trade.

How are you fixed for military resources? We have identified a viable horse city, but we seem to be without copper. This means we'll need to fit in IW at some point in the not too distant future. If you have copper but no horses, would you be interested in trading an axe for a chariot?

Best Wishes

Emperor Capac

T41 played: Keef defeated the wolf and can promote next turn. 2nd worker produced, and I renamed them Marianne & Jerry, and they are both roading this turn. Warrior will complete in 1, and I assume it will be used to cover our cities whilst Mick & Keef explore.

Kysit gave their warrior shock which was a bit of a ...err... shock as I thought they'd go with medic. They still have all EPs on us, so no contact for them. I'll send off the proposed email to Babylon.

Should we revolt to slavery when the warrior finishes next turn? I think that would mean we would grow to size 4 the same turn the chop/mine completes.

Either way, we'll have two turns of production while we grow to size 4. Shall we put those into a Barracks?

What are our worker plans when tho chop/mine finishes? The obvious plan to me is to use one to road towards the horse/cow city and one to chop the new forest between the rice and the sheep. I think we'll have Pottery by then though, so should we start a cottage? Or something else?

Revolting to slavery on T42 is fine by me.

I think we'd be better off putting a couple of turns into a warrior, as we'll want a granary (and possibly another worker) before a barracks, so we might end up losing hammers we put into a barracks. If we whip the settler, then we can divert the overflow into the granary, rather than the warrior.

I agree that one worker should be roading to city #3, and the other can either chop that forest, or cottage the grass river tile that Sirian & Uberfish share. I'd slightly favour the chop at this stage.

From what I recall, unit hammers start to decay after only 10 turns, but building hammers take 50 turns to start to decay. So it still might be better to go with a Barracks.

I thought it was 10 for both, but if it's 50 for buildings then maybe a barracks would be better. OTOH if Mick & Keef are exploring then we have one warrior for three cities, so we'll certainly need to squeeze in another warrior from Sirian after this settler.

Took a quick look around and like all your city spots so far. Need more scouting west though but we should be able to get a nice circle of 1 to 2 cities deep around our capital.

Kyan was in-game when I logged in, so we had a chat about a few things: they've met Byzantine (who are yet to meet anyone else) to their east, they got copper within Exodus borders (they wouldn't have if they had planted east of the pigs) but still no horses (but Byz has). They'll send Byz our way to meet up.

Moved Keef to meet Sury of England. Sent them a 'hello' in-game, but will pen a quick note to them tonight. The city is their capital, and has popped its 3rd ring. They're around a dozen tiles north from Sirian's centre tile, and 4 tiles to the east (I think). According to Kyan, Cyneheard's a good player. Let's hope he doesn't run us over with Redcoats!

Moved Mick south to reveal more FPs: this really does look like a Team Battleground script. I'd expect us to find another team more or less due west from us, and another to our northwest. As things stand, I'll move Keef back into the forest to heal, then head him northwest then southwest and thereafter due south. I think we'll need Mick to cover our settler, but I'll check the micro next turn. My plan is to road so we can move the settler into the forest 1E of the proposed site in one turn where a warrior (Mick or Brian) will provide cover.

I stopped Jerry's mining to be sure the chop doesn't go into the barracks, so it'll say due in three if you log in now, but it will be done next turn.

@ Daniel: sorry to hear that you have to give up PB1. Hope we'll still have you on our team for this game, but would understand if you want a break from CIV at the moment.

Cheers

RBP1 was a commitment of around an hour almost every single day, which was too much. The commitment here for RBP3 is significantly less, so I expect to stick around.

Screenshots of the new territory would be nice. smile I can access the RB site from work or by remoting into work from home, so feel free to post them in the thread.

I'll start to update the thread a bit more regularly from now on then wink

If I'm looking for feedback before ending turn, I'll send the update via email, otherwise I'll post in the thread.

Missed T43 which was lurking in my sent items...
Quote:A very good turn for us: Keef has spotted English borders, and we have desert copper in the same city as the horses. Screenshots attached.

Workers both mining (due in 3), and Brian is playing zone defence.

Here's the neighbourhood as revealed so far:

Additionally, we know from Babylon that there's a junglist (massive) pig 2 south of the corn.

England is located in the fog to the north and west.

Settling Plans for City 3: Horsey-Copper-Cow

T45 played: Barracks switched to Settler. Workers complete chop-mine. We have 33 hammers towards our settler (20 from chop, 13 from tiles worked minus food consumed). Uberfish will grow next turn so we can whip the warrior in an emergency, so I decided to move Brian down and to keep exploring with Mick. Keef moved into the forest to heal.

Our options for the settler are to whip for 2 pop on T47 and produce the settler on T48, or to chop a forest, producing the settler on T50.

I think that the trade of two pop for one forest to gain 2 turns advantage isn't that great, so I'd favour chopping. How about you guys?

Unless we can three tiles roaded (which will be tricky without risking being eaten), it will take two turns to get the settler to the forest (see below).

Here's a screenshot of the south with my proposed moves for Brian and Mick:

The moves for Mick are optional. If we choose to whip the settler, we may want to move him back to the northernmost desert hill for extra fogbusting.
