Not quite right Amelia. I knew of the backlashes of expanding too aggresively towards my opponent borders. The trap i did fall in was my wrong assumptions on how the map looked like.

This was as far i got eastwards, seeing none of Nyktorions land. I had a hard time finding valuable land to settle on (seeing there was nothing good to settle on close by) and assumed that the fertile land east of me had to be part of my natural expansions. The eastern mountain range also looked like some kind of border between the arid bannorlands and the lush elven woods, believing that Nyktorion had far more land to work on.
I was stuck on that mindset the whole game, thus my reactions towards Nyktorion.

So when i see what Nyktorion truly had i understand perfectly why he invaded me. It's far less than i imagined and would no doubt have done the same if i were in his shoes.

On the other hand, i think i might have expanded to those spots east anyway, even if i knew his location. Though then i would have eased up on Thoth and prepared myself for aggressive actions from east.

Looking at the mini-map of World builder land there posted by Mr. Yellow, I going to say that Mardoc's island in the south is going to be the deciding factor. If he gets free reign on settling it he should be in a paramount position to win. If he's challenged on it or attacked before he's reasonably set up there, it won't be enough.

Thoth Wrote:At this point, I don't know for certain that WK is trying to organise a dogpile against me....OTOH it's the logical thing for him to do. I'll have to see if that shot in the dark has any effect.

lol

I wonder what Nyk will think when he sees that message? If he's in a paranoid mode I bet it's something along the lines of: "Mardoc just sold us all up the river..."

Does anyone remember the turn order for this game?

I'd be interested to see if everyone geniounly contributes to the dogpile, or if some people hold back hoping to save their precious troops...

I can't think of a single dogpile that's worked around here, so I have no reason to believe this one will either.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Thoth is playing a very nice game. He had a nice starting position and some hut luck, but he has been doing everything right to capitalize on his advantages.

Of course, Orthus Axe (and the xp) was a deciding factor in the war, too, netting him a almost invincible unit. Nevertheless, he had the courage to attack and he manouvered pretty well.

Quote:(aside: if I can get to a point of really, truly, trusting someone, maybe it'd be worth going for the Impersonate Leader gambit? Sure kill on Thoth...)

Mardoc just posted this and i wondered if anyone knew the details behind what happens in PBEM if someone uses the impersonate leader gambit? Would Mardoc gain control of Thoth and his own nation become AI?

People have always banned it in these games, so no idea. I doubt that it even works in MP, like Hyborem's Whisper. Should be easy to test, though- start up a PBEM duel game scenario with yourself playing both human civs and one of them already starting with deception & Gibbon. See if you can use the spell, and what happens as a result. Then report back here :P

Regarding the current game situation, I'm surprised that WK is so fixated on attacking Thoth that he hasn't considered turning on Irgy. If he wants lots of defensible land he can easily take in a fight- Irgy has it. And Sheaim cities grant access to PZ, which WK surely can make nice use of. Even if a CoW forms that is somehow able to take Thoth down several pegs, Mardoc will still be better in several critical categories than WK. Nyk likely will be ahead of him as well, due to that island. The best option for him to me doesn't seem to be trying to break down the leaders, but rather gobble up the weakest civ in the game in order to secure a territory capable of securing a victory.

Result of test = Not allowed to use Impersonate Leader on Human Players

...

Oh well that eliminates one gambit from the PBEM games and makes Council of Esus even less of a lure as a worshiped religion.

Exact same feeling here. And even though Irgy's been behind a bit thus far, the longer they leave him alone, the greater a pain in the ass he becomes for everyone else. These dogpiles never work anyway.
