OMFG!! :faint: :burntheheretic:
STOP WHAT YOU ARE DOING! Download DF asap....you will loose...but that's most of the fun.
and while you are at it...sign up for the DF succession game in the Gaming Table forum. More newbs=more FUN.
We should get some RB Minecraft servers going too. Nothing like personally breaking into a massive cavern glistening with lava and iron ore and diamonds.

losing = FUN .
remember this....
I'd be willing to try and play the game, but I'm too occupied with other ones. Yes, I know... Shame on me...

Never tried Minecraft apart from some minutes in a friend's house. I think the concept is very nice, but it's not my kind of game. At least that was my impression.
Diplomacy with Dantski:
I'm trying to secure the RoK holy city, now that I have a cunning plan. Irgy and Dantski are my main rivals, since they are to ones already using the God King civic. So, I contacted them. Dantski answered quickly!
Ichabod to Dantski:
Hey Dantski,
It's been a while since we met, but we haven't spoke a lot... Heck, we almost haven't spoke at all!
So, how's the game going for you? Any dungeon popping luck? Any interesting events? I haven't had anything much interesting happening in my lands... No events, just one dungeon explored, which resulted in nasty barbarians. And my exploration is very bad too. My best explorer was the warrior near your scout, which was eaten by the same griffon that ate your scout, unfortunately... Luckily the other palyers are better explorers than I am, so the only player I haven't met is Jkaen.
I noticed you already have Mysticism. I won't deny that I'm very interested in getting the Runes of Kilmorph religion, being the Khazad and all. Do you plan to tech it? I'd very interested to get the holy city, so maybe we can make a no-competition kind of agreement regarding the holy city. We are open to a lot of suggestions regarding our side of the deal: NAP, free mana loan, religious spreading, no-competition agreement regarding a wonder/religion...
What do you think about it? I'm open to other suggestions too.
I'll keep this one short. If you have any other thing you'd want to discuss, just go ahead!
Kind Regards,
Ichabod
Dantski to Ichabod:
Hi Icha
Firstly good luck with FM game! I know I'm feeling slightly concerned about my turnset after what BS and TT have managed so far.
The game is still very much in the move 1-2 units and hit end turn phase for me. I've had totally neutral luck with dungeons so far, nothing particularly good or bad. Although this is mostly down to not finding too many of them. My scouting is somewhat decent considering my bad combat luck so far and like you I'm still hoping for contact with Jkaen now that my scout died. I'm actually surprised you haven't met him yet, isn't he your western neighbour?
Religion has certainly been a major topic I've spent time thinking about, I think its unlikely I'll be trying to get RoK anytime soon so as long as you don't dilly dally too long you'll be ok. I would be interested in a no competition agreement on anothet topic later on regarding something else but right now I'm keeping that to myself.
Have you had much contact with Irgy/Mardoc or Sciz? I know Sciz may be leaving the game soon but I'm still interested in any news or rumours.
-Dantski
Well, that seemed to work alright. I don't think he's trying to deceive me, albeit the fact that he didn't make any demands makes me a bit worried (if he's not after the religion, securing a mana deal, one of the things I suggested for instance, would be a win/win situation). I'll send him another message saying that I'm beelining it and I'll try to dig more information.
Nicolae Carpathia Wrote:Gasp. What kind of dwarf are you? Refusing to personally dig through rock and soil in search of gold and diamond!
As previously stated, I fail at dwarfhood... I don't even like to drink beer!!
Nah, i'm kidding... That would be going a bit too far!
Sorry for the lack of updates, guys, but the turn is being held again... Last turn I played was on Saturday... I think I'll try to suggest a Blitz session to get the interest going on again!
I'll keep this one short, since I don't have much time. Much of the subjects we are talking about can be delayed a bit (I don't think we'll have mana/adepts for the next couple of turns, for example), so I'll only adress the one that I find to be urgent.
I'd like to secure a non-competition pact regarding Runes of Kilmorph. I'd like to get the Holy City! You mentioned earth mana loan + free spreading as payment. I'll gladly accept both these conditions. There's only one problem: I can't spread the religion without open borders. And I'm not sure if I can get cartography in less than 20 turns... Maybe if I add a non-competition agreement regarding another wonder to make up for a delay on spreading the religion? I'd spread it as soon as I get cartography, which can be made into a priority (but 20 turns it's not enough time to get it without severely hampering my tech plan). Then we could get open borders too!
What do you think about it?
Ah, as a side note. Have you heard any comments from other players regarding the RoK religion? If you could share this kind of info with me, I'd be very happy. Especially regarding Dantski. Of course, I'll understand if you prefer to keep this sort of thing just to you guys.
Kind Regards,
Ichabod
Irgy/Mardoc to Ichabod:
Ichabod,
That seems like a perfectly reasonable caveat. Of course, it will be
in your interest to spread Kilmorph to us ASAP anyway, to power up
your shrine, so I think we can rely on your goodwill that it doesn't
take too too long for us to get our spread. Perhaps you'd be willing
to grant us a non-compete on the Bone Palace as the trade for a
delayed entrance of Kilmorph into the Kuriotate lands?
As it happens, we've heard nothing either way from people on Kilmorph,
but we haven't exactly been pushing hard for that knowledge, either,
what with our easy access to Prophet points. If we do hear, without
any confidentiality clauses, we'll pass it on - after all, an alliance
has to start somewhere.
- Mardoc (and Irgy)
Ichabod to Irgy/Mardoc:
Thanks guys!
I won't compete for the Bone Palace. Just a quick bit of info: I have been negotiating with the Elohim for a non-competition agreement regarding the RoK religion too. They don't seem to be very interested in it, but they revealed to me something which may prove useful to you. They said they'll ask for a non-compete agreement with us later in the game, but didn't reveal to me what is that they want yet. Maybe it has nothing to do with the Bone Palace, but since it's a pretty good wonder, I wouldn't doubt it.
If I get more information, I'll let you guys now!
Regards,
Ichabod
I don't think Mardoc and Irgy were interested in getting RoK in the first place. I bet they only used to try and get something out of the poor gold-loving dwarves. Well, better to be safe than sorry!
On the plus side, I've started to build a trust relationship with them and they'll be gunning for the Bone Palace instead of building a proper defense against the dwarven hordes. I am willing to research cartography too. I already explained why, but I'll talk about it again in the strategic planning post to come. Yeah, I know, it takes me a lot of time to write these promised posts, but I'm happy that I'm actually doing them. Ah, there's also the dwarven late-game plan to be explained!
Not much happening as usual. Turn 37 starts with a notice:
Of course, not about any kind of cool event, just something that I've already shown to you in one of my previous updates.
Here's something interesting:
Everybody is in God King except myself. I'm getting a very, very big discount bonus on the Mysticism tech, which is very nice. Going myst first is one of the basic openings of the FfH players here in realms beyond. It's a good tech, but not that much. God King is nice, but isn't that much of a boost when you are at 100% science (early game), since the % is only on gold, not commerce (it's different from bureaucracy). And since most production comes from food in the early game (for settlers and workers) the hammer bonus is not that good either (I mean, to get in such a rush).
Elder councils are good for philosophical civs to get a fast academy, but the science boost is meh. 40h (on quick) for +2 beakers, while helpful, isn't anything to get so happy about. Each financial cottage gives me the same science, but only takes 3 worker turns and gets better with time (it uses one food, though, and a pop point).
Speaking of cottages, here's my first one, completed at turn 38:
Six turns until a hamlet. I'm up to 17 gold on 100% gold. With the god king bonus and the fact that I got even more discount on the Mysticism tech, the countdown to 100 gold was lower by some turns .
End of Turn 38 finished my second worker, who will help building cottages. Capital will build warriors, work cottages and grow to size 5. Second city will build warriors and later a Pagan temple. Warriors are priority for now, because I need to get ready for Orthus!
This should help boost things for the dwarf empire.
Can we get a big update around turn 50 (When orthus appears)? I'd like to see the progression of the some of the other nations on the graphs. If the Lanun managed to find good coastal spots they should start getting big boosts soonish, yet they are still dead last in score.
Are Hippus the only one that beelined Agrarianism? That's interesting and hopefully a sign you were right and they arn't holding any plans for rushing a rival.
There are a lot of strange things going on (I'll upload the graphs later today so we can get a better discussion).
The hippus capital is still size 3 and they didn't get a second city yet. I already managed to get a settler and two workers out (since I'm avoiding the growth to size 5), so there's no explanation for their lack of growth. Ah, actually there is. I think they delayed getting a worker and weren't able to grow due to lack of a proper food surplus. There's also a pretty strange thing on Sciz graphics. A massive spike in the culture graphs. I initially thought it could be the harpy son event (which would make sense with their crippled capital), but the spike isn't that high.
The Lanun are already first in the GNP graph. Working 2 pirate coves certainly gives them the lead, but I'd bet they don't have two yet. Maybe a cove and 1/2 coastal tiles. Selrahc told me that all his land tiles are Ice or something like that. He's dead last in production and I don't think he'll be a significant factor in the game if he doesn't leave the coast (there's only coast near ice, it seems). He'll probably have the tech lead, but he won't have the production to make it an advantage.
I'm actually thinking about going agrarianism later. If I also adopt the arete civic, I'll have 5h mines, so i'll need the surplus. Haven't decided yet, though. But after my military tech plan, I'll probably head to sanitation (with a quick detour to hunting, most likely).
It's a classic dwarven synergy (Runes of Kilmorph gets you gold, Thanes for healing\instant city culture, production with Arete, Enchantment I with Bambur, Repair with Bambur). Construction is relatively cheap, so is Bronze Working for axemen + bronze weapons (should you be lucky enough to have copper nearby). In fact, I'd be tempted to say that this is an early-mid-game strategy rather than a truly mid-game one.
Are you also considering heading down to Medicine to pick up Arthendain as well for stack defense? You already mentioned heading to Sanitation longer term, so it's not too much of a detour.
Just about the only other thing I'd like to point out is that, is the teching going slow? With the second city being connected straight away (weird though it is - is it that river trade does not require Fishing; or maybe just internal river trade does not require it), you are already seeing a small profit to it, judging by the screenshot.
Finally, one other game mechanic thing - when the Khazad fire this worldspell, it does not destroy any improvements - so you may end up with a farmed plains hill. Now, this will lose 1F, trading it for 1H, I think, but it's not an automatic end of the world if this happens to your wheat farm, perhaps?
