FFH II PBEM VIII Lurker's Lurking Thread (For Lurkers) [SPOILERS]

Wonder if Mist tried talking to Krill?

I think when we've seen Hybie come in like this, players are too apt to treat him like the AI version. In these situations, he's just another player who can conceivably be bargained with.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

Eh. What's there to talk about? He obviously wants, needs your land, it's hard to think of a better offer one could make which isn't absurdly crippling. Also it's going to hurt if Mist gets Basium out, best for Krill to snuff the biggest anti-demon threat on the board ASAP. Although I don't know if Krill knows about that particular circumstance (I assume Ravus has informed him).

Also: Sareln trying to play Chessmaster is going to be interesting. He's never gotten the opportunity before! =)

I think it will be interesting to see how well Krill does with the infernals. I mean, he didn't spawn next to either of the three superpowers, but nearest to the 3 weaker civs.

This gives him the chance to grow/expand, and yet also leave potential opponents on the other side of the rainbow.

Also, does anyone else think Amelia's war stack will raze ONE city and then die a horrible death? I mean ... that stack has NO defensive units (other than left over Einherjars)

anyone think that will be enough?

Maybe he forgot he doesn't have Raging Seas in this game...

I mean, I guess I can see how if he uses Arcane Lacuna (and assuming he defends with his einherjar instead of using all on the attack) ... he would be forcing Mackoti to use real units (moroi and vamps) vs his Einherjars.

Still, its a numbers game and he is bound to lose that round (unless his einherjars get rly, rly lucky ... cause their life extends by 1 with each victory, he could theoretically amass an enherjar army BUT!! the einherjars just aren't strong enough AND he doesn't have enough support units for his stack to survive for very long)

Really, the only thing I can see this doing is benefit Ravus Sol.

by the way ... when SareLn said that Yellow spilled the beans to Ravus, does this mean Ravus knows that Makoti and Sareln have Open Borders?

(I mean, I guess he could just check the diplo screen though wink )

mmk, after looking at the Vampire stack ... methinks AV holy city is a goner.

Is that the same city which has prophecy of Ragnarok in it by-chance?

anyways, I have serious doubts that a dedicated AC rush has much hope of succeeding unless you get to 50 AC before tier 3 units start arriving.

Even then, its a lot of work for something that usually doesn't end up all that useful. (can be a lot of fun though, in the right circumstances)

I see how Ravus Sol would of liked to build the Messhaber of Dis ... that would have been awesome. In fact ... Im very sad (kinda) that I didn't (haven't ever) seen Messhaber of Dis appear in a PBEM game wink

Considering that Meshambler is something like 5,000 hammers and can only be built in a single, possibly hammer-poor city, I seriously doubt that you ever will tongue

it was however built in one glorious, oh so glorious, RP game some years back, in the spring of 2009.

I mean, it has been built in a few RP games since then, but that was where Messhaber led the Orcs and Demons to destroy the Angels and Vampires ...

ah good times smile (game was called after Order holy city was razed and Messhaber was still alive, with 0.1 health no less, but then next turn had full health and 5+ promotions :D )

Calabim player was still confident their Order Vamps and Paladins could have defeated us .... but I think it'd be pretty hard to kill Messhaber at that point, especially with non promoted vampires (due to RP nature, Order calabim was not allowed to feast) and only 3 str spectres vs the Goliath. (due to death immune).

rant about the game below
So I played a decent game as the Orcs, founded AV and got the prophecy going ... basically spammed goblins from Prophecy city and Diseased Corpses/Axemen from my Holy City w/ Shrine.

Still, I was a bottom tier civ relatively speaking, most people had forgotten me in my little corner of the world. That is, of course, until I sneak attacked the Ljosalphar, and managed to raze a major city of theirs. This razing increased the AC by what must have been 20 points ... and in the next few turns I razed another city or two and got the AC to 80+. The ljos still had a sizable army however, as did I, and reinforcements were finally coming to the Ljosalphar aid ... when 90AC hit and all hell broke loose.

Everyone lost their armies except for my Diseased Corpse brigade ... although I was only able to defend at the time.

AC was much lower, due to loss of prophecy units, but by then I had summoned Hyborem, and working together we popped the 100 AC.

Now, during this time, my holy city happend to be my second city iirc, and a pretty nice one. So I was able to get Messhaber of Dis in something like 17 turns or so (quick speed). (the best I got in SP as Orcish player was 7 turns on NORMAL SPEED btw wink ... that was the other day when I was testing for cultural victory)

while building the messhaber, giant army of good tried to kill the Avatar of Wrath, who had decided to make a former Ljosalphar city his permanent nesting grounds. However, with city defence (and not much collateral other than spectres on the side of the good) entire good army was destroyed. (no combat animations, stack attack ... you know how it goes on simul turn games wink ). So anyways, who knows what would have happend if they had actually attacked us instead of this barbarian hero ... probably not much but delay messhaber by 10 turns or so, and delay our invasion by even longer ... (and that might have led the game to be won by the other side, but on I go to continue my story)

After they did their suicide attack vs the now Sedentary Wrath, I sent a small scouting stack to Kuriotates last city. The Order holy city. After my retreat, and many turns of us (the evil guys) not doing much on the front lines ... the good guys got somewhat arrogant that we didn't have much plans, and they (correctly) assumed that eventually they would have enough units to kill us.

However ... that ALL changed when Messhaber of Dis was built. They suddenly had their OMFG radar on red alert, and Hyborem and I led a highly organized strike directly on the Order holy city, to wipe Kuriotates from the game.

Interesting aside, main reason Kuriotates were rather weak at this point was because A) their constant wars against strong Illian player (who remained neutral in the final wars I might add) and B) the horsemen played a toll on Kuriotates before they finally suicided against Illian fortified positions.

Illians may have remained neutral because they had lost one or two priests, and were probably planning to pick off the spoils after good and evil killed each other off. But then the game got called so ...

Messhaber fireballs may have been our only true source of collateral, and we may had Malevolent Designs have (stupidly) decided ArcaneLore/Scholarship was more important for Infernal super cities than Malevolent was for our army. -> Actually though, I didn't realize Hyborem's whisper did not work in MP so I was afraid Hyborem might betray me and steal one of my best cities. And since malevolent unlocked that spell, I tried to keep the tech on the down low.
IF I wasn't confident Messhaber would be enough, I would gone Malevolent first, even if it meant risking a backstab

As I was saying, we may have just 1 fireball per turn while they had 20 spectres per turn ... and Bless ... but we had MESSHABER!! :D

also, a funny note is that Wrath's Ira spawns could still reach Order holy city every few turns or so ... so we did get some assistance from those guys

So anyways, the final battle was upon us. We used Ritualists, Rust, and our 1 fireball to weaken their defences ... and then we used as many units as possible on the attack. Messhaber was weakend somewhat.

Meanwhile they attacked, and their retaliation almost cost Messhaber his life, and destroyed most of our army. Even so ... with only a few units left on either side ... we finally destroyed the city with what units hadn't moved yet, and LO MESSHABER WAS ALIVE TO STALK THE LANDS ONCE AGAIN!!!

at this point, I let all know that Meshabber was level 6, and since ppl were getting tired, the mercurian player was too overly cautious, and it was getting to be 2 vs 1 with Illians STILL refusing to pick a side ... we decided to call it a game, Victory on the side of the Veil.
