Turn 54
The sea beckons:
...As does Jowy's Scout. Maybe I'll kill him if he passes close by. This does seem to be the northern edge of our continent; it may be just us three here. Unless it extends far to the east and west, it's not especially large either.
Nothing else interesting happening...two more Barbs have shown up, one at Plague and one at Leprosy, but I doubt they'll be an issue. The barb from earlier attacked Plague and left our defender at 1.5 HP, but he'll be healed by the time the other assailant moseys over.

Turn 56
Two things to think about this turn:
Yaws was founded this turn; I could have done so a turn earlier, but the Barb onslaught meant the escorting Warrior was a turn behind.
We can also see that Mardoc has a fortifying Warrior on that hill. I hope he's not planning on founding there, but that spot isn't very far from his known borders; he's definitely closer to us than Jowy is. Still, Stonehenge means we'll have a culture advantage over him if he does found, and in ten turns that spot will be ineligible for him due to borders popping. I think I should prioritize settling the good spots to my west over the south or east, even if it does mean not having Horses for a while.
Plague grows to Size 5 and completes a Spearman next turn; I think I'll put it to work on a Settler, aided by a chop, which will hopefully overflow into a Library.

It's already ineligible; two tile limit for cities on the same landmass.

Oh yeah, there is that. Hope he doesn't mind then, but Yaws is really close to my capital and he wasn't denied a superb spot.

-Hinduism was founded this turn. Checking the event log it looks like Buddhism was founded some turns ago as well. Worth going for Judaism? Writing is 2T out and I have neither Poly or Meditation so maybe a run for CoL is better.
-Cholera got a chop and will overflow into a worker. Plague is about to grow to Size 6, but only has 5 good tiles to work so I'll whip a Settler before that happens. Next city will be the the spot due west of Plague.
-It's hotter than the hinges of hell where I'm living. 34 degrees C, jfc. Will write more substantially when I can think better. Sorry for not reporting CH

Sorry for not reporting CH COL is probably better, but we need Priesthood for it, so we'll be able to take stock of that later. Then again, Currency is a priority as always (the trade route at Writing is SMEG-only, right?), so maybe we'll head there from Currency--has Oracle fallen yet?
Is it better to whip before or after the city grows to an "undesirable" size, assuming it has a Granary? I'm not sure, and don't want to think hard when I should be sleeping
It's hot here too; it feels like 90 degrees F (~30 C), and it's not supposed to be this hot in Minnesota

Oracle hasn't fallen yet, no. And Writing does not give a free trade route in RtR. We should head for Currency quickly, then double back for Priesthood to unlock CoL. Maybe tech Monotheism if it's still there. Sailing at some point would be nice to build Lighthouses in Yaws and the new west city.
Now that you've mentioned it, I think when a city has a Granary it is best to whip when it's about to grow, which is what I'm doing next turn. Putting the whip into a Settler may delay the Library, but IMO it's important to establish a presence west. Alternatively I could put the whip into a Worker in Plague and set Cholera on building the Settler; would let PLague start on a Library sooner and give time to road towards the new city spot.
Yeah, yesterday was record highs for Ontario, in some places it felt like 42C. It won't get much better until the weekend apparently. People who live in the southern US must be out of their minds.

Turn 60:
Our most recent city; a Worker/Spear pair are on the Sheep tile pasturing it.
This city's pasture just finished; next target is either the Copper (for hammers) or the grassland Deer, which both Leprosy and Yaws could grow on.
Growing on a Work Boat. Next turn I will whip it and put the overflow into the Settler.
Plague will build a second Worker after this one, at which point one of the unhappiness from whipping will be gone. Thereafter I plan to build a Library.
Science is at 50%, the minimum it can get while still 1-Turning Archery. Plan is to run 0% science until Plague's Library completes, then run 100% to make use of the multipliers. Good idea? I don't anticipate needing any new techs for a few turns.
If there's anything else you want pictures of, let me know.

In general, you should always be running 0% or 100% science because rounding means you'll lose one beaker per turn (before you have Libraries you can see this in the Finance screen)--obviously that's a lot more important in the early game. Obviously things like Libraries are other reasons to do so, but it's a rule of thumb regardless.
Have we met anyone new? How are Jowy/Mardoc doing in city count? How far away are they from our borders?
Is that Work Boat for scouting, or is it netting something?
Is the settler you're overflowing into for Spot 3 (the western city; our 5th city) or is that settler on its way already? An overview shot would help with these kinds of questions (and should probably be standard with every report ).

I'd always thought that the game tracked partial beakers. Guess not...
Mardoc has 5 cities and Jowy has 3(!). Mardoc also whipped something this turn. Haven't met anybody else yet. Border situation is like so:
The Work Boat is for scouting mainly; eventually it could net one of Spot 7 (the northwest 2-Fish spot)'s seafood. It helps that it was cheap enough that I can overflow a whip with it.
Plague's two new Workers will be roading the way to the new city, which will indeed be Spot 3. One of them will stay behind to hook up Pigs and chop, and the other will go back to Plague to cottage some tiles:
With all of the hills, riverside grassland and Silver mine, Plague would benefit greatly from Bureaucracy. Once its Library completes it'll take over the cottage that Cholera's working right now.
Meanwhile I should have 1-2 more Workers produced to help get Yaws and Leprosy up and running; we'll need lots of Workers to help road over hills, chop forests and improve resources for our new cities. I don't mind too much being behind Mardoc in city count, since our fifth city will be well supported from the moment it's founded.
