The specific issue I have with vassalization is that you can use it to teleport an opposing army out of your territory. It turns out that Dler declared war on me before Exploit vassalized to him, so that didn't happen in this case like I thought it did.

There's been a lot of action over the past few turns. Sorry I don't have the time to post it in a better format, but here is the turnlog:

T191:/1310: Dler declares war on me! Then Exploit vassalizes to him. Fortunately they do it in that order, which means that my units outside Imho's revenge aren't teleported out. Machine Gun finished in Sullla, start Cannon. Machine Gun finished in Naya, start Worker. Barracks finished in Oh Deer!, start Confucian temple. Courthouse finished in LeaveItToBeaver, start Library. I attack Imho's revenge.
1 cannon dies, 1 retreats (16.6% odds), 1 retreats (17.4% odds), 1 dies (46% odds), 1 dies (49%), 1 retreats (53.7%), 1 dies (56.5%), 1 dies (58.8%). Total 3 retreats and 5 dead.
I lose:

I get a great general (Ivan the Terrible). The city is captured, and a Granary, Mint, Market, Grocer, and Courthouse survive. I draft Oh Deer!, Wolf 359, and ChironBetaPrime.

T192/1320: Border Town (3NW of Imho's Revenge) is defended by a single musket. I attack it with a Cavalry, which despite 98%+ odds ends up at 0.3/15 health. I reinforce with 3 other Cavalry in case Exploit has a few more troops in the area. Angband comes out of resistance and starts building a Courthouse. Dler may be attacking me with 11+ Cannons (thanks to Broker's espionage-based recon), so I send 2 machine guns from the northeastern front back towards ChironBetaPrime. In total I should have 6 or more Machine Guns by the time he can attack, so the Cannons won't be much of an issue. I attach the Great General I got to the Warrior Bob, make him a Medic III, and upgrade him to a Machine Gun. Draft Wolf 359, Winterfell. Isengard, Sullla, and Albuquerque are up for drafting, but they are near their happy cap so I don't do it. Switch ChironBetaPrime, Esper, and Bant to build research so Physics will finish this turn. Whip Lighthouse in Winterfell.

T193/1330: Finish Physics, get Great Scientist. Start Artillery. Uranium discovered near Bant. Naya celebrates "We love the Monarch!". Broker gets a great prophet. Machine gun finished in Isengard, start Airship (due in 1t). Cannon finished in Albuquerque, start Worker. Worker finished in Naya, start Worker. Lighthouse finished in Winterfell, start Library. Barracks finished in Lothering, start Airship. Granary finished in Thangorodrim, start Barracks. Cavalry scouts out Iron Fish and it has no defenders. Whip Courthouse (for 3 pop) in Angband. Switch Timbuktu to Courthouse to whip next turn after it grows to size 8. Draft Wolf 359, Strong Badia, Root Canal, Bant, Lothering. Give Physics to Rego, Lins, Shadyforce, and Broker.

T194/1340: Naya celebrates we love the Monarch. Dler's stack advances to the tile next to ChironBetaPrime, and Pillages a hamlet. Cannon finished in Sullla, start Airship. Airship finished in Isengard, start another Airship. Confucian Missionary finished in Root Canal, start another. Courthouse finished in Angband, start Granary. Airship attacks Dler's stack and deals 17% damage to Sun Tzu (Rifle GG). Timbuktu has grown to size 8 and is now unhappy (war weariness, fighting same faith). I whip a Courthouse there for 4 population. That should solve the happiness problems for a while. smile I take the undefended city of Iron Fish with a Cavalry. Western Nexus has 2 Rifles, 2 Muskets, 2 Catapults, a Chariot, and an Archer defending it. I bombard the defenses with two Cannons, upgrade a Cannon to City Raider II and attack (at 82.8% odds, and lose). I take the city with no further losses, however. It comes with a Granary, Mint, Market, and Courthouse. Great Scientist loaded onto Caravels and sent west towards Broker to trade for Great Prophet. Draft Zendikar, Wolf 359. Revolt to State Property.

T195/1350: Get Corporation and Assembly Line from Broker. Out of anarchy, and only at -286 gold/turn instead of -400. Dler moves his stack onto the hill south of CBP. Broker says he's 1t -41 gpt at 100% gold with only 12 gold left, so hopefully his troops will start to disappear automatically. smile Exploit has upgraded some of his defenders to Infantry (particularly at Zulu Checkpoint). Spread Confucianism in Denerim. I decide to attack the stack south of ChironBetaPrime. I send in 4 Cannons which die, then 2 Rifles die, then I win 15 battles in a row with Riflemen, killing 2 Riflemen, 10 Cannons, 2 Muskets, and a Cataphract. I also get another Great General in the process. Draft (Infantry) in Naya, Root Canal, Esper. Infantry attacks Dler's stack and kills another Cataphract. I also switch Sullla to build a Factory (I selected an airship last turn but no production went in to it due to the anarchy).

T196/1360: Give Physics to Elkad. One of my spies in Exploit's lands is caught. Courthouse finished in Timbuktu, resume Library. Worker finished in Albuquerque, start Worker. Granary finished in Angband, start Levee. Dler's stack retreats to the forest 2S of ChironBetaPrime. Attack with airship, then attack with units from CBP. Lose 3 Rifles, destroy 2 Rifles, 3 Muskets, a Cataphract, and a Cannon. Utumno and Imho's Revenge both come out of resistance. Utumno is at size 12 and can't feed itself until the border pops, but a courthouse will be whipped there next turn. Imho's revenge starts a barracks. Draft Wolf 359.

T197/1370: Airship finished in Isengard, start Airship. Worker finished in Albuquerque, start Cannon. Worker finished in Naya, start Worker. Draft Albuquerque. Fire one Scientist at Esper, since GPP is at 297/300. Whip Courthouse in Utumno. Dler moves his Cataphracts SW, threatening Oh Deer! (which is undefended). It looks like I won't have quite enough units to kill them this turn. But I can build a railroad on a roaded hill and my Machine guns will be able to move 1S of the hill, blocking him from attacking Oh Deer! this turn. Take Zulu Checkpoint from Exploit, which is defended by 2 Infantry, at the cost of 1 Rifle and 1 Cannon. City comes with a Granary and a Mint. I attack Dler's units, and am able to wipe out the Cataphracts threatening Oh Deer!, losing only one Rifleman on my side. He lost 2 Riflemen (one of them a GG), a War Elephant, and 8 Cataphracts (one of them a Medic III GG). He has two wounded Rifles and an Archer still on the forest, which I will probably be able to mop up next turn. I move 6 of my Machine Guns onto the hill 1S2E of CBP, which is where more units of his would be likely to enter my territory.

I'd love to take a look in-game for you but my computer craps out after ~10 minutes of industrial-age civ so I don't think it's a good idea. Had to resign from Epic26. banghead

If your turnlog is written down as you play, maybe you could post it turn by turn here? Makes your thread more up to date and easier to read as well.

I had to play turn 198 twice due to Dler's issue with my "double move"... grrr. The second time through I ended up losing a Rifle at 66% odds, where the first time I had been able to wipe out his 3 units without any losses. Oh well.

T198/1380: Rego has finished Combustion and offers it to me. Great scientist born in Esper. Another of my spies is discovered in Exploit's territory. Airship finished in Isengard, start Airship. Observatory finished in CBP, start Bank. Confucian Missionary finished in Root Canal, start another. Barracks finished in Thangorodrim, start Library. Courthouse finished in Utumno, start Factory. Draft Wolf 359, Jund. Destroy the final 2 Rifleman and 1 Archer left on the forest 2S of CBP. The first time I did this I didn't lose any troops, but because of the "double-move" issue we reloaded and I ended up losing one Rifleman. 246 EPs on Exploit, +27/turn, need 273 to see demographics.

T199/1390: Factory finished in Sullla, start Coal Plant. Airship finished in Isengard, start Cannon. Machine Gun finished in Strong Badia, start Cannon. Machine Gun finished in Zendikar, start Cannon. Worker finished in Naya, start Worker. Library finished in Timbuktu, start Taoist Missionary. Great Scientist builds Academy in ChironBetaPrime. Spread Confucianism in Thangorodrim. Attack Nice Ninjas, which has 5 Infantry and 1 Musket on defense. I capture the city, losing 2 Cannons and 4 Rifles. The city comes with a Granary, a Mint, a Courthouse, and 108 gold. Whip Granary in Border Town. Draft LeaveItToBeaver and Denerim. Iron Fish comes out of resistance and starts work on a Mint. Western Nexus comes out of resistance and starts work on a Barracks. I bomb Cream of Tarter with Airships, and advance a few troops, but Broker wants to take it (along with the rest of Dler's territory) for himself. It's pretty fair to want this since I've been taking a bunch of Exploit's cities, so I'll probably end up just getting Upper BetaPrime out of Dler's territory.

T200/1400: Airship finished in Lothering, start Mint. Barracks finished in Imho's Revenge, start Airship. Granary finished in Border town, start Theatre (to compete with the culture from Shady's city (The Supermarket)). Confucian Temple finished in Bant, start Settler. Draft Timbuktu, then whip Taoist Missionary there. Draft Thangorodrim. Draft Angband. Draft Wolf 359. Switch LeaveItToBeaver to Confucian Temple. Need 281 EPs to see Exploit's demographics (have 283). Dreylin gives me Military Science, and I use the Great General I have at Isengard to build a Military Academy. Attack Upper BetaPrime with 4 Airships. I still don't have great odds to attack, and since I'm going to let Broker have all the rest of Dler's cities, I decide to wait for better odds to attack.

T201/1410: Cannon finished in Isengard, start Cavalry. Confucian Missionary finished in Root Canal, start Confucian Missionary. Taoist Missionary finished in Timbuktu, start Taoist Missionary. Library finished in Thangorodrim, start Confucian Temple. Worker finished in Naya, start Confucian Temple. Cannon finished in Albuquerque, start Worker. Confucian Temple finished in Oh Deer!, start Worker.Build a railroad so that Cannon just built at Isengard can get to tile next to Upper BetaPrime and bombard defenses from 40% down to 20%. I'll bombard it down to 0% next turn and attack. On Exploit's front, the city of Manic Mondays has three Infantry and a Quechua on defense against my stack of 27 rifles, 3 Cannons, and 2 Cavalry which can attack this turn. I upgrade the three Cannons to Accuracy and bombard city defenses down to 0% (from 60%). Then an airship attacks. A Cavalry attacks at 67% odds and wins. A second Cavalry attacks at 64% odds and wins. Then two Riflemen die at 38% and 65% odds, but after that I have 99% odds with my Woody III great general, so I attack with him for the XP. Another Rifle takes the last Quechua, and the city gives me 133 gold, and comes with a Lighthouse, a Mint, and a Bank. Draft Oh Deer!, Winterfell.

What do you think of Exploit's offer, from an in-game perspective? Does it matter to you if you get those cities? Negotiate a deal with rego or someone else?

Personally, I'd play it out to the bitter end, but I can't blame him for surrendering with just a few gassed cities left.

I apologize that it wasn't possible to get with any of you guys to discuss things - he made it seem like it was something that had to be decided then and there (again, I hadn't seen his post by the time that I made my decision), and so I felt like the positives outweighed any negatives.

I'll let you guys make the final say on who gets what - here would be my first guess on things.

League of Lin - HH, GG, BB and Machu Pichu

I know that Munro didn't provide any troops but he did provide us valuable intel from the inside. Still, I'd be okay if you guys wanted to offer up an alternative. Similarly Brian - I couldn't tell where exactly your and Daniel's border was lining up so if you think you should get some of those that's fine with me, or maybe he gives you something like Border Town or Iron Fish to make up fo rit - I'll let you guys decide that. Also sunrise if you want any of those cities on your side let me know.

Again, I apologize that I didn't get a chance to consult anyone before just making this move. Hopefully we can manage to make it work out for everyone. I'd like to make the gifts next turn (T203) if possible. I can't do it this turn as I'm about to go to bed.

Looks like if I had logged in first I would have gotten the same offer from Exploit:
