Part of me really wants to go with the TW and Pottery right after AH but I don't think that would be best and Ilios already voted for the opposite of that! I'm more concerned about the worker turns. If we got mining then BW, what would be the soonest we could whip/chop out a settler? we'd need a warrior to defend and the settler. I think we need to focus on one goal and go after it. I'm curious which plan would get us a settler and warrior the fastest?
So option 4 is best for getting out a second city asap and putting it near bronze (hopefully!) which may be a good idea with the Emperor level barbs.
Putting TW and Pottery ahead in priority seems to focus on getting cottages going sooner and while that sounds good, I don't think that's the most essential first move. The real question is if getting AH before Mining-BW will speed up the settler or not. If it does, I'm for that. If it doesn't, I'm for going straight to BW.
EDIT: Triple posted...

Woohoo Dazed is on fire!
Meatbalz, I don't know if you took the 20% discount BW gets asa Mining is researched into acount. So that would be 90 beakers for Mining, and then (216 - (21,6x2)) = 173 beakers for Bronze Working

I can't say I'm extremely happy with it, because it still leaves ten turns before we finish BW. I'll post something detailed going BW straight after Agriculture later on.

ok guys given all the debate (read: on my behalf) + the fact we SHOULD damn be able to put together a good micro plan with all the time we have i've finally had a serious look + understood the tech mechanics
http://www.civfanatics.com/civ4/strategy...search.php
what it means is, for example, for AH we know both optional techs, which gives us a 40% bonus to beakers applied to the tech. the base beakers are (whatever your total beakers are + 1)
say we're pulling 10 beakers/turn. for AH our beakers applied to it per turn once we get Ag would be (10+1) * (1.4) = 15/turn, so AH would take 12 turns
mining would be full cost but BW as ilios pointed out would only take 17 turns at 10 raw beakers output.

New turn is up!
Where do we move Hernan? It would seem there are no forests west where we can end the turn. Do I move NW and then we see if we stay put or move again?

we'll have a tough decision to make... moving NW *looks* like it'll leave him in the open

More sparkly stuff... 8)
I would prefer to let the scout stay here, and then next turn we can go SW NW on the forest. Scout on flatland + Barb Animal = dead scout (remember, no bonus against barbs on Emperor). I haven't ended the turn yet, up to you guys!
With all this land, I think barbs will become a big issue. Let's hope we find copper/horses.

i was, like ilios, leaning towards playing it safe. so i ended turn. i then moved 1 SW looking to end up on the forest tile. what do we do with the scout? moving to the forest would see us only get 1 move next turn. i'm fine with it, what do you guys want to do?
that's a strong city site 2 N of our scout, gold-sheep-FP + what looks like plenty of hills. i fervently hope we have a similar site in our vicinity. the spot is 10 tiles from our capital. 4047 land tiles / 17 civs = 238 tiles each, or a little larger than a 15x15 square.
