[Spoilers] Boldly Going Nowhere and Mr. Cairo go to Florida. Hilarity Ensues.

OK, played the turn, let's go into some more detail on the cities. I did end up swapping to Caste by the way. In retrospect I could have done it at the beginning of the GA, but at the time, security was more important than a few extra hammers.

Here I'm going all in on a commerce cap. Cottaging every tile in sight and giving the Crabs back so it can grow quickly. I'm building the Buddhist missionary because there wasn't much else to do, I only got a Hindu missionary to it this turn. I'll spread Buddhism to one of the other three potentially Legendary culture cities. After the missionary it's just going to slowly build a Hindu monastery and temple. If the next Great Person is a scientist (which it's most likely to be), I think putting an Academy in here is certainly worthwhile.

Top hammer city, building the Sistine Chapel. Afterwards I'll probably build the HE and start making Knights. Got enough of a food surplus to grow onto those mines. I might though work coast tiles with the new citizens to speed up that growth, and then swap to the mines when it hits size 12.

Moai City. Doesn't really have the food to work all of its tiles, but it can grow 2 more pop and work another cottage and a plains workshop. After the Forge will either build units or an Odeon to try grab more coast tiles off of JR4.

Border city with DZ, doesn't really have many tiles to work unfortunately. He's started to increase in power lately, I've seen HAs and Maces. If he keeps it up I'll put some more Longbows in here. Otherwise, just building Hindu Missionaries to finish spreading it to every city in the Empire.

This sad sack of a city is suffering because I took its food away to let more important cities grow. I'll windmill that hill and then it can just grow onto coasts and slowly build catapults or something.

Border city with JR4. No real hammer potential, just those two mines. But lots of riverside grassland for cottages. The Odeon will help in claiming a few more of its BFC.

This city I'm ok with putting a Forge into. It has enough food to grow one more pop onto that plains hill mine. I was building a Stable so I could promote a Chariot to Sentry, but then I got Guilds ahead of originally scheduled and can't build a Chariot. So that can be left until after the Forge.

I'll put a Forge here once I can get Hinduism in the city for the OR bonus. In the meantime it'll just grow onto those mines and build units.

This city I stagnated during the GA to work good tiles and build some useful buildings (finished a Market and built a Courthouse). Next turn I'll swap the plains hill mine and ivory for those two grassland cottages. Which will be farms soon thanks for wetbandit. Turns out I don't need Civil Service for those farms to spread irrigation to me. With those farms and windmills on the hills it can grow to work every tile there. I think? Maybe not, maybe those plains tiles will have to be cottages. I'll do the math next turn.

The Holy City, also the Great Library city, and National Epic city. Building the ToA here because it's relatively quick and provides a decent amount of GPP. Losing it wouldn't be too heartbreaking either for the failgold. It has enough food to work all those grassland tiles with workshops on them, and eventually, I'll be able to spread irrigation up there, replace two of them with farms and work them plus workshops on the plains tiles. Also has enough food to run some specialists if so desired.

Here is JR4's Knight stack:

It hasn't moved much lately, but since I did just swap out of Slavery I moved our stack of Wellies and Cats a bit closer to him. With wetbandit making peace with Elkad, and Elkad still putting up a tough fight against Cornflakes, I don't foresee a major dogpile on wetbandit soon, despite JR4 mirroring out Iron-Iron message. Which is unfortunate. But not that unfortunate, since I think the status quo favours us atm.

Graphs:

Here is our current advantage, I think with the Courthouses built during the GA, we should be able to stay on top in GNP afterwards.

Here is where Cornflakes is ahead, thanks to his cheap Forges. He's way ahead on power too, so despite not having it easy against Elkad, I think he'll be able to continue to put pressure on wetbandit and might even be able to hurt him a bit. He already forced him to stop his attack on Elkad.

We're still respectable in power, but flatlining a bit. Hopefully I can start making some more units and resume that steady upward line that'll keep anyone from thinking we're an easy target. The power difference between Cornflakes and Elkad isn't being reflected in actual results, according to Civstats, which to me implies Cornflakes is focusing on his war with wetbandit more than with Elkad. Which is great.

Overall, the GA has been a success, getting important techs and buildings and setting our cities for growth.

Got any suggestions BGN?

Oh, and I did use the last of that list of names, which leaves only one city left with a Greek name.

Got another Iron-Iron message from Cornflakes, who's still at war with wetbandit and is about to finish off Elkad. Now that he's accepted my OB offer (even if I had to bribe him with my spare Whales), I sent it back.

It looks like he's committed against wetbandit (or playing me for a fool), so I'm going to up the military development. I got a Great Scientist this turn, and I'm going to use them with the Music GA for a GA in ~ 5 or 6 turns. I'll swap to Theocracy as well and churn out units. Knights, Maces, Trebs, Xbows. Etc. I feel comfortable enough with my GPP in the GP farm that I don't feel it's necessary to use the GA to get more Great People, with Pacifism or something like that. And wetbandit is out main rival right now, so taking him out and nabbing a few nice cities in the process seems like a good idea. Especially if Cornflakes hits first.

This is why pauses need to be requested. If both DZ and wetbandit are trying to camp the end of the turn timer, I'll be pissed.

Well, Cornflakes is serious, he whipped a lot this turn, and I expect that it's all military. He has a massive army on wetbandit's border where I have a scouting chariot. Here's the military adviser for him:

A whole lot of Knights and a whole lot of Collateral.

I have no idea what wetbandit has waiting for him, but here's my current #2 military:

Less Knights and collateral, and a lot more ancient trash. But considering I had 0 Knights 5 turns ago, not bad.

And finally, now #3 military: JR4:

Mostly just Knights, not as much collateral. I don't think he'll attack me when I hit wetbandit: my military has been increasing rapidly and he can see it with a Chariot, but his own military has been pretty static:

Increasing at roughly the same rate as before, even slowing down a bit at the end there.
In any case, I'm reinforcing the border city with JR4 and I'm going to leave some WEs and Cats behind, just to keep him from getting any funny ideas.

On to my plan for the attack:

I'll start by going for Napork (I'll have a sentry Knight look into it from that desert hill next turn). Ideally this'll be after Cornflakes attacks so wetbandit has pulled units back.
I'll then go after the city on the plains hill marked {city}, and then I'll have to decide if I want to go after the cities I'm assuming are on that coast there. But that;ll be as far as I go against wetbandit, after that, it's straight into DZ, who's really checked out of this game, so hopefully wont put up much of a fight. That'll leave Cornflakes to fight wetbandit, and possibly end up splitting what's left with JR4 if he joins in when their current peace treaty is up.

Also of note, Superdeath is building Knights, and if I know him, he's going to want to get revenge on JR4 for their earlier attack. And he's not one to get scared by a power graph. Well, I hope so anyway.

I got Paper last turn, so I can see everyone's techs:

I'll go over what's noteworthy by player:
Superdeath: lacks Civil Service, but could be going after Gunpowder for his Musketeers.
Wetbandit: Has Education, but went for Printing Press over Liberalism, and unless he gets Lib soon, he might end up too busy.
Cornflakes: Pretty far behind, but he has a lot more cities than anyone else, but as long as he's so devoted to war, he wont be catching up any time soon. No Engineering, which has got to be tough with such a large empire, and no Pikes to defend his stack when it invades. Better hope that wetbandit doesn't have a lot of Knights of his own.
JR4: Missing some older techs, like Alphabet, but he did get Philosophy quite some time ago, so perhaps he's going for Nationalism and the Taj? I haven't been watching civstats enough to see if he's gotten any techs lately, so who knows.
Donovan Zoi: Has Guilds for Knights, and Engineering for Pikemen and Trebs, so it's not as though I'm going to be more advanced than him when I invade, it'll be more of a numbers difference.

I should have moved my stack closer last turn. Cornflakes has gone in:

But my stack is too far away to move into wetbandit's territory this turn, I could have moved the 2-movers only, and unless wetbandit has a horde of Pikes nearby, probably would have taken Napork the next turn:

But in the end, I decided to play it safe. I'll invade next turn, hopefully after I've had a chance to see WB's reaction to CF's invasion.

I don't know about this attack from Cornflakes though, advancing onto flat ground like that. Does he know what wetbandit has? A bunch of collateral and then some other stuff can do a lot of damage. A bunch of Knights that at the very least can get some coin tosses and flank all those Cats and Trebs. This is why it's useful to have a few Chariots laying around, to send forward and scout without having to risk a more valuable unit like a Knight. One on that hill NW of CF's army would be useful.

Well, it'll be bloody, no doubt about it, and if Cornflakes gets completely crushed I can always just send my army at DZ.

wetbandit is getting Liberalism next turn, so that's really out the window. I'm still going for Education, Unis and Oxford will come in handy if this game goes the distance, which it seems like it will. Which is why I'm probably going back to OR next turn. I just have to decide if Bureaucracy is going to remain worth it after the GA.

Well, DZ has joined the fun, but Cornflakes might be in trouble:

2 GGs for WB, none for CF (and one for DZ). Wetbandit didn't get Liberalism last turn, I suppose he's saving it in order to get a different free tech? I'm saving cash in case I need to upgrade some Spears to Pikes.
JR4 got Taj, and swapped into pretty peaceable civics, again, I don't think I have to worry about an attack from that direction, but I stil moved some Cats and WEs up there just so as to not tempt fate.

After thinking about it some, I decided to move in anyway, I can at the very least burn a city, maybe take and keep one, then roll over DZ now that he's conveniently moved most of his army nearer to my stack and (presumably) injured it attacking wetbandit.

Here's the situation I discovered:

If wetbandit can promote and heal those Knights, I think Cornflakes might be finished, but with all of CF's whipping I expect more and more Knights and stuff to come streaming in towards here so I guess wetbandit wont be able to send all those Knights my way soon. He also doesn't have much collateral that I can see, one Cat that I expect was just built, and unlike Cornflakes, I have Pikes.

Unfortunately, I'm probably going to lose that Chariot, so I wont be able to see how the battle there goes down, but I should know based GG generation. If Cornflakes gets none, then his stack was probably wiped.

In that case I'll just burn Napork, move to take Nap-poppie, then offer peace and attack DZ. Ideally, by that time, JR4 will have joined in and attacked wetbandit. Giving me to opportunity to absorb DZ in "peace".

Well, this is getting interesting. In what I hope is true Florida Man style I jumped into a second war before finishing the first.

I took Napork (cost 2 Knights, there was a Pike and a Spear in the city), and then sent a scouting Knight to have a look around, since it was DZ who took Nap-poppie:

There's also 2 HAs and 2 Pikes in Zeijing.

I decided this was too good of an opportunity to pass up; it's possible that DZ wont let me have a chance like this again. So I went for it, I took the city, losing 1 Treb in the process. I used my Sword, Maces, and Phalanxes to kill the defenders.

I then moved three Longbows, 2 Pikes, and some more Phalanxes into the city to protect it. DZ could possibly take it back with those catapults, but then I would be able to retake it again with my Knights, the bulk of which I left on that hill. I'm way ahead of DZ on power, and got in a decent first strike, I can afford to trade units now.

My main concern is wetbandit using his Knights to attack Napork or the stack of units that killed the defenders of Nap-poppie. I sent him a peace treaty, I would like to have that flank secured, and I'm hoping that he's reserving most of his pique for cornflakes. On that front it looks like wetbandit retreated out of the city Cornflakes was besieging, who took it seemingly with no casualties. But since he moved them all, they should still be pretty injured, and hopefully he accepts the peace offer.

Maybe I've bitten off more than I can chew, but what the hell, at least it isn't boring.

Well, no peace with wetbandit, but no attack either. DZ hit the city with one cat, then appeared to give up and retreated. I'm going to move forward next turn, or the turn after. Probably the turn after to let more collateral arrive. I need to be careful though, I can't leave either city too easily retaken by wetbandit, unless he accepts peace this time. He should, JR4 is going to invade either this turn or next (I didn't check when their treaty runs out). That would leave only SD at peace, which surely wont last very long.

i'm moving further into DZ-land. I'm still weary about wetbandit using his Knights to retake one or both of those cities, so I'm having to leave enough units behind to make it too costly (I hope). I also sent him another peace offer, this time with a bit of a bribe of 250 gold attached. Idk if he cares about that, but at least it shows that I'm willing to buy peace. Having that flank secure will let me really put the pressure on DZ.

I don't know where Cornflakes' stack is, and if he's advancing on wetbandits cap, and I don't know what's going on with JR4, I think he's getting ready to invade, but it's been a few turns of "getting ready", so who knows.

I'll take screenshots next turn.

So I had my Great Scientist selected while I was looking around and sent it into the middle of DZ's territory. I even went and moved some units in to cover it (leaving a city vulnerable to attack) before I realized I could ask for a reload. Is that sufficient grounds? It's really messed up my plans and it isn't as though I used it for something and then changed my mind about what I wanted to use it for.
