Hello and well met!
Our respective explorers have finally been able to meet each other, thanks to our friends the Indians (AKA bad music). Our little adventure has at least confirmed that the world is round, and is about 64 stadia (i.e. tiles) wide. You fine nation is the 6th we've met so far: Hyboreans (né Ottomans), Morpork (né Egypt), DJ Civ (né India), France and England.
As you seem to be included in Krill's ongoing "cunning plan", I can already tell you that we, Ottoman, and ofcourse India have already joined the little get-together. We are trying to meet up Carthage to have them align as well. England we've met recently. France, it suffices to say, have been most rude to us. Due to our somewhat odious encounter, you can understand they are currently persona non grata. (let's say they have difficulties making friends).
Have you met other nations not mentioned yet?
Hoping to hear from you soon,
Highest regards,
Ilios for the Principality of DIM (né HRE )
Quote:Greetings Principality of DIM,
If you ever fancy a nice Saturday afternoon playing or watching cricket, drop on over. We have a very nice ground with a superb members stand (including the obligatory bar). I'm really glad that you are involved in The Alliance (the group of 4: India, me, you and Ottomans). I haven't met the Ottomans yet and I am not sure if the Indians have either ... so if you can feel them out about being involved in our Alliance, that would be great.
I also understand that you are involved in the Tech Cartel that Krill is organizing. The Indian's and I are using 'Alliance' for our secret group of 4 and 'Cartel' for the tech trading so that it is clearer in our heads.
I have met India, Exploit (further W of India) and Inca (to my East). I am currently hunting Krill (should met in 3 or 4 turns) then looking for the Ottomans and any nation to the Inca's east (Rome?).
The really big news is that I am 80% sure that Inca is planing on attacking me pretty shortly with axes and Qs. I am currently trying to work out what I can do to resist these slugs. How about I will say totally bad things about France if you say totally bad things about the Incas - does that sound like a plan?

chit chat with Darrell (India) yesterday ...
general tech trading, map and Alliance / Cartel stuff
Quote:- Ruff: Darrell - can you please pass these Qs to Krill?
has your injured warrior S of India healed? Is he moving? Which way?
I have a warrior that I think is about 6-8 tiles due E of Krill ... thinking of moving him SW (ish)
- Darrell: sure, will do
for us, we want you to go The Wheel -> Pottery
- Ruff: I am splitting my time between wheel and archery at the momnet
depends what Inca do
- Darrell: If you did that, we'd go IW next, then when Krill slung alphabet we'd trade IW for it.
- Ruff: is anyone picking up fishing / sailing?
- Darrell: Krill: "My warrior is currently about 8 tiles SE of the Indian Capital and is currently heading SE until he meets the Ottomans"
CW is that the Incans are going to try and Oracle sling Metal Casting, so they would head for Pottery and BW (which I think they already have)
Rome settled aggressively towards us. Well, aggressively in my mind.
- Ruff: thx - tell him I will head SW and will provide a more accurate reference re LN when I see the game
- Darrell: done
- Ruff: have to head to work - will be back on line in 80 mins
want to chat re alliance and tech block details
and tell those lazy HRE to move their friggin warrior 1SE for me
- Darrell: okay...I'll be in a meeting all morning, but will be online lunch time
- Ruff: you there?
- Darrell: yup
- Ruff: ahh
- Darrell: ooh
- Ruff: so - do our teams have an alliance?
- Darrell: yes
- Ruff: I don't actually remember formalizing it
- Darrell: I am embarrassed that this is not clear

- Ruff: and who are the other 2 teams?
- Darrell: But we have an alliance. We wish it to be a 4 team alliance inside a larger 8-9 team alliance
We have just the two of us so far as confirmed.
- Ruff: I am going to use the term alliance for our 2-4 team group
and cartel for the larger tech trading one
- Darrell: acceptable
- Ruff: so - who are we looking at adding to our alliance?
HRE?
not Exploit?
- Darrell: I am just now trying to pull up rego's diagram
we are probably going to kill exploit at some point in the game.
- Ruff: not Krill?
- Darrell: we'd like to reserve the option of expanding into his territory
we'd be open to krill I guess, and HRE as well
gimme a sec to see where everyone is located
- Ruff: can you send me a link to that too pls

- Darrell: https ...<snip> - talk to rego if you want a copy
- Ruff: looks like we haven 't met anyone between our band and Krills band
- Darrell: For some reason I thought Krill was to our south.
- Ruff: I think the whole world wraps NS and EW
- Darrell: ah...that makes sense
no wonder krill killed korea
- Ruff: hey - did you see my note re grid naming structure centered on LNs? Is there StoneHenge is based?
- Darrell: I did not see that note. I don't even know what our diplo email address is
- Ruff: lol
- Darrell: since the wrapping is toroidal does it matter?
- Ruff: I think we should start referring to map tiles with reference to LN
no, it doesn't really matter but it makes it easier to coordinate
- Darrell: that would make it matter

yes
I can't believe we dont know who is between us and krill.
- Ruff: it also makes the Indians think that they are the center of the world
- Darrell: I thought I had screens fromhim
think?
are you doubting that
- Ruff: lol
- Darrell: i see why...krill came to use from the other direction so my screenshots from him don't have our neighbor to the north
that just sucks
- Ruff: I haven't gone v far north yet
mainly EW
who is missing off the map?
- Darrell: Pacal of Carthage
hold on a sec I have intel on where they are
fudge...doesn't this tool auto log?
- Ruff: google chat? yes - search for chat
- Darrell: i am stoopid
carthage is east of krill
already on there
- Ruff: Inca is E of me
who is on the SWAP team?
- Darrell: Sockboy + ad hoc + WarriorKnight + Pegasus
Kyan + Twinkletoes89 + Whosit - Pericles of Babylon
Cull + RefSteel + Maniac Marshall - Ragnar of Maya
Cyneheard + haphazard1 + antisocialmunky - Suryavaraman of England
SleepingMoogle + Bobchillingsworth + ManiaMuse - Hannibal of Byzantium
Broker33 + dsplaisted + Swiss Pauli - Huayna Capac of Mali
With Korea dead, only five unknown
I dont think it is a perfect 4x4 grid cause there were 17 teams
- Ruff: 4x4 with 1 row being 5
our row as it turns out
- Darrell: our row
yeah
bastards
- Ruff: but we have Korea land open to us in the Soth
- Darrell: yes we do
- Ruff: thank you Krill!
ok - you kill exploit
I kill Inca
we need to do something about Rome - cannot leave them just hanging around
either bring into alliance or kill
the way I see it our 4th should be from Rome, Portugal or Ottomans
with us killing the 2 that we don't include
- Darrell: I am fine with them in the alliance, but I heard from HRE that SSS are a bunch of jerks
- Ruff: well - if we concentrate on expanding E/W the we should have 2 teams per row
you and me in our row and HRE and one of Portugal / Ottomans in the other
that we each allaince member is covered on 3 sides and only has 1 side to worry about
- Darrell: I like that idea
- Ruff: just have to met Portugal / Ottomans first
re tech - how many teams are we discussing tech trades with?
I would really like to get Sailing as this land seems riddled with rivers
firming up the techs ...
Quote:- Darrell: hold on a sec
I have a list for you now
(you won't like it)
Porugal: Sailing
India: Archery
Ottomans: Pottery
- Ruff: IW
HRE: HBR
Eygpt: Alphabet
- Ruff: why won't I like it?
- Darrell: Sailing is claimed
- Ruff: because the Aztec's don't have anything to offer
someone from India suggested wheel -> pottery to me this morning
- Darrell: that person was ignorant of the machinations of krill. that person spoke with krill about half an hour ago. that person apologizes for any misinformation.
- Ruff: that person was you?
well - I am about 40% of the way into Archery
- Darrell: #$%@#@
oh...yeah it was me
- Ruff: the other option is that I go religion but that will double up with Krill abit
- Darrell: this morning we were doing IW, but Rome wants to control their own destiny on that front
You mean masonry/monotehism?
- Ruff: yeah
- Darrell: You could finish Archery for us

- Ruff: and what would you do?
- Darrell: run cash?
I dunno
there aren't a lot of techs
Actually, we coudl do masonry for you
- Ruff: metal casting but that is a beast
- Darrell: we could do masonry, you could do archery, then we swap them?
- Ruff: I also lack HA and fishing
but have hunting and myst
- Darrell: pre-req techs are implied included
in the cartel
- Ruff: oh right
well - can you do Masonry and I will finish archery
- Darrell: yes
I am chatting with rego now, but he is not answering
- Ruff: I started to get a little ansty about Inca so put some turns into Archery
- Darrell: we are cash this turn and next regardless
he's okay with it.
The nice thing abot that is we can tell krill you are in the alliance and already on archery, so we'll do masonry
- Ruff: ok, will make sure that I have archery ready for T62 (is that about right?)
- Darrell: yes
- Ruff: ok - I should have archery down in 4 or 5 turns
- Darrell: although my understanding is techs will be made available as they are available. we expect to get the wheel and pottery evne though we don't have the beakers to pay for both yet
- Ruff: well - not before alphabet
- Darrell: yes, that's true
you have no motiviation to finish any trading tech before then, other than you get to make archers earlier
Okay...so Krill is putting you down as archery in the alliance and us as masonry
- Ruff: yeah - but it is a bugger having to wait for some good techs (pottery)
but so be it
say Thx to Krill
and thx to India for swapping
meeting various people ...
Quote:- Darrell: You need to try and meet HRE asap according to Krill.
- Ruff: will be this turn
- Darrell: And Krill as well, although that already seems about to happen.
- Ruff: I am hoping they move their warrior so that I don't have to move towards them
Krill and I should be heading to a meeting spot
- Darrell: he says you need to get as far west as portugal
- Ruff: just want to meet ottoman / portigul to start sounding them out about alliance
- Darrell: yes...and we need to meet them as well. we will get to the ottomans first I think.
- Ruff: where is Krill's warrior
directly S of LN? and heading SE?
- Darrell: no, 8 tiles SE of LN and heading straight SE
- Ruff: so - he is at location +8:-8
8 tiles along x axis, -8 along y axis
- Darrell: err...yes
that is correct
- Ruff: ok - I will provide update on my warrior location when I get home
- Darrell: sounds good
- Ruff: I think he is at +8:-6
hmm - that sounds too close
maybe +9:-5
and I will redo my grid references so that they are based on LN instead of 99.94
HOWEVER ...
this does not mean that The Village Green is DJCiv's vassal
- Darrell: hah-hah...fair enough
- Ruff: but I will happily force all other civs that I met to adopt our grid referencing
the only downside is that it gives away the location of YOUR capital
- Darrell: works for us...its nice beeing greenwich
or trying too - I basically walked in circles while HRE extracted their digits from their asses.
Quote:- Ruff: Darrell - where are those HRE guyes?
I moved onto the silk and I cannot see them - can you please ask them to send me a screenshot of their warrior
- Darrell: lemme log in and see if I can see anyone
are they supposed to be in my los?
dont see them
dont have their contact info but will post in our forum
- Ruff: thx
I'll get you a current grid reference in a bit
I cannot actually see your capital - is it 2S1W of your rice?
- Darrell: yes
- Ruff: ok - my warrior is on the silk at -5:27
duh - no he isn't ... he is at 27:-5 x:y
- Darrell: does that mean 5 south and 27 east
- Ruff: yes 27E, 5S
and my warrior trying to meet Krill is at 11E, 2S
so ... miles away from Krill with no hope of catching him if he heads SE
- Darrell: I let him know
He says he is going to go NE after a few more turns
I have no clue if that helps
- Ruff: it does
I will keep you posted

more chit chat with rego this time ... he didn't know that Darrell had given me the link to his map / civ location document
Quote:- DJCiv (Rego): stellar - thanks!
- Ruff: what have you said to HRE about alliance
- DJCiv (Rego): i was just talkig to them this morning
- Ruff: are they fully onboard and do they know that it includes us
- DJCiv (Rego): kind of just generally talking about it
yes i think so
they were talkigna bout you, us, them and ottomans
- Ruff: and the ideas re 4th that we discussed yesterday?
- DJCiv (Rego): i mean he said he'd talk it over with his teammates but the general idea i got was that they were onboard with it
they were thinking ottomans
- Ruff: ok - fine
- DJCiv (Rego): i don't remember what else we discussed?
- Ruff: either otto or portugal
I don't care either way
they mentioned that they have been all the way WE
- DJCiv (Rego): HRE has?
odd that you, sumeria and inca are all in a line, 4-6 tiles north of us
- Ruff: that is what they said ti me
guess you were the odd one out ... the 5th in our line
I would pencil in that the map is 62 x 62
- DJCiv (Rego): i find it odd that we have met EVERYONE in 3 lines, and NOONE in the 4th line (the one north ofu s)
- Ruff: 64 x 64
true - but I haven't gone v far north
lots of desert
- DJCiv (Rego): yeah we hit the desert then died @ 21%
- Ruff: oh dear
- DJCiv (Rego): we've died to lions at 4, and 21% :-(
4%!!!!
- Ruff: lightbulb time ... I am starting to think that the map script is Speakers green team battle field
- DJCiv (Rego): yeah that thought has crossed my mind too
- Ruff: don't think it comes in 64x64 but anyone with notepad can change that
4% ... really
- DJCiv (Rego): yup
on a hill over a river
- Ruff: well, then your guy was a goner at 21%
- DJCiv (Rego): 2 v 3.2
- Ruff: I like your interactive locations map
I send you info - it turns up in the map
- DJCiv (Rego): i sent you the address for our locations doc?
- Ruff: darrell did
- DJCiv (Rego): ah ok
- Ruff: no idea who you are
rego?
- DJCiv (Rego): yes
- Ruff: thx for sharing - lol
I have a warrior hunting for Krill ... down at 4S, 13E ... guess he will also head off to meet SWAP
- DJCiv (Rego): krill also has a city at 2, -22
- Ruff: my other explorer warrior is at 5S, 30E ... he will head SE to portugal then continue S to England and France, then further S to ???
if we can find 1 civ on the 2nd row, then we can pencil in start locations for the others
in fact ... I would pencil in start locations for the ones you are missnig and put a '*' on them
13 tile separation looks about right
well - 16 for the ones in a row of 4

email exchange with Team A4 (Zara of the Ottomans) ...
Quote:Well Met,
My warrior (Find Krill) just met your chariot (Belit) south of my cities. It is a great meeting, beautifully timed for me. So far I have met the following:
India (Sunrise, regoarrarr, darrell, sooooo)
Exploit
HRE
Inca
As you may be aware, I am involved in the Tech Cartel providing Archery. I understand that you will be providing Pottery.
Sorry to strain the friendship so quickly, but I was wondering if you could do me a favour? I see from the game that you haven't met the Inca yet. I have the feeling that they (Inca) are planning on attacking me soon (about 80% sure of it). They refused a very short NAP and they are just next door to my civ. Couple that with their tendency to like to acquire Holy Cities. Anyway, they had a Q around my second city. I don't have anything that can deal with a Q ... so I was wondering if you would mind lending a hand to killing it. It was near my second city (location is 2N, 9E of Ladies Night - 9N, 2W of your chariots current location) and I'm thinking it is returning to attack my 2nd city while other units attack my capital.
If I am right and you come north then you can meet the Inca if they don't attack me (best case scenario) or help out in my defense by killing the Q if they do attack me (worse case scenario). I am currently gearing up to defend my capital and if that Q can be removed then I can safely hook up copper and be really secure.
I'm also talking to HRE about this - we both have single warriors over near the Inca capital and we are heading there with the same objective (meet Inca if they don't attack / see if we can cause some strife if they do attack).
Regards,
Ruff
Quote:Hi Ruff
Greetings from the land of Greater Hyboria.
It indeed does seem like the meeting is beautifully timed. It is even
more fortunate that Belit's original intention of meeting with India
is no longer needed.
We don't really want to leave you to possibly get attacked since you
are in the tech cartel. Therefore we will be moving him N towards your
second city. The only thing we are unsure about is actually declaring
war on the Inca but hopefully it will not come down to that.
May this gesture be the 1st step to a long and fruitful relationship
with the Aztec People.
Enough Talking!

P.S. Enough Talking! is our standard sign off message, see the attached picture.
Quote:Also, forgot to mention. Krill has a warrior 3S of Find Krill (we guessed that his intention is to find Krill). We think that he will
move NE next turn. If you go S next turn you should meet him.

Have I mentioned that I think the Incas are coming. Well, I am trying to organize a few surprises for them. Surprise #1 is in the next post (organized yesterday). Surprise #2 just popped up today when I met the Ottomans ... they have a CHARIOT!!!
YESYESYESYES!!!!!!!
Ok - that was edited in later
Quote:Hi A4,
What does A4 stand for? Surely not paper size?
My feeling re an Inca attack just climbed from 80% to 85% (they double whipped again).
I've attached a pic of your chariot, my warrior, my second city and where that Q (unit name is HotDog) was and where I think it went. They met India this turn (T52) which would put them right on my yellow track (see pic). If they turn around and head back my way then my 85% above will climb to 95%. I haven't got time to chop that forest 1SW of my city so I am assuming that it will end up there. If they don't declare war, then you get to met the Inca ... but if they do then you get some experience by killing it. You won't be able to enter my territory without declaring on me but if that Q is in my territory then declare on both me and Inca and have at it.
Killing that Q will enable me to hook up my copper and to survive anything that the Inca can throw at me. I will also owe you a huge huge debt.
Anyway - I am really hoping that I am wrong but I am currently preparing as if I am right.
Cheers,
Ruff
This is the screenshot I mentioned ...
Chat with India ...
Quote:- DJCiv: cool
the tile we're supposed to be on has a lion on it
- Ruff: ?? to met them?
- DJCiv: yes
- Ruff: I just met their chariot at 6S 12E
is there where you are heading?
- DJCiv: that's where their chariot is/
?
- Ruff: my warrior is there
their chariot is 1SW of that location
are they in our Alliance?
- DJCiv: our warrior is 1e 19s
yes i think so
- Ruff: I thought HRE was going to talk to them abou tit
- DJCiv: yeah
maybe they have 2 chariots
- Ruff: maybe
who is this?
I've been talking to HRE about my Inca fears ... currently emailing the Ottomans about that too
- DJCiv: keek
- Ruff: rego?
- DJCiv: yes
- Ruff: people with two names ... sheess!
- DJCiv: not my fault you can't pronounce regoarrarr.....

- Ruff: the HRE said that they could help out by providing a warrior ... I am guiding them to meet Inca and hary them if they do declare on me
currently pitching similar to Ottomans
- DJCiv: col
- Ruff: got any devistating units you can throw into the possible fray?
lol
- DJCiv: not really
- Ruff: well - if I can swing a led of that Chariot - it will be really fun if Inca do try something
lend
- Ruff: you have to love this alliance ... HRE said they would help out with a warrior if I am attacked
if Ottomans can help out by killing that Q near my second city, then I will get copper hooked up in time and be much much safer
- DJCiv: yeah that would be pretty cool
- Ruff: HRE and I have a warrior over near the Inca capital ... we are heading there so that HRE can meet them ... and maybe cause some strife if they do declare on me
would love to sneak in the back door with 2 warriors hoping to find their pants down
- DJCiv: you're on archery now, right? (not that it matters with quechuas)
- Ruff: archery due next turn
archers with 40% city culture should be ok against Qs
but will throw in some warriors too
2 of each should be able to defeat up to 6(?) units
gee I will feel totally foolish if I am wrong about the Inca
but it makes for some fun anyway
- DJCiv: yeah
- Ruff: hey - if it does come to war ... is the first half better of the second half?
- DJCiv: hmm not sure
- Ruff: if first - get to apply promotions before they attack but don't get healing if I attack
if second - get benefit of healing if I decide to attack before they can reply
- DJCiv: hmm
- Ruff: have any of you units gained promotions from barbs?
prob not iwth your losses
- DJCiv: we have 1 or 2 with 1 promo
- Ruff: because it seems that the promotions from barb XP are delayed a turn
are you seeing that?
- DJCiv: yes
Chat with Ottomans ... they are sending their Chariot north to 'met' the Incas
Quote:- Ruff: hi there
- Ottoman: hi
- Ruff: I thought I heard a romour that you guys were aussies?
thx for your email - I am putting together a screenshot of where I think that Q is
- Ottoman: rumor?
- Ruff: the Inca just met India so I should be able to get some into from them
not Aussies?
- Ottoman: well, I am but no ne else is
WarriorKnight BTW
- Ruff: I am too - living in NY
where are you from?
- Ottoman: Perth
- Ruff: I love Perth ... was there twice on sporting trips (baseball and aussie rules)
- Ottoman: we are currently have a heat wave
several days of realy hot weather
but anyway
- Ruff: ouch
I was just home in Sydney mid Feb ... lovely ... 25C
- Ottoman: well, its closer to 35-40 here ATM
- Ruff: so ... pretty dam hot
- Ottoman: yep
- Ruff: NY just had a foot of snow ... and it isn't even that cold ... only 2c
can easily get down to -5 and stay there for days
- Ottoman: I know, I was in NY not that long ago
anyway, I assume that your warrior's intention is to find krill?
- Ruff: yes pls
I know he is a few tiles S and W of my current location
- Ottoman: actually he is 3S
- Ruff: ahh - directly S?
thx
- Ottoman: if you go S, you can probably meet him next tun
- Ruff: do you have any idea where he is heading ... last I heard he was heading E
- Ottoman: well, E sounds about right
except he needs to head N to get around our borders
so NE?
- Ruff: ahh - so basically right at me
guess I will go SE and see what happens
I'm sending you an email with a pic of where I think that Q is ... the Inca met India this turn (I've asked India for intel).
- Ottoman: ok
- Ruff: email coming soon
- Ruff: email sent - thx for the input re Krill - really good to met you and bloody perfect timing with a chariot too!!
- Ottoman: i look forward to reading your spoiler thread when you see us and go YESYESYESYES!!!!!!!
lol
BTW A4 stands for Awesome Foursome
cheers, we will head for your 2nd city location
let's hope they don't attack
- Ruff: yeah - me too
- Ottoman: BTW, do you know where Exploit and the Inca are?
- Ruff: yes I do
exploit is 13 tiles W of India
Inca are 13 tiles E of me
- Ottoman: cheers
- Ruff: do you know where indian capital is?
- Ottoman: not precisely
- Ruff: they are 13 tiles W of my capital
- Ottoman: so you think that everyone is 3 tileapart ro each other?
13
- Ruff: on our row
16 on the others
think the map is 64x64 with 3 rows of 4 and 1 row of 5
double wrap ... NS and EW
oh - and green team battle field that has had its size edited
- Ottoman: We havetought this map is torodial
- Ruff: because you cannot get a TBField map that is 64x64
easy to do - you only need notepad
- Ottoman: ok
- Ruff: hey - see that screenshot I sent you
- Ottoman: yeah
- Ruff: with flags on it ... 5S, 5E?
those are map coordinates centered on the Indian capital - they were chuffed when I said I was going to center on their capital ... trying to get everyone to do it and then kick back and have a beer there every other night
- Ottoman: hmm
- Ruff: message from India ... "Quechua named Hot Dog indeed - currently 4E1S"
which is exactly where I said it would be ... lol
- Ottoman: oh, you have used the signs map co-ordinated
co-ordinates
from inda' capital, lol
keyboard not wrking right
anyway, thanks for the map info
- Ruff: np - catch you later
- Ottoman: cya
email to India (they met Inca in game this turn) seeking Q's whereabouts ...
Quote:Hi Guys,
I see that you just met the Inca (a Q named HotDog?). Can you please let me know where that little sucker is. I am getting more convinced that they are coming for me ... they also double whipped again. I'm trying to organize a few surprises for them (like an Ottoman chariot).
Cheers,
Ruff
their reply ... right where I put it with my little yellow line
Quote:Quechua named Hot Dog indeed - currently 4E1S
Quote:- Ruff: thx for the location of hotdog
currently talking to ottomans
can you watch that Q and tell me if he heads back East
- DJCiv: will do
- Ruff: if he does, then my Inca paranoia goes from 85% to 95%
it went up 5% because they whipped again
- DJCiv: right
- Ruff: trying to organize a little surprise
just worked out that I can have 3 archers in my capital 4 turns after finishing archery
- DJCiv: only single whip by them this time
- Ruff: ahh - well, at least both of their cities are whip anger inflicted
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

organizing Surprise #1 - this isn't as good as #2 but it might be a master stoke ... it could also suck badly
Quote:DIM,
btw - have you met Inca ... they are just to your N. If I am right and the yare planning on attacking me shortly ... would you like to join in on some revenge? They might have left their capital empty (or almost empty) and you and I could take it down.
Ruff
Quote:Greetings oh Bringer of Lights,
I'm sure we'd appreciate coming over and watch Cricket, although I have never understood the workings of the game...
Is it the Aztec version of the game, with ceremonial daggers instead of bats?
The Alliance offer is currently being evaluated by DIM's junta, but I can already tell you we are inclined to take up your offer. We will surely consult with the Ottomans and come back with their reply.
Concerning the Incans, would you care to elaborate? What makes you think they are planning to attack you? (you haven't accidently sacrificed their favorite niece have you?). With Rome to their east, wouldn't it also be possible the Incans plan on choking them before they get Iron online?
As we haven't met Inca yet, we cannot but speculate. Can you point us to their lands, so we can send our exploring warrior their way (the one who's healing after meeting up with your warrior)
Allthough we would certainly want to assist you if the Incans do attack you, at the moment we could only offer you token assistance in the form of mentioned warrior. But you can rest assured we will add the Incans to the French international smear campaign...
Anyway, get back to us soon so we think on our next move.
Highest regards,
Ilios, Principality of DIM
Quote:P of Dim,
Inca? Just a feeling. An initial 'Hi' and then no contact for ages until a few days ago. I asked for a NAP to T75 (which is next to nothing) and they said it was too long. They also had a Q sniffing round my city locations as well as my feeling that I am a bit of a joicy option for them (Holy City). All in all at the moment, it is just a feeling.
Suggestion: you follow my warrior to them and if it turns out that they aren't attacking ... great. If it turns out that they do have aggressive tendencies, could you follow my warrior on a lightning raid against their capital. I would go in first and if it is too hot, warn you and you can bug out. You would probably have to declare on them when we get to their border (again, if they have aggressive tendencies) to follow me in, but it isn't as if they can actually hurt you.
Anyway, its not locked in yet as they haven't done anything concrete. Just follow my warrior and we can either help you meet them or we can have some fun re a dagger strike at their capital.
Cheers,
Ruff
Here is a pic of Surprise #1. I would follow the green line but suggest HRE move to the tile 1S of the silver while I invade - that will allow me to test the water without them having to declare. If it turns out that they only have 1 Q defending their capital (can I hope for no defense?) then HRE declare and we both move to the T57 tile. Looking at the fog, it looks like we will be attacking across a river, but hopefully my warrior can cause some damage and their warrior can capture the city.
A total pipe dream, but worth a shot.

And here is my micro plan for my cities ...
99.94- T52 - warrior with 37 hammers produced (might have whipped that worker 1 turn to early ... maybe not ... does that extra 7 hammers turn into gold? - warrior completes at eot
- T53 - Archer (17h), chop #1, 2nd worker move to forest
- T54 - whip (30h), Archer (38h), chop #2, chop #1, archer completes at eot
- T55 - Archer (34h), chop #3 (20h), chop #2, archer completes at eot
- T56 - Archer (30h), move to chop, chop #3 (20h), archer completes at eot
- T57 - Archer (6h), chop #1, move to chop
- T58 - Archer (7h), chop #2, chop #1
So, I will have 2 warriors in my capital at the end of this turn, then +1 archer at the end of T54, T55 and T56 ... a total of 3 archers and 2 warriors at T56. If they bring enough to take down that lot, then good for them.
60.97- T52 - barracks, warrior in the queue with 1 hammer invested, growth in 4
- T53 - growth in 3
- T54 - growth in 2
- T55 - growth in 1
- T56 - grows and gets whipped for 1 warrior
- T57 - and another warrior this turn
Hopefully, I won't need to whip my second city for 2 lousy warriors ... the Ottoman chariot will clean up the Q (hotdot).

ok, maybe all of my 'arr - the Incas are coming' comments are wrong. Just got the following:
Quote:Ruff,
Sorry for the delayed response, we've all been busy warring Sullla in RBPB2... but that war is over now.
Back to an NAP,
Not sure how long is appropriate.
We do have Rome nextdoor... always intruiging...
We've met some others as well, mostly purple civs.
Regards,
Nakor of JANK
Quote:JANK,
Re the NAP ... its currently T52. We could sign a NAP with a minimum 10 turn cancellation period ... effectively through to T62 and it just stays at 10 turns until either of us cancels it. I would be happy with that. Other options are:
T65 with a 10 turn cancellation period
T70 with a 10 turn cancellation period
T75 with a 10 turn cancellation period
You take your pick of the above 4 options ... I am happy with any of them.
Cheers,
Ruff
Gee I wish they would sign one then I can put those 37 hammers of overflow into a settler and not a stupid warrior.
Edit: Ok, maybe not ...
Quote:- Ruff: hey there - got your email and shot off a reply
- JANK: Got it!
Just posted it in our thread and now I'll have to wait for the others a bit...
- Ruff: right
guess you don't have the authority to even agree to a super short one through to T62 do you
- JANK: me? I'm just the messenger...

- Ruff: or even a temporary one through to T57 (5 silly turns)
wouldn't cost your team anything and your whole team could still make the decision re what length NAP really suits you
- JANK: wit a sec
wait
tried to get Athlete online to discuss things, but he's not around
- Ruff: who is this?
- JANK: nakor
- Ruff: hi Nakor
- JANK: sorry, didn't introduce myself
you're just Ruff, right?
- Ruff: np - yes, there is only 1 and some temp players
I understand that a team of 4 needs to coordinate ... but not being able to sign a silly 5 turn NAP (not worth anything) is pretty obvious
I'm sending you an email
This is the email ...
with subject 'Do you prefer Batting or Bowling first? Wrote:Guys,
You are about to make a serious mistake ... almost as bad as winning the toss and sending the opposition in to bat on the flatest of flat wickets. You have Aggressive Rome to your east - and you have decided to let them form a very strong home competition. I really think that this decision will come back and haunt you in future international tours. No doubt they will be a very strong team when they come touring your region. Instead of making the correct move (restricting Rome) you have decided that I am the easier target ... a No. 11 bunny. You will find that this league, while small, is incredibly tough (see http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/cricket/4921462.stm).
Well, attack if you want to. You won't get very far as I already have a number of surprises waiting for you, not to mention home field advantage and groundsman who know how to prepare pitches for the home team. Be aware that the rest of your cricketing future lies in the decision that you are about to make. Develop a sound platform and good footwork and your future is assured. Strike out unprepared with an unbalanced team and you will be relegated to the position of a footnote.

thanksfor the talk anyway... it was nice knowing you...
"it was nice knowing you" ... (note the past tense!) right - so it is definitely on!

a classic email from Exploit. I guess he will be a little pissed when Krill oracles Alphabet and all of his tech becomes redundant.
Quote:With the advent of Writing, the Tech Peddler nation has created the first advertising flyer for its wares. I have BCC'd everyone since some members of this mailing list have not met one another in game.
Tech Peddler Products
Technology
The Tech Peddler nation is pleased to announce that on Turn 72, it's flagship line of technology products will be made available for sale. Technology products include (with beaker costs): The Wheel (108), Agriculture (108), Mining (90), Pottery (144), Animal Husbandry (180), Bronze Working (216), Writing (216), and Alphabet (540). More technology products will be added to this list as they become available.
Mercenary Units
The Tech Peddler nation maintains a large variety of military units which are available for sale based upon production cost in hammers with a 10% premium for unique units or for each unit promotion. Tech Peddler is also willing to accept military units as part of payment for its other product offerings. Note: the trade in military units requires open border agreements to facilitate the exchange of units and will come with a negotiated NAP clause of variable length depending upon the strength of the units sold.
Tech Peddler Fair Trade Policy
The Tech Peddler nation believes in open markets between all civilizations and as such makes its products available to all civilizations in the world that are not currently at war with Tech Peddler. Tech Peddler does reserve the right to refuse to trade with nations who refuse to reciprocate the sale of their technologies to Tech or who engage in activities that are clearly hostile towards Tech Peddler however every diplomatic effort will be made to resolve such barriers and resume normal trade relations.
The Tech Peddler nation believes in trades of equal value with neither party subsidizing the other. As such trades will be structured so that goods of equal value are exchanged (for instance 100 beakers of tech for 100 beakers of tech). To facilitate the exchange of goods based upon different units of measurement, Tech Peddler has developed an exchange system for the most common barter measurements (beakers, gold, hammers). In the event that a trade of equal value cannot be arranged then the difference shall be carried over as a credit towards the next trade deal.
Tech Peddler Exchange Rates
The base exchange rate formula used by the Tech Peddler nation is: 20 beakers = 4 hammers = 5 gold = 1 gpt for 10 turns
This formula is open to some negotiation for variation with individual civilizations based upon a variety of factors including bulk buys, repeat business etc.
As always customer feedback is appreciated.
Regards,
Exploit

A classic email! One for the ages. The Village Green are always interested in trade, regardless of type. I've noticed one such trade item that you haven't included on your list ... missionaries! Would you be interested in buying a missionary from me? My current thinking regards exchange rate is 1 missionary = 1 worker.
It might take me a while to deliver as I expect to be in a war against the Inca pretty shortly.
Cheers,
Ruff
