Finished Optics, which was a bit of a throw-up-my-hands choice. Really not sure what to research next, maybe Astronomy, even though it'll take forever. That'll provide both research (observatories) and defence (ships). Not sure where to focus on settling, either, the jungle-arm or the islands. I'm assuming I can only secure one before the other players move in on the other. So far I've settled one island, which you've seen, and next turn will settle one city on the arm, which I've begun clearing. The other players have already claimed the junction of the arms (eep! I hadn't been paying enough attention up there).

BaII cleans up THH's mess [spoilers!]

mhm, I haven't seen any of the other spoiler threads, so I recommend u to stop some infra builds to get out some settlers and settle the last bit of land before it's all taken up. Then use the fact that with your small number of cities you can a high slider to run the culture slider and try to get a cultural victory. ofc this is all speculation at this point.

Thanks for the advice, BaII. I have been building settlers steadily since we came back from our hiatus, but maybe not fast enough. The only problem is that I also want to grow onto all my cottages, and building settlers of course retards that. But you're right, it's probably necessary. Since you're unspoiled, do you think I should prioritize the jungle-arm or the islands (or do you need more screenshots to have an opinion)? The only part I think I disagree with is running the culture-slider. I'm really behind in tech, and think I need to deal with that before thinking about anything else (other than settling). The thought of cultural victory has occurred to me, though, though I'm not sure I'd be able to pull it off ...
A map would be pref as I don't know which part of the land your actually going to take, but I think that the jungle-arm is better than the islands. This is to prevent Sirian Doctrines from becoming a huge possibility. However since this is a Green's game so they might not be able to execute one good enough. So islands are more of a possibility.

I started on Astronomy, even though it's darned expensive, 'cause why the heck not? Everything else useful is going to take just as long, and as I said it's a dual-purpose tech (ie. I could get Paper + Education in the same time for the same +25% boost to research, but no galleons - plus observatories are cheaper IIRC).
I also founded a new city (and converted it to Judaism): ![]() Romenna is building it a fishing boat while it chops out its granary. So now I have one island city and one jungle city. Here's an overview of the jungle-arm and the islands (in counter-clockwise order), which also serves as an overview of my existing kingdom for anyone who's interested: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I have another settler moving north and a third completing at the end of next turn.
I settled a new city on the arm, which I'll post a picture of eventually. Azza is encroaching on my arm at the top. I sent a ship out to settle another of the islands. I'm building lots of ships, and missionaries for my new cities.
Finished Astronomy the same turn as Fintourist (I'm last in turn order) and the same turn Sareln started on Optics. Small victories ...
No, no plans to use it for anything other than defence. The best I can build is maces right now, and I'm kinda in the middle of a settling-spree. Next tech Paper, I think (yep, that really was a beeline).
Hey, BaII, what would you like the thread title changed to? "BaII cleans up TheHumanHydra's mess"?
Anyway, just so you know what's going on, I'm currently trying to push out and claim a bunch of island spots while building up a fleet and, soon, observatories. The core cities really need to grow onto their cottages, but the map is so hammer-light it's hard to resist whipping them. Other than not expanding fast enough, I think this has basically been the reason for my lack of success in this game - I haven't understood how to balance whipping and growing under these conditions. I hadn't been planning on attacking anyone, but the thought had occurred to me a couple days ago that one way to try and "catch up" or at least do something in this game might be to attack Viqsi. She's got like one Numidian Cavalry or axemen in each of her cities, which maces would cut through like so much warm butter. I wouldn't attack Azza, your other neighbour; he's stronger. Anyway, good luck with it; I'll read with interest anything you post and maybe be able to provide a little input from time to time.
Alright thanks
also that would be a nice title name regardless though I think I will take a good look at the save file, and try to determine what to do. Now I know Macemen will cut through Viqsi's current condition, though whipping every city for unit's will stop the attack cold, and we would gain nothing. Though, what about some caste system workshops? We are spiritual right? I think the map is extremely green with lot's of grassland, so I might just workshop over everywhere.

Well, this is a wonderful position to be in
![]() ![]() Let's see what I can do to win this ![]() Overview of Land ![]() First off not even a single Great Person produced at this point in the game is just sad. I've hired a pair of scientist and merchants. Scientists will go make me an Academy in the capital, Merchant will be either giving a mission trade, or a GA. I'm researching Priesthood next to get temples, I'm thinking of going for a Cultural Victory here given the low amount of research, but a considerably higher slider (break even 70%). I'm researching Priesthood for temples that will later go into Cathedral's. I'm going to be running a Priest's to get out a great prophet to give me a shrine. (I'm going to running 3 priest's once I get out a Cathederal there)
