Not to mention retreating back to upgrade maces.

Yeahhhh... Jowy's invasions have really hurt him. For example, it's Turn 182 right now.
This was 56 turns ago and during a 2v1 dogpile against a smaller opponent. He's captured one city. These invasions are just way too slow.

It's a pretty clear sign that Jowy and mjmd don't have a lot of experience in later era MP games (which I think they would both readily admit). The heavy focus on rifles from both is a very Single Player-heavy mindset as everyone's been commenting. There's more of an argument for the rifles beeline in unmodded Civ4 using 1 pop Nationalism drafts but not much case for it with Charriu's changes in this mod. Either cuirassiers or cannons would be the better unit to target to roll over an outdated opponent quickly. Rifles are just so slow and give the defender way too much time to whip out their own units. The comparison between pindicator's conquest of superdeath and Jowy's repeated attacks against Charriu pretty much says it all. (Of course you can't get better without playing these games and learning so the newer players deserve a ton of credit!)

With the heavy emphasis on castles in a mod where pro is so heavily buffed, I’d argue cannons would probably have been the best choice. Also would’ve allowed for a quick detour to grenadiers to counter MJMD’s rifles.

If pindicator steals Taj like this, it should propel him to victory. MJMD/Jowy have just been too slow. I'd still put my money on Jowy over MJMD in this case, Cairo being least likely to win.

I feel pindicator SHOULD win regardless due to 3 civs worth of land vs MJMD getting 1.5 civs worth? But Jowy's failure to just go for Cuirs or something, and MJMD with whatever he is doing... makes it a no-brainer that pindi wins this to me.

I think a more experienced player could absolutely win from Mjmd/Jowy's positions. Especially if they were capable of turning the clock back like 20 turns. I definitely agree both of those guys played pretty good games for quite a long time. This stage of the game is really hard though, and they've obviously never done it before in a meaningful game as a front runner. The main thing they have going for them is the tech gap. Pindicator's hole there is real, and if Mjmd/Jowy could have leveraged it to eat Charriu and/or AT before pindicator could close the beaker gap, they could absolutely win. Their chance for doing that is slipping away fast, though, and I've been of the belief pindicator takes this since long before you died purely as a bet on/against the players moreso than the in-game position. It's super important to pick the exact right techs when you've got a tech lead, particularly at this stage of the game where they're really impactful, because your lead of a huge number of beakers is a total mirage if it's invested in the wrong techs.

I'd say pindicator got 2.5 civs worth, SD's land, although nice was rather small, and he only got 1/2 of what gira should've expanded into, while MJMD got the rest, as well as skimming off Charriu's floodplains. Pindi's not in the clear yet, it'll take more of the awesome gameplay he's shown to finish this.
