RB Pitboss #1 Spoiler -- Zara of the Holy Roman Empire

Nothing much on the email front.

MH/Kodi hit the lake and asked if they had to go through the tundra to get to me. I said yest

Dreylin said that Regoarrarr and DSV are converging on sunrise with me. I could swear in a chat they met somebody else maybe the incans so hopefully they are around there also.

Scout will then turn north for the fabled nw passage

Warrior heading back into the tundra going to fog bust the rest and then swing back to the core.

Western warrior is heading west.

Just got an email from Kalin/Dreylin

Regoarrarr and ZPV are definatly near Sunrises capital trying to cooridinate a meeting.

Inca's are also in the area may be able to meet 4 civs in the next couple turns. That will be 7 out of 10.

Scout will then head through the nw passage to find the others.

Found Krill and had a conversation with him. He wanted to set up a trade. I played dumb. Didnt lie but made it look like I was further behind than I am.

Well let me give you an update of the status of the empire from memory since I am not at the civ computer.

Capital whip unhappiness should be ending soon, Settler in 9 but I have two workers mid chop to speed that up.

Writing in 9 may shave a turn off that when I get done with settler and grow.

After settler will begin work on Oracle ( I hope I am early enough on this but if not cash should be good). Will whip lib with overflow going into oracle. After Oracle then settler worker. settler Hopefully 2nd city can train defenders while I pump out the settlers.

Met Krill he wanted to set up trade. Since I havent even met Sunrise or Regoarrarr I didnt want to talk out of turn so I played dumb. Chat is above.
That is the frustrating part of the whole thing no contact and the Lin's have been busy.

As for contact with Sunrise I should make that this turn and Regoarrarr the turn after.

Settler is going to go to my original city site.

Dreylin mentioned that they had no horses in sight. Going to be a tough negotiation but I need to have that horse spot. N of it I spoted two more city sites that will drive my commerce for the empire.

Would hate to war with him would rather a long term ally so I can push out towards Kodi and Ruff. Have to figure this out.

Research will probably go fishing next as it is a quick 5t tech. Then the lib can help with wheel. Depending on how much it speeds me up my have to forgo agriculture, pottery until after IW.

Please comment on my plan. Or lack there of. I feel I am behind with no cities out and teching.

Here's the one point I'll bring up for you: if you're worried about not getting your fair share of land in the north, is it worthwhile to tie up your capital for a dozen or so turns building the Oracle? Now the Oracle serves an important purpose, getting you an eventual Great Prophet for a shrine, but it undoubtedly will slow expansion. Civ is a gaming of competing priorities - I'm suggesting you think carefully about what you feel is most important.

I don't even know what the best path is for your civ, but I thought I'd bring up one early decision that you're staring in the face. smile

My hope is to sucessfully negotiate a split with Dreylin on the north. In reality I only need to place 2 cities up there to lock in what I need.

Had a conversation with them yesterday. They dont see any horses close to them. The horses are almost directly in between us.

I dont want to rush in there and grab the land since I agreed not to. I do want to cultivate this relationship. I plan on any agressive action towards MH/Kodi and Ruff.

I am thinking of a combination of giving up more land (although not as good) and possible free religion will be enough.

Good points Sulla but unfortunatly I already agreed not to do a straight grab. I have to hope my negotiating skills are up to the task.

Sent the following message to the League

I went back and forth on this but decided on short and sweet. I had detail and deals in various versions but dont want to tip my hand. On one version I mentioned that I could claim what I need with one blocking city but I dont want to threaten.

Quote:How goes your scouting in my north.

I am interested in drawing up the lines. I have certain bare mininum needs out of that land.

Please advise.

I need lurker input (I know you have all seen the maps) Here is a draft of a letter to the Lin group about the northern land. Would like to have this wrapped up before I start oracle.

Please let me know any comments or changes you would suggest.

Is it fair?
Am I giving too much?

Quote:Let me start this email by saying that while some of my comments may sound harsh they are not intended to be threatening. There are certain realities I have to deal with and I just want to be clear and open with my approach with you. I have decided to give you my bare minimum needs I would like more but in the interest of expediting this and fostering a long term working relationship I have decided to forgo normal negotiating tactics and skip to the end.

First of all the horses in the tundra are unreachable at least 20 to 25 tiles away through the tundra. Much closer to Kodi and they will most likely claim them long before I could ever think to get there. Those are the only other horses I have seen and I did not mean to imply that I could claim them. So we are in the same situation. I need them also.

I originally had 5 city sites planed up there before I knew how close you were.. One just north of the choke point of my capital, one at the horses, one north of the wines and one at the opening near your capital, one south of that by the northern edge of the desert.

Now I understand that is completely unrealistic and I will have to make due with cities in the tundra but I need some of those sites.

Originally I had though the one north of my cap, wines and horse sites but there was concern with the wine site being in close proximity to your capital.

I propose that I settle city north of my cap, horses which will be nw of my first city (there is a small peninsula up there that I can put in a couple fishing villages for commerce.

Basically I will be settling up the western coast of this land directly north of my capital. This makes me very light on production locations but there may be something useful in the tundra that I haven’t been able to map out.

You can have the rest of the land down to the desert. If you can figure out a decent site in the desert that takes the northern incense in your 2nd ring you are more than welcome. I will only have one in my 2nd ring the other is 3rd ring.

If you do not have horses anywhere else I will be more than willing to share the resource with you. I can gift you the resource when you are building mounted troops. I can only assume we won’t be both doing training of them at the same time. If by some stroke of luck I manage capture the other source and you have not secured your own I will of course permanently gift you the horse.

I would of course expect the same consideration if Iron were to pop up on your side of the land and I was without it.

Now conceding down to just two of 5 cities is the best I can do. If it becomes a grab situation I can seal the west half of the area with one city and a border pop and take the same sites. This is not a large area of land. I prefer to not do this for several reasons.
1) I have no intention of expanding through you. Krill is on the other side and I fully assume there will be a war there and I want no part of it. Although I will assist an ally in anyway I can.
2) I fully assume Ruff to war with Kodi or me. If Kodi I want to be in position to grab part of the spoils. If me I need to be able to defend
3) I need a long term peaceful relationship on one of my borders.
4) The blocking site would be less than ideal and waste a lot of land.
5) I need to prepare to expand towards my future conflict and don’t want to slow that down defending my back door.

By not having the wine city I am leaving my border completely exposed to you and would need some type of long term assurance against attack. That was to be my defensible position and I would like to have one more site up there but will do without.

I believe this is fair as I get the minimum of what I need to have a growing civ while giving you the lion share of the available land.

I have not scouted your other directions but you have two other directions that you can expand and capture good land and resources. I do not, only other resources I have are some beaver and a deer. Woo hoo.

Now with this agreement you can be assured of getting the land agreed and can more aggressively pursue the other directions and back fill here as necessary. Otherwise you will be directing resources to grab land this way.

Of course if you feel that you can spare more I would appreciate it. I have been more than forthcoming in our dealings and wish to cash in on some of the good will now.

Any chance you can take a screenshot of the horse area, with a note of how far your capital, and how far Lin's is? Wouldn't want to offered spoilered advice based on the full map nono

On the general level, if you really want a site then - from my experience in the Poly demogame - it's best to settle it then deal with the consequences. Just make sure the site is worth it though wink
