Counting up the Votes!
Quote:Oledavy - Mansa
Pindicator - Peter (Bismark #2)
Shoot the Moon - Mansa
WarriorKnight - Bismark (Mansa #2)
Luddite - Darius (Peter #2)
Mardoc - Mansa (Bismark #2)
Waterbat - Darius
KP - Darius (Elizabeth #2)
SleepingMoogle - Mansa/Darius
Jkaen - Peter (Mansa #2)
Nakor - Mansa
Xanes - Elizabeth
thestick - Bismark (Mansa #2)
Tallies (I'm ignoring 2nd votes in this) -
Mansa - 4.5
Peter - 2
Bismark - 2
Darius - 3.5
Elizabeth - 1
It looks like Mansa & Darius have the most favor. I propose a run-off vote between those two so we can pick a clear winner. The EXP leaders seem to be in the clear minority, although they would be fun. Does anybody have a problem with this kind of run-off vote?
Otherwise,

* If any leader has 9 votes (out of 13 total) at any point then we will call it early in that leader's favor.

Earlier voting taking into consideration secondary preferences:
Quote:Oledavy - Mansa
Pindicator - Darius
Shoot the Moon - Mansa
WarriorKnight - Mansa (#2)
Luddite - Darius
Mardoc - Mansa
Waterbat - Darius
KP - Darius
SleepingMoogle -
Jkaen - Mansa (#2)
Nakor - Mansa
Xanes - Mansa
thestick - Mansa (#2)
Tallies:
Mansa - 5 (3 are #2 votes and need confirmation)
Darius - 4
So unless someone changes their vote, it looks like it will be Mansa. Maybe I should shorten the deadline

Anyway, I voted Darius because I would like to have a late-game advantage over other teams. But Mansa could easily work out for the late game -- you just need to put more effort into SPI -- so we'll have a good leader regardless.

Oh, or we could assume that we've already pretty much decided not to do the Pyramids economy and get down to choosing the best Fin leader, sure :neenernee

My worry here is that we wouldn't have any early game advantage, at all. Spi is at least worth a turn or two early, but Org doesn't give that.
And, frankly, in a slow moving demogame, I'm not worried that we'll have any trouble using Spi to its full extent.

Who says I've given up on the Pyramids?
Also, in interest of moving things along I've added a super-majority clause to the run-off vote. If someone gets 9 votes (over 2/3) then we'll call it. Also, people who had Mansa or Darius as their first vote don't need to vote again, but if you had one of them as your second vote please confirm that they are still your top choice. If everybody votes before the deadline we'll call a winner then too.

Quote:I vote Elizabeth
please lets not take Darius, I would prefer the EXP ideas because they sound more fun and Elizabeth and Mansa Musa, because I believe they are stronger.
The thing about Elizabeth is that she's... awkward. In order to benefit from FIN, you have to be working cottages and coast, but to benefit from PHI you'll need to be working farms and specialists. You can split half and half, but then you're just getting half benefits from both traits. If we only use PHI to make an early academy and otherwise ignore it, that's a really minor benefit and a waste of a trait.
The only strategy that I can kinda see working with Elizabeth is getting the colossus and the pyramids (through the oracle and forge GE), and running mostly all specialists from land tiles while coastal cities work coast. That would give us 4 commerce coast tiles, which are awesome (instant towns!). But if we're going to be using a mostly pyramids economy, I think the marginal benefit from EXP is better, especially since it makes it much easier to land the oracle.
I really don't think anyone will go for the pyramids. Especially because, if we pick a non-financial leader, our strategy will be obvious, and noone will want to wonder race us when it's so obviously critical to us.
But Darius and MM are a lot easier. Just build the cottages, no risk, and frees us to go after the MoM instead.

Sadly we were in the minority thinking like that, Luddite. We'll have to team up and prove the concept another time

I prefer Mansa over Darius, but there;s not too much difference between them
