New FFH2 PBEM?

Ok, I didn't explain the problem with giving him a city on turn 1 in enough detail - it's not just the normal barbarian warriors that harrass people. It's 4 warriors with free promotions from being built in a computer controlled city + enchanted blade at turn 40-50 normal speed... try it and see. It's more than a little unbalancing.

We could let Acheron spawn as normal, but again it's hard to suppress barbarian cities spawning in your vicinity on Emperor, especially with double animal spawns. I would suggest lowering the difficulty level if we choose that option so that players have a fighting chance to deal with these cities.

I have played it before... Barbarian world is basically that situation (are we using that in this game? can't remember). It's delayed slightly by the need for the city to build Acheron.. but since he only costs fifteen hammers it isn't a massive delay. With Acheron being placed in a somewhat remote location it would take a while for them to walk towards a player.

Warriors have a very hard time taking out a city defended by warriors with a cultural modifier. If you have a decent barb defence force in place then you should be absolutely fine. It's a panic, and it will delay your plans, but in my opinion it can definitely be handled.

I would have no issue with no Archeron. I guess there are enough barbs and stuff around and with human opponents it should be interesting enough, even without Archeron.

Sure it can be defended if you spam lots of warriors, delay your 2nd city and don't happen to get unlucky, but that doesn't make it any more fair to whomever Acheron decides to pick on... I realise Acheron rushing someone is probably very entertaining from a spectator point of view, but this game should be about dealing with the other players, not the barbarians.

I strongly prefer no barbarian world but emperor difficulty.

What might be uncool about Acheron is (if I'm not mistaken) that in PBEM only the last player to play in the turn gets to see where the dragon spawns. Defending against a couple of beefed warriors is not a big problem, but losing a significant part of your living space to his city's culture without any warning definitely is.

Check the event log?

I don't think an un-worldbuildered Acheron is going to happen though.

The log just says he's born. Does it show the location when clicked?

It looks to me like Acheron is creating a lot of hassle. I'm not sure what stage we're at with game planning right now anyways, but I don't think any of us really insist on having him. If the mapmaker had an easy way to balance him then no problem, but with issues like culture blockages and early warrior parties, we're probably better off without him.

I think it does. Not entirely sure.
