Good holidays, Kurumi, well deserved for suregoodjob
Any thoughts about city and characters naming?

Thanks <3
Well, your idea is good for sure, I have nothing against it. You could use comet and asteroid names too, because they tend to be complicated and really SCIENCE-TASTIC!
Yeah, I'm not happy about my past behaviour either. shakehead

Jeez Nappy of Sumer...

Ragnar of Rome is pretty bad too, AGG Rome only serves the purpose of ruining the game for two civs. Cross your fingers for Native America- dogs do pretty well against a Prat Rush, see Plako in 25.

Also, HBHR - good diplomacy there. Grovel publicly (grovelling costs nothing) if that's what they want and use their arrogance to isolate them in diplomacy. If we start near Rome, it should be a priority to suss out his other neighbours.

I disagree. I think if AGG Rome are our neighbors, we should shoot themselves something along the lines of, "We were really impressed by your pick of Ragnar of Rome, but our UU counters your UU so why don't you attack your other neighbor and sign a 100 turn NAP with us so you have security." And then we can offer some token effort(warrior gift, scouting the battlefield, EP agreement). This removes our closest neighbor from contention and at the same time takes another team out of the game.

Oh, and I totally called Izzy of Inca smile

That's a good strategy Oxy, and I think it might work. Here's why I wrote what I did: what if Rome 's default strategy (as signalled in tech thread) is to demand some sort of "tax". We reply: we'd love to work with Rome (perhaps buy some Double promo Praetorians?) but our UU counters yours so let's sign an NAP. They reply: WHARBRRGBL WE ARE ROME, PAY TAX OR DIE. Sure, our UU is a counter, but it's a waste of resources to fight.

In a sense, we are saying the same thing. Priority 1 is to deflect Rome in to an arrangement other than war and most definitely other than vassalage. NAP ideal, trade and flattery are options. In the end, however, it is worthwhile to prepare for a team that just wants to play the bully - submission or war.

And one other thing, I think it's worthwhile in diplomacy to avoid *directly* suggesting an attack on another team unless we're trying to splatter mud (look at this e-mail from Rome - they are planning to attack you). We are the good guys wink

And by "buy" I mean "trade cheap workers for"

Those are some good points, I'm not sure how constructive it is to discuss in length hypothetical diplomatic situations, but I agree that pacifying AGG Rome by (almost) any means necessary is probably worth it.

In other news, 4 more players left to pick a civ before we're up and there are lots of good civs left. I'm feeling cautiously optimistic that we will land Native America.

Sure, really i don´t understand Napoleon and Sumeria picks. Organized have synergy with sumerian UB, and they are playing SE for sure, but i still thinking they had better options (Mehmet, perhaps).
Aggressive AND financial Rome is not too bad, and yes, Dog Soldiers have 100% against other melee units jive
