Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[SPOILERS] Will the Sun(rise) Ever Set on Washington, Mongolia?

(October 24th, 2014, 10:14)Krill Wrote: Map is essentially done. Toroidal. Impossible to get balance for 7 players without it, unless use a ring type map which has other balance issues. Suggest Monarch difficulty to go with standard map size; map dimensions are 76*28. If using RtR, huts and events are nerfed such that there are no negative events ie slave revolt, and no one can pop anything more expensive than BW.

Bolded for emphasis. Yeah. I guess I can count 'em up soon because at this rate the scout is just going to end up north of the capital. (I didn't end up getting a picture, but there was a grassland sheep revealed.)

Everyone is about the same on GNP but I guess that's no surprise with nearly identical starts. Team Korea grew to size 2, also. Cow pasture should finish next turn, so our crop yield goes up by 1 (ha ha hooray) and hammers by 2.

Not important, but an apparent hand-edit left an interesting artifact that looks like a river canyon. Neat.

So, micro plan is this, roughly:

After finishing cows, worker moves to hill. Then mines. (We revolt to Slavery when BW finishes.) Mine finishes, worker builds road, then moves to the half finished road, finishes that, and then moves to the tile 1E of corn to road that for Settler. Gavagai, did you do anything in particular to get that 68 hammers into the settler? I just built that 3rd Warrior, growing on the Ivory. I did let the 3rd warrior finish before starting the Settler, but everything kinda finished up around the time you got things done, so it's probably fine?

So then the cities will grow on Warriors until Pottery is available. I guess. And the capital should get a Settler out by turn 42, but I'll have to keep working on that. We'll want to see where Copper is, anyway.

Still no contacts, so maybe that far-flung fish and cow port is something we can get some day. Still not an awful lot of food visible, either. I think once we connect the north-south map, I'll do one of those "stitch the map together" things.

We now have cows.

Could have sworn I took a picture of the scouting stuff, but can't find it. Basically, found a nice spot with grass pigs and grass sheep. Probably closer to the north of us at this point. Still kind of far off, though.

Sorry, was going to check micro-plan yesterday but fall asleep unexpectedly. Will do it today.

OK, had to replay the turn. Did let me show scouting from last turn though.

Not sure if the land connects North-South, but I think it will. Bronze Working soon. Knowing where Copper is will help with micro plan past turn 30.

Turn 20

This may raise some questions on where to settle up here. Do we settle coast, or settle off-coast to share food with capital? Perhaps there will still be some food in the fog up north, but we'll see next turn. Scout is going to start heading west.

Current plan with capital is to build that 3rd warrior like Gav suggested. I'm going to build it to completion, though I'll check in sim to see if leaving it half built is better.

Demos look nice. First in food and production! And we're the first to size 3! But I doubt these leads will last long. lol

Some of that is from land, but I'm sure not all of it is. Might include pop growth or tech for some of them? I was going to try to suss it out but now I don't know if it's worth the bother. Someone might have got BW from the increase in average soldier count, though.

Turn 21

Two players got +6 score increases, so new tech. That's about all I can figure out. Or care to figure out. However, we've now mapped the world north and south, so take a look at the Known World:

Gavagai, any ideas on settling spots? I'm still a little bit stumped on what to do for cities 3 and beyond.

Here's a closer look at newly revealed territory.

We're no longer the only ones in the size 3 City Club. frown

And demos for anyone who wants to try more in-depth C&D. It's worth noting that someone is still at size 1. Or had whipped down to size 1. Not sure if that's a great place to be right now, or if it really matters. Otherwise, top stats seem similar across the board.

I figured out why our sims gave different results. You revolted to slavery right after BW and I revolted immeditely before whip. In your scenario the worker completed the mine during anarchy and it allowed to complete the warrior one turn earlier but without overflow. This, I think, is a superior option.
And gold is worth settling immediately only if it allows to have first-ring food.

Actually, we can settle a pig/gold city but it will be too far away.

So, just to be clear: Revolting to slavery immediately (NEXT TURN) is the superior option? Timing the completion with the mine with revolt/growth to size 4 is why I revolted immediately.

The Gold may be a strong site, but I agree, too far for city 3. Could put city 3 somewhere north to grab sheep and maybe be a stepping stone? However, I will send the Warrior north for a few more turns to see if it might be a good spot for city number 4 or 5.
