Here is the current situation. Ottomans gifted me two chariots - one injured but due a promotion next turn and one full strength. We moved the full strength one so that the Inca could see it and (I think) that suckered them into moving an axe into range (the unmarked axe moved SW from the forest). They also moved their Q out of range of the full strength chariot.
Their circled units have not moved and may move by the time the turn rolls.
Note that I can now see horses (tech trading day occurred!) - circled in red - my next city is going there and then I am stretching to get the gold (further north) online. I also have a double food, multiple hills location picked out in the south.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Wah - the results of that attack do look a little painful on the infrastructure.
Still, no cities lost and, as I understand it, you didn't lose any workers - how many do you have?
What are your plans from here?
How do you feel about the situation overall?
Apologies for all the questions.

No cities lost, which I consider a minor miracle. I have 2 workers, both on the copper. Plans are ...
- kill incan units in my land
- chop out another worker
- replace improvements
- lay down roads
- get settler over to horse site
- kill YANK (Inca) team
Would I take peace with Inca ... if they pay war reparations, yes.

Thanks for the reply.
I like that plan - punchy, concise and not overly complicated. I give it a gold star.
What would you view as acceptable reparations?
Have my fingers crossed for some good luck with it!

I heard from the Ottomans that the Inca's suggested peace with them. I was expecting an email ... well, I got one ...
Quote:Hi Ruff,
We have decided that continuing this war isn't in our best interest anymore.
So we've made an in game peace proposal. We asked Hunting and Meditation and are willing to sign a long term NAP with your civilization.
Maybe there can be even further cooperation in the (near) future.
We know you might think we're asking for much, but considering how this game is going, it's a cheap deal for you.
We can keep whipping our cities and bring in more axes and very soon chariots, since we've got horses in our second city's first ring.
We're pretty sure we can keep a bigger military and keep your cities very small and all tiles unimproved.
And all the techs you have won't change that one iota.
But, as said before, we like to leave that aggresive past behind us and move into a peacefull future with our close neighbours.
We hope to hear from you soon.
Nakor for JANK
I forwarded that around to my alliance with the comments ...
" Are you having a bad day? Is everything stacked against you today? Do you need a laugh ... well, READ ON!!"
Then Nakor caught me on chat ...
Quote:- JANK: Hi Ruff, Nakor here
- Ruff: hi there
- JANK: I assume you are reading our mail
- Ruff: I am
- JANK: Ok
Maybe we can have a short chat about it.
- Ruff: are you looking for a response?
- JANK: if that's possible, yes
- Ruff: well - what are you planning on paying me for you aggressively declaring on me, pillaging 2 farms and 1 mine?
- JANK: you want the friendly or the agressive response?

- Ruff: well - is my comment above wrong?
- JANK: nope
completely true
but looking at the game, we can keep you busy for a very long time
- Ruff: so who is the wronged party here?
- JANK: well...
you've taken heavier losses then we indeed
we lost an axe
Look, we don't want to drag this war out. We want to grow and maybe play a part in this game in the future that;s more then a footnote. I'm sure you want the same
- Ruff: so - why are you asking for tech
- JANK: continuing this war isn't in both our best interest
because we CAN keep you busy.
Our units can attack your workers now or pillage you copper mine next turn
we've got more axes to bring in and try to finish the job
- Ruff: your units will all be dead by the time you get the chance to pillage my copper mine
- JANK: and maybe even some allies
sure they will
there must be more Ottoman chariots where the first came from
- Ruff: look - I want peace - you want peace
- JANK: yes
- Ruff: make me an offer that doesn't make me laugh my ass off and forward it to friends that might want some cheering up and and we'll see what we can do
- JANK: what's your proposal then?
(and besided that, what are those minor techs worth to you after this turn?)
- Ruff: well - if there wasn't a war, I would have a 3rd city by now and be working on a 4th
however, given that you will probably just laugh at that
how about peace and you throw in a cheap settler and a worker
I agree not to kill your units
and you agree to return them to your land
- JANK: and why would we do that?
we have no proof whatsover that you can kill our units
- Ruff: did you not read all of my comments to you about what would happen if you declared?
did I make 1 factual mis-statement!!
I had multiple surprises waiting for you but you still stuck your head over the hill
why do people not trust what I say to them
- JANK: trust isn't the issue here.
sure, we did trust you and did expect some surprises.
- Ruff: you just said ... "we have no proof whatsover that you can kill our units"
just after I said I would kill your units
- JANK: but we can handle those surprises
- Ruff: how about I kill them and they you have some proof
anyway - I need to go ... report back to JANK and come back with a sensible deal
- JANK: okay.
but... are you the one actually doing the killing?
but I guess this will mean we'll battle on
- Ruff: well - the ottomans killed your first axe
but see what happens next turn if you want to
- JANK: I'll post your thoughts in our thread and we'll see
Athlete will probably reply later in on
I was just heading home and that chat was even worse than the email ... yes, he did just call me a liar. Why don't people believe what I say. Anyway, the train trip home cooled me down some what and I sent this as a follow up ...
Quote:Jank,
As you probably know, Nakor and I chatted and I think it is fair to say that the atmosphere was terse - I get that when people don't take me at my word. I find your terms below completely unacceptable. You probably find my suggestion of a settler and a worker equally so. I have a meeting through to 8pm (NY time) tonight. I suggest that we both put together a range of terms going from straight up peace to asking for the whole house and then we share lists and work out what is acceptable to each of us.

Cheers,
Ruff
PS: Oh - forgot to mention. If we do get together to discuss peace, I would like the person that I chat with to have authority to actually do the deed without having to check back with the team.
I'm hoping that they will draw up a list, I will draw up a list and then we can see where we stand on peace and getting back to civ expansion.

here is my list ranging from "wow - suckers fell for it" down to "I guess that is ok" (all items include NAP and their units returned to their land) ...
- settler plus 2 x worker
- settler plus worker
- settler plus 10 worker turns (loan of a worker)
- 15 worker turns
- 3 x cash gained from pillage
- 2 x cash gained from pillage
- uni-directional NAP through to T140 for them and T100 for me - ie, I can declare on them after T100, they cannot declare on me until T140 (this is based on the fact that I have proven myself trustworthy and they haven't)
- 1.5 x cash gained from pillage
I am not giving them anything for peace. They bungled their rush, bungled killing my second city, decided they wanted to pass up on the chance of joining our tech trading block and now they want to get paid for it.
Don't make me laugh.
Finally - gee I wish I hadn't finished that copper mine - really kicking myself that I did. Should have left it with 1 worker turn to go ... then they couldn't pillage it.

Here is an updated pic - I am currently chatting to athlete - will be back to describe the pic and give some thoughts ...
Edit: Athlete is checking something ... firstly, 2 new axes appear on my right - they will take 5 or 6 turns to get to where the action is (my second city). My capital is bullet proof at the moment. There is 1 axe directly N of my second city (wounded chariot has 79% chance of killing it). The two units NW of my 2nd city are an axe and a Q (79% again from the chariot. Those units moved directly S which (if I was Sullla you would get a smoke smilie here) - they should have moved SW to further threaten any worker / warrior withdrawal.
My units on the copper are my 2 workers and 1 escort warrior.
Here is my thinking if the war continues ...
Move my eastern chariot 2 tiles W
kill the axe with the Q
attack the Q with one of my warriors (32% chance of victory)
kill the Q with another of my warrior
No copper pillage or worker issues then.

Wow.
So to summarise their e-mail:
Quote:Er, this war isn't going as well as we thought it would so we want peace ... but we're going to make some demands first. Then we'll threaten you for a while. But we really want Peace, honest!
And then that stuff about killing your Workers is just stoopid ... like even if you can't kill his units you're not going to move them out of the way!?
Do JANK have any allies that you know of? Otherwise they're just blustering in your face and blindly ignoring the fact that you have allies who have already come to your aid ... doesn't sound like sound negotiating skills to me.
If it was me I might have accepted a white peace from them ... but not after that e-mail and chat exchange! Reparations are definitely the order of the day now imo.

they do have allies - as I understand it. Their next door neighbour (on the far side) ... Aggressive Rome! However, if one of your team mates had bungled a war this badly, would you be rushing to help them out?
