WW #41. New Horizons.

The day was, as expected, a long and very tense experience. Everyone on the current waking shift had been working together for four years in preparation for this journey. They, along with the Captain, had worked, played, griped, and joked together. They were family in every sense other than blood. But now they knew that there was a wolf in their midst, likely more than one. Years of trust disappeared in an instant, replaced by a visceral fear of death, and even worse, of failure in their mission to safeguard ten thousand of Earth’s greatest minds, the very real future of humanity on a distant star.
Still, despite the pressure, the crew tried to do what they were trained to do above all else, work together to solve problems. This was complicated early by the admission of Rowain that his desires did not necessarily align with that of the rest of the crew. His claim that he still wanted to stop the Earth First Liberationists combined with the outing of his own status caused some degree of chaos within the discussion that dominated the first day. Some called for his death, as a known individual who did not have the same goals as the rest of the crew, while others felt he deserved more time to be analyzed, rather than killing him for his honesty. Novice spent his day aggressively pursuing lines of question against various members of the crew. Armed with the claim that he was seeking the “scum” that would dare threaten his crew and his charges, he sent probing questions into many involved in the conversation, and some that barely spoke. Early on in the day, this earned him no small amount of angst, as he appeared to be only microns away from being discharged of his duties, permanently. Despite that, at the end of the day, the votes moved in another direction. Somewhat ironically, that direction was one Novice spent the majority of the day aimed in. It was BRickAstley that ended up as one of the two with the most votes at the end of the day. Despite being tied with AdrienIer, the computer placed priority on Brick due to the final vote for him being locked in earlier than the final vote for Adrien. As the clock counted down to zero, everyone waited, tensely, contemplating what they had done. As the clock struck zero, claxon’s sounded, and with a puff of air, BRick was pushed off into the void. Shortly after separation, the master computer transferred all databases from BRick’s pod. Despite his silence throughout the day, a quick analysis of his activities left the crew with only a single simple observation. BRick was a dedicated crew member. They had killed an innocent man. Night fell aboard ship, and the crew was left to contemplate their actions. BRickAstley has been lynched. He was a Human Expansionist League member. Night one begins.
Oh well. For reference, here's the final tally:
Lynch votes 4 votes: BRickAstley (novice, AdrienIer, Lewwyn, zakalwe) 4 votes: AdrienIer (Goreripper, Bacchus, Rowain, Serdoa) 1 votes: novice (BRickAstley) 1 votes: Rowain (Gazglum) Voting history:
I have to run.
Oh yeah! Thanks Novice, I forgot to throw that in. Did I mention the wife kept me up really late? I had to reread the last two pages four times to make sure I wasn't lynching the wrong person.
GG Brick. Sorry that happened to you, hope you get some time to relax and enjoy the proceeds of the yard sale now.
That was a pretty lame lurker lynch. I think Serdoa summed it up well in his post. I think there was a better case on Adrien, as Bacchus summarised, and I have town leans on Serdoa and Bacchus who voted him. So maybe I owe Rowain another apology. Gentlemen, let us retire to our hackstations. |
