[SPOILERS]PB34:Burnin' Daylight - DMOC/gsorel/Ichabod

gsorel, I reviewed your entire micromanagement plan and I think it's great. (I like the workers roading the forested copper by Rough Romance, then chopping the capital's forests, then going back to mining the forested copper.) I'm impressed that you're using the no-city growth option. I never understood how to use that, along with how to optimize growth with granaries. I just have a habit of chopping and whipping granaries as soon as possible.

Some random comments:

1. We'll be settling a lot of cities ... 6 cities on turn 56 is already faster than usual and we'll probably get our eighth citiy at around t65 when we take into account the pigs/copper/clam site south of the capital and one other city by Borsche's land. Will we be able to afford all of this? lol At least getting that pigs/copper/clam site means we might work a few cottages down there. But improving and connecting that fur should be a high priority.

2. I'd hold off on settling the silk/deer/fish site that's in between Rough Romance and The Longest Day. A city south to counter DTG/pickle would probably be a higher priority, and we need to assume they'll try and harass us with some military eventually. In fact, I think the only "filler" city I'd want right now is that pigs/copper/clam. The other two (that are highlighted on the map) can wait.

3. (Minor) On t53, the capital's forest chop should contribute +20 hammers, not +32 as stated in the micro.

4. (Minor) I thought forts only acted as canals if they were adjacent to water, so that "canal" over south by DTG/pickle-land, one of those blue circles doesn't seem like it would be a valid canal.

5. (Minor) If we ever want to try our hand at a wonder (or even a national wonder) we can save forests in Borsche's capital for that purposes. That's more long-term, but something to think about.

I'll try to get up a grand strategy post. I do agree that we will have to pull off some tricks in order to afford all these great cities.

Agreed that we should delay this city. Notable, however, since workers A,B can do some prep work on their way through.

+32 with imp bonus.

You're right; I don't know why I thought that was a valid canal fort. It can go east on the grasshill.

We are definitely on the same page on this one. In fact, those forests are one of my favourite things about taking Borsche's cap. Worker micro will be directed to prepping that site for a wonder.

chumchu is still investing all EP's in us.

Since I was curious about maintenance, here is a spreadsheet we can use to predict the cost of new cities.

More reasonable than I thought. Civic costs not included since that's linear - like 1g per city or something?

that is indeed the reason Gawdzak quit, he said so in the tech thread.

Hey guys, I'll change to global lurking now. I think I don't add anything to your game plan and, frankly, I don't think the game will last much more (people will concede/quit).

Good luck!

Well, he said so implicitly by saying he thought "city gifting was illegal" but never said that he was quitting (directly).

Just to be clear, if I were in his position, I would be very tempted to do the same thing myself, so I'm not mad (or frustrated) at all. I can imagine it would be hard for another team to stay motivated if they've seen another team get so far ahead at such little cost. There's still a lot of the game to be played, though, and many teams can (and should) be able to catch up to us.

I also want to point out, however, that I suggested in the tech thread that Borsche get another turn player on his team, so it wasn't like we were actively encouraging him to mail it in.

Ultimately this is part of what happens in Pitboss, and a weakness of multiplayer since people have vastly different time commitments.

Thanks for letting us know, Ichabod, and also thanks for giving us some advice early on the game.

I'll go with whatever the majority says though.

I'm actually wondering, who is the "other" team that he thinks is winnable? (I'm obviously assuming he thinks we're one of the two "winnable" teams.) I should also add, Nicolae Carpathia is playing in Pitboss 35 so he may already be dedicating most of his resources there.

Regarding DTG's reload request, I'm fine with requesting one. Gsorel, do you know what mistake DTG did? It looks like he founded a city this turn (his third) but I'm 99% sure his "mistake" has to do with not being able to defend himself versus our (soon to be shock-promoted) impi there.

Edit: I should also add, what's happening with "The Longest Day" now that the ikhanda is finished. Do you want to slow-build a workboat? Then whip worker later?

Not sure, but I also suspected it had something to do with garrisoning the cap which is why I broke my vow of silence in the tech thread.

I see no advantage in taking piddly potshots at Mr. Pickle, but I certainly would take a 90% chance to burn a neighbour's size 5 capital.

I forgot to mention that Pickle declared war on Elkad at some point.

It look like Elkad thought DTG's reload request had to do with something near his side, but GermanJoey said otherwise. So yeah, it was probably something to do with defending the capital.

It's been a quiet last few days due to various pauses and two reload requests. How have things been going? From the scores on CivStats, it unfortunately looks like we couldn't raze DTG's capital.
