Mr Cairo is not advancing. I presume he will once his last unit is healed, or else why leave these guys in my territory? meanwhile, he's pillaging tiles that will be his when he takes my cap, which seems pointless.

I actually switched to Bureau and Hereditary rule, which I need very badly, because I've whipped so heavily

One other interesting thing: pindicator rolled the turn, but did not play right away. He waited until after MrCairo , me and Jowy did. He doesn't border me or Jowy, but he does border MrCairo. I think pindicator may be looking at an attack on MrCairo while he's trying to eat me.

MrCairo moved back. I guess he realizes I must have a bunch of cats - perhaps with a spy or something - or maybe he realized I've been whipping like hell.

I can kick the ass of his current stack, but if he reinforces with rifles, it will be tough. I might have to reach out. Bummer - I was really hoping to hit him in my territory, but he never took that step.

Because my exit from this game is fully foretold in the heavens, I've been trying to figure out what went wrong, because a lot went wrong. I think fundamentally, this was a case of:

1) Poor expansion
2) Barbs
3) Poor use of traits
4) Waffling

I have complained about the map, and I think the map is an issue, but I think it's less than those other things.

1) My expansion sucked. There are 2 major issues: I should sent a settler to B (the fish/iron site) either 1st or 2nd - given my scouting, 2nd. And I should have founded Deck on the hill, not on the stone. I jinned up a sim and ran it out to about turn 70 and I had 4 cities by then, same as normal, but they all had infrastructure and were size 4 and I was going to get more. I figure I had food bonuses for 10 cities, and sites for 2 or 3 more that would not have food bonuses, but would specials or at least farms for whipping. With construction, I could whip out an army in like 3 turns and hit Mjmd - or gone HBR for speed.
2) I didn't barb bust at all and the axes potentially could have caused issues.
3) I tried using charismatic to get big. What I should have done was use to it to whip the hell out of my cities, build an army and then get to HR to deal with the unhappiness.
4) I went to attack Jowy, and the switched to Mjmd and then back to Jowy and then I eventually threw away an attack army against Charriu.

The map had issues, ivory being the big one, but overall, I don't think it was bad. My thought was that I got kind of screwed with a lack of rivers and having no corn, wheat or pig, with others getting easy riverside corn for a 2nd city, but I'm not really that upset anymore. I think I had more natural land to expand into and I think I had at least as much actual food as the others.

The disadvantage of putting up a serious fight is that you end up kind of screwed, because there isn't a lot you can do, but it's hard to conquer you unless the other guy has a major tech advantage, and MrCairo does not and no one else wants to come in and take me. Not sure my MjMd didn't, but Jowy is busy nibbling Charriu and getting indigestion.

Now it seems like I enter the terribly boring part of the game, where I'm too strong to be conquered and not strong enough to take back my cities or to really do anything very interesting at all.

I'll try - MrCairo has sentries out on my hills, watching my cap, and I plan on hitting them, but it's a huge pain the ass.

That said, OH declared on Mjmd, so that may be interesting.

Interesting. Mjmd took a couple of cities off of OH and then they took peace.

Right now, I have no idea who is going to win this, except that it's not going to be me.

I still think OH is the best player in the game.
I think Mjmd SHOULD win it - I think he's probably got the strongest late game trait.
I think Jowy could win it - he's got useful traits and should be able to take out Charriu.
I think MrCairo could win, but he needs to get off his butt and kill me to do so.

I guess I'd go 30% OH, 25% Mjmd and 22% each of the other guys, with 1% to me (cause, who knows)

MrCairo asked for peace. I said no. I suppose I might give him peace if he walks away from my cities, but screw that otherwise. As far as I am concerned, he can choke on weariness.

He also has a super trireme. I've hit it with 3 so far, the last one at 97% odds.

I've killed the units he left in my lands.

So, I'm kind of an idiot.

Some turns ago, Mjmd took my island city, Bomber. I wanted it back. It's guarded by a C2 knight. So said "self, a pike can kill a knight", so I loaded a pike and a LB onto a galley and i went to kill this knight.

Many of you just winced.

Pike on C2 knight defending an amphi invasion is like 30%. the pike died without hitting the knight. (I, of course, assuming that this was nothing, didn't look at the odds and then didn't look to see what the odds of a LB attacking the obviously heavily wounded knight were).

So, I threw away a perfectly good pike and LB. *sigh*

I'm taking Deck back next turn, btw.

I have a massive stack and he does not have a massive stack defending it.

Or he has a massive stack in reserve and he's going to massacre my massive stack, I dunno. If he does, it'll still cause a lot of weariness.

Well, that worked out poorly.

Looks like I handed my civ over to MrCairo due to not really caring about the game.

to be more precise, he had a big ass stack behind deck which he used to hit my stack and do a lot of damage. I tried to use my cats to do a lot of damage to his guy, but never could get odds on his top defenders, so I wasted a lot of catapults. He's got a lot of weariness, I guess.

But I'll fall reasonably soon with no catapults.
