RBP3 [Spoilers] Capac of Mali

I was thinking NE-NE to get onto those hills, and see what we can see.

The hills in our 2nd ring should give us some decent line of sight to the east, west & south (I think). If we see something interesting, we can cut back through Sirian to investigate.

Mortius got killed around T10 didn't he? I don't think we'll be much more crowded than that.

NE-NE sounds good to me. I think we're done with our moves for turn 0 so if you get a chance you can log in and end turn.

Turn ended.

Warrior moved NE, revealing a grass river tile, and turn ended. Bleeding indicates that there may be a flood plain on the river. Will take a screenshot next turn when we climb the hill.

I loaded up a couple of Team Battleground maps to make a test game, and they seemed eerily similar to the PB3 start: a capital with river, plenty of hills, but the immediate surrounds lack food specials. There were also odd, small pockets of desert, like the one 2SE of our centre tile. The big difference is the amount of land tiles: 2800ish on TB, and 4047 on this map. Although that sounds vast, with 17 of us playing it leaves a mere 238 land tiles per team.

Other remarks from the opening turn: 5 teams moved the settler on T0 (Jowy hadn't played) and of these Morgan has ended T1 without settling (ad hoc yet to end turn).

I've simmed an opening of worker (Agri) warrior (AH) settler (BW) that gets the settler done on T35 and BW on T36. The alternative would be go Agri-BW-AH and chop the settler, but I haven't had the chance to sim this yet.

I think Agri->BW will get a Settler done on turn 36 (2 chops and then double-whipped).

Floodplains ahoy!

wow with floodplains and hills looks like a good production site. I think Agri first then BW may be the way to go. Need to see metal that is most important I think. That and with floodplains whipping may be key.

I think we can go either way with the FP site: settle on the plains hill 2N of the sheep for production, or on the grass river tile 2N of the silver for a commerce city. Moved NE to reveal more hills & forest:

Borders will pop in 2 turns, so we can be conservative and move SE then SW, or keep exploring (e.g. E-SE), or something in the middle (E-S). I favour E-S: there doesn't seem to be much food in this area, though I hope moving E will tell us for sure, so it might be more worthwhile to head back through Sirian to investigate the flatlands to our S & W.

I should be able to sim the Agri-BW-AH option tonight.

OK, so I ran the Agri-BW sim and got the settler out on T35. Comparing the two options at T35 gives us the following:

Agr-BW

Sirian: size 2, farmed rice, farm river grass, road on sheep. Training worker: 0/60 , 31 hammers/food [24 whip overflow] due in 6; warrior queued (11/15). 1 rant (10 turns).

Units: 2 warriors, worker (on sheep), settler (city square).

Techs: Wheel, Mining, Agri, BW. AH in 4 (126/180).

Agr-AH

Sirian: size 3, farmed rice, river grass mine (roaded), pastured sheep, either 5 turns roading to 2nd city, or grass river farm. Training settler: 94/100 , 11 hammers/food, due in 1.

Units: 2 warriors, worker.

Techs: Wheel, Mining, Agri, AH. BW (186/216) due in 2.
