Still have limited time to post, but here's a screenshot of copper in my capital. Just finished Bronze working and about to finish my second worker.

Quote:Greetings Esteemed Kyan,
It appears one of our scouting parties hath drunkenly stumbled upon Mayan lands, I hope they have not mistakenly offended any of your customs! I would like to extend my warm welcomes and look forward to many years of cooperation between our great (Albeit small and barbaric) nations.
-- Strike
The warrior that headed out west found the edge of Kyans borders this turn, so i fired off a little hello message.
If the distance between our capitals is any indication there is quite a bit of space between civs. There is easily room for 6-7 citys. Is that about normal for a RB MP Game?
Sorry about the lack of updates I'll try to get to a big update tomorrow, with all the land I've scouted, there is some pretty great city sites around.

It varies a lot. There's a huge difference between Pitboss 1 and 2, for example.

Alright, as an attempt to get back to updating here is the same dilpo messages you're all reading in Kyan's thread!
Quote:Strike,
I can honestly say i'm delighted to have met you. As you will, one day (hopefully not soon!), read in my thread, i was hoping to have you as a neighbour. I'm a genuine believer that diplomacy is as huge a factor in these games as pure civ skill and as such my goal coming into this game was to try and find at least one civ to forge close ties with. Perhaps, in time, we could explore down that avenue further...
For now, I am a disadvantage as you have met me and yet i have no idea where you are hehe. My best guess is that you're to my east. I've hypothesised regarding the map layout in my thread and believe the map will almost certainly be set out in one of the two combinations:
CIV..................CIV......................CIV
...........Inland Sea...............
CIV..................CIV......................CIV
OR
.........CIV......................CIV...........
CIV.........Inland Sea.......CIV
.........CIV......................CIV...........
I share this with you as i have very little else to offer at this time. I can confirm though that i am on the western edge of the world. Which, if you are to my east, would lead me to believe that the first map is more likely.
Might i be so forward as to ask how far apart our civs are? Ensuring a fair sectioning of land is key to friendship i think - just look at Babylon and Mali in PB3.
Yours,
Kyan
Followed by my reply of:
Quote:Kyan,
That's actually quite the coincidence because if you had the chance to read my thread i said many of the same things! We're definately on the same page with thoughts toward diplomacy.
My warrior is actually two tiles off your eastern border. and I am indeed east of you. However with what i know of the world I actually think your 2nd map is the more likely one since i can see water and it curves up and to the right near my capital. I haven't reached the eastern edge of the world yet, but i haven't scouted out very far as of yet.
You may be so forward and I fully agree with you on the fair sectioning, there is about 23-24 tiles between our capitals near as I can tell. Plenty of room for a fair setup.
I gave him quite a bit of information here, but I am genuainly interested in creating long term a long term friend out of Kyan. There is a narrow(but long) section of land between our civs and there does not appear to be any other claims to it. If we can settle in opposite directions at least to start we could easily end up claiming quite a big chunk of the total land between us.

He emailed me this morning with a message that is going to go along ways to cementing our friendship.
Quote:Hail and well met!
Thanks for the prompt reply. Would you prefer to be referred to as Strike or Brandan? Or perhaps something more elaborate? Supreme Emperor? No, wait, that's just whosit... hehe
I'm glad to hear we have loads of room. I am scouting that area myself currently though it would appear my scouting isn't as advanced as your own.
I've got two bits of info for you so far:
Firstly, i haven't met anyone else yet. Rest assured though, that the moment i do, i'll make you aware of their prescence (and them of yours if you so desire) and am happy to engineer meets and the like.
Secondly, at LEAST my first city will be not even slightly in your direction (Will be further away from you than my capital)
Obviously, with so much land between us, it's not going to be a huge deal and no pink dots will be required or single player style land-grabs. I'd just rather communicate about anything outside of the obvious 'first ring' of cities surrounding the capital. Well, those towards each other anyhow.
As a cornerstone for our, hopefully, continued friendship i'd like to offer at least a NAP for now. Perhaps something like 20turns upfront and auto-renewing with a ten turn cooldown? I'm happy with whatever figures you are comfortable with. I am totally genuine about my initial message looking for a long-term ally and feel we could prove deadly if working in such a fashion.
This would allow us to focus our defences on one flank and we have plenty of land to expand into. God knows that Cathy and Pacal do SO love expanding hehe. Perhaps something akin to Ruff/Dreylin in pbem1 although that kind of bond is a long way away. I understand you're likely super hesitant to get into anything this tight knit from the get-go but i'd rather air the thought at least.
Yours,
Kyan
This is more than i had hoped for, it takes quite a load of my mind.
I logged into to reply to the email and he jumps me in chat within seconds. I found out later why he was so eager lol.
Quote:Kyan: Aloha!
me: Hola
Kyan: you have some time pal?
me: Sure
10:23 AM Kyan: cool. i'm not overly fond of email. MUCH prefer chat so feel free to ping me anytime
don't suppose you've read my reply? Only just sent it to be fair
me: Read it on my phone earlier, was just logging in to reply lol
Kyan: ah hehe
10:24 AM damn my impatience note to self: sit on hands and give the man five damn minutes in future!
10:25 AM me: No worries, I can repy lin chat form just as easily
reply*
Kyan: yeah, so i kinda laid my eggs out there in one big Chinese basket
me: Which is quite the relief since now i don't have to
10:26 AM we definately seem to be on the same page here
10:27 AM With all the room between us if we land grab away from each other we could both end up with quite a few more cities than some of the other teams
well not teams
players
10:28 AM Kyan: indeed
well, i've explored north a decent amount
im happy to put my first 3 cities north. Well, the third is north-east but not by any significant amount
10:29 AM me: I have barely started exploring to my east, but from looking at the terrain between us i expect to find ample suitable city sites
10:30 AM Kyan: i've not seen too much just yet as initial warrior went north before bending round east
the land is generally immense though so it's all good
me: My first city goes northwest just a tad to pull in some furs
10:31 AM Kyan: sounds good. my one in your direction would be for the exact same purpose
me: mirrored starts maybe?
Kyan: it would be using the furs/wheat to your warriors NW
ha, let me guess
you started on a plains hill
and had the choice to settle for hammer
or move for another food?
me: Lmao!
10:32 AM Kyan: figures. It's actually great design
cos the always war vets can have their hill
and i'll take all the food for my fat Mayans thanks very much
10:33 AM me: lol
both have stone in the 5th ring too
Kyan: to be honest, it could be that the hill would be better, but after the babylon mess of a start i just wanted some damned food lol
10:34 AM me: I ended up taking the hill
Kyan: hmm, good to know. whats the odds half the world has marble 5th ring?
me: my cap's bfc is almost entirely plains hills and plains tiles
Kyan: it is? :O
me: and a peak
Kyan: hmm
10:35 AM an edited start then
probly to give us more room
me: most likely
Kyan: hmm, in that case i have a BIG nugget of info for you
you have copper in your BFC
10:36 AM me: i have bw already
thanks though
Kyan: ha. dammit
me:
Kyan: i'm not even pretending to do demographic analysis
i'll just do my thing and let my betters do all that hehe
10:37 AM me: All i've gleaned is that 2 other civs have found each other as well
Kyan: how'd you work that out?
me: Gnp jumped by 4 and I fell two ranks
10:38 AM rival best gnp*
Kyan: ahhh ok
10:39 AM hmm, if it helps your figures, i can give you my demo's?
if you just let me know of anything 'important' ?
me: that's actually the only thing i worked out
10:40 AM I have no idea how to tack production or do any of those crazy things
track*
Kyan: ah right, fair enough
10:41 AM can i consider the NAP signed by the way?
me: You may consider it so
Kyan: superb. You'll see why next turn
as i'm moving a worker next to your likely warrior position
10:42 AM me: lol, i thought it might be something like that
10:43 AM Kyan: to be honest, i didn't think you would do anything after your last email, but i would rather be safe than sorry
you watch, we'll make all these plans and find someone slightly to the south between us and mess up the whole plan as he snaps up all the land
10:44 AM me: you see my warrior?
Kyan: yep
me: the edge of the world is 6 tiles south of him
Kyan: ...
me: 6 or 7
Kyan: hahaha
so the one tile of fog to my capitals south
10:45 AM is actually it
me: most likely
Kyan: well, i have a frustratingly placed silver tile then
me: with a sheep nearby?
Kyan: it's in the corner of the map
i haven't seen a sheep but i havent checked that one row out yet
the tile is 1 above it in the south west
10:46 AM me: ouch
my silver tile is towards you
Kyan: oh well, at least i can hook it up via creative borders for at least the happy for now
that's fine mate. grab it
10:47 AM do what you need to do to get your civ flying
i'll assist in anyway i can
maybe we can get some settler/worker trades going on later or something
might not ever be feasible due to distance i spose tho
10:49 AM sorry about that. my chat disconnects occasionaly. However, it's time i got changed anyway. Got a 'work party' tonite
should be .. yeah
10:50 AM me: have fun with that, hehe
Kyan: take care mate and nice chatting to you. Glad we're on the same lines, reading the same book, writing similarly cheesy cliché's
The NAP was to protect his worker (Not that i would have attacked it anyway), but i think its in my best interests as well. I plan to follow Sulla's advice about signing too many NAP's, but this one i expect to last for many many Centuries.

An update?
ORLY?
YARLY!
Here's a picture of the capital. Going to finish a settler this turn. There's one forest chopped into overflow which will go into granary when pottery completes next turn.
Here's a pic of the land around my capital, it looks pretty good. The settler will go to the coast up near the horses and furs.
Here's a pic of the land between Kyan's and my capital. Lots of good land, i think the only possibly contested place is the gold horses location in the center.
And a pic of the G3 summit near kyan's capital.
Here's a dumb question, how do you create signs? I can't seem to figure it out.

Some diplomacy developed with cull
Quote:Hola Cull,
It appears my scouting warrior has stumbled upon a conference between you and Kyan, hopefully I'm not intruding! I look forward to many years of peace with the Ottoman nation,
Strike of China
Quote:Strike,
I would love to continue along peacefully. May I ask where you are on the Inland Sea? Right next to Kyan, or even beyond?
Cull of Ottomans
Which led to this chat, I hope i managed to wiggle out of a longterm NAP without seeming to shifty.
Quote:10:57 AM Cull: hi
me: Hola
10:58 AM Sorry bout that last message, my scribe has been summarily whipped
hehe
Cull: lol
Have you met any other civs yet?
me: Just Kyan, i haven't explored terribly far to my east
10:59 AM you?
Cull: i'm just directly north of Kyan
i've meet kyan
you
and seifer
actually he met me
just last turn
are you just east of Kyan?
11:00 AM me: east but quite aways
Cull: interesting
are you interested in exchanging info?
such as meeting civs and such
11:01 AM most likely actually just when and which civ we meet
me: yeah that sounds agreeable
11:02 AM Cull: great
me: may i ask where seifer is in relation to you?
Cull: I honestly don't know
i know east
11:03 AM but all we've exchanged is
him saying hi
me saying hi
basically
me: ah, i gotcha hehe
11:04 AM Cull: We are relativly far away and have no reason to fight.
NAP maybe?
11:06 AM me: something we can look at for sure
11:07 AM Cull: don't why to tie you up in diplo deals
want
not why
11:08 AM me: just trying to explore the world before i get into a bunch of deals.
Cull: same
don't even have half the map done
11:09 AM me: how about a 20 turn NAP non recurring so we can renegotiate when we see more of the map?
Cull: non recurring?
11:10 AM not really good with english
so um
non recurring is just like a flat deal
?
right?
me: yeah
20 turn nap with an agreement to renegotitate.
Cull:
11:11 AM A bit of a nitpick point right now, but what do you think is in a NAP?
me: no idea
that's why they scare me lol
Cull: same
in rbp3, we met our first civ
11:12 AM and I was so freaked out by sigining NAPs
some think gifting units is okay
as well as rite of passage of enemy units
but right now for us, it doesn't really matter
11:13 AM me: so how about 20 turns of not declaring war or stealing workers with scouting units?
11:14 AM Cull: yeah
in general, act in good faith is what i do
me: sounds good
11:16 AM Cull: too lazy to check, and forgot
who is your leader>
?
me: Pacal
of china
11:17 AM Cull: k thanks for the info
me: np
11:19 AM well i gotta get going, catch you later
Cull: see ya

Thanks bob.
Settler completes this turn, goes to found that first city to the NW. Think I might make a Stonhenge push. I have extra forests and stone nearby.
That whip overflow completes a granary in a single turn, gotta love expansive!
Worker started a cottage on the FP.

Founded Bejing this turn on the coast next to the horses.
Then had me a little chat with Kyan:
Quote:3:54 PM Kyan: ha nice timing pal
3:55 PM me: Hehe, were you about to leave?
Kyan: yeah, was gonna check pc at midnight before bed
3:56 PM might be worth seeing if we can get all people together for a 'blitz' session at some point
me: Last couple days I've been watching the computer and have missed you with the save by as little as 30 minutes
Kyan: even if we can get 5 or so turns in, would be nice to catch up with vets
ha, always the war
*way
ive been playing before work rather than after recently
3:57 PM but at least we're getting thru the turns
me: Sometimes Cull gets it to me at 6 am sometimes at 3-4 in the afternoon
its kind of random
I'd be down for a blitz session, I can usually play at any of the Euro times
Kyan: yeah, i kinda figured it was cull's end where the problem lied
3:59 PM me and cull have come to a border agreement now. he tried to offer one that was significantly closer to my land than his allowing him a lot more room and i pretty much told him to bugger off. but he's playing nice now lol.
4:00 PM me: how far are your capitals apart?
Kyan: want a map?
4:01 PM me: Sure
4:02 PM Kyan: http://i849.photobucket.com/albums/ab54/...evised.png
the doodles were cull's offer and my counter-offer
he wanted the black line of tiles and everything above
eventually we agreed not to settle the wrong side of the red line
4:03 PM which i may abuse to nick both dyes
you may not have one in your direction so a spare of any happiness resources could definitely be handy
4:04 PM me: I don't but I do have double spices
Kyan: hmm, that reads slightly wrongly. by abuse, i dont mean violate the treaty but im creative and my culture is likely to nick the tile
me:
Kyan: nice. so a trade in the future probably then
me: you'd never do anything like that to me though now would ya :P
Kyan: we're allies
4:05 PM i can't be allies with everyone
i dont NEED a second dye. i'd be doing it to send one your way lol
me: Yeah Cull came by looking for a NAP
I got him to agree to a 20 turn no worker steal or walking in to abandoned cites nap (non-recurring)
4:06 PM I wasn't sure what your stance on cull would be
Kyan: nice. i agreed til turn 60 for now
by that time i'll half filled my land on my side of that border
*have
4:07 PM guessing you still dont have contact with eastern neighbour?
me: nope
I have explorede of all 6 tiles east of me
4:08 PM Cull has contact with Seifer so its either Jowy or your buddy Malakai
Kyan: ha fair enough. might be worth rushing a city that way. they cant complain if you 'didnt know they were there'
hmm, those are two vastly different proposals
4:09 PM jowy has war chariots
whilst malakai is completely new
just for the record, malakai is a guy from my office that i found out plays civ as he saw me looking on RB on my lunch
we're not on same team or talk particularly. In fact, even less now as we can't talk game until contact
4:10 PM me: Oh that makes me feel so much better
I figured you guys would be hadcore allies for this game
hardcore*
was a little worried about being sandwhiched between you guys
4:11 PM Kyan: nah, nothing of sort
in fact, i'm more likely to attack him than anyone else
purely as he know he's SO in experienced
4:12 PM he'd only played one single player game all the way thru before he signed up
me: he's next to jowy, he'll probably get ate alive
jowy likes to war eaerly
Kyan: tho he did tell me he was going to be practising a lot and reading up
yeah, for sure
hmm, if Jowy is your neighbour
4:13 PM i think we'll have to secure NAPs with cull
and i'll ferry some holkans over to you if his power starts going crazy
4:15 PM me: sounds like a good plan
Kyan: just let me know if you need the help
i'll keep demos on cull for now
4:16 PM can get your demo's later, for now i want to prioritise a neighbour that might actually attack me
tho cull is certainly NAP friendly
4:19 PM me: I didn't know english was a 2nd language for him either
4:20 PM Turn has been uploaded
Kyan: yeah, i think maniac mentioned that to me in PB3
he's quite young as well
goes to school anyhow
4:22 PM me: that would make sense
http://img809.imageshack.us/img809/4348/...ot0016.jpg
4:23 PM Figure i should return the favor

Kyan: ah cool
Grats on Beijing
4:24 PM me: Thanks
Kyan: early port city as well. i don't foresee one of those soon so i will have to rely on you to dominate the seas early game hehe
wouldnt surprise me for there to be an island or something in the middle of the inland sea
me: That's what I'm hoping to beat everyone to
plus it gets me horses
4:25 PM Kyan: indeed
ha that gold is exactly equidistant from us both
me: I know right lol
speaker the little punk
Kyan: in fact i think its 1 tile nearer you because i moved my capital one tile west to begin with
4:26 PM yeah, he hasnt done it with me and cull tho
but that strikes (wahey) me as too coincidental
maybe there's one between every group of pairs
i.e. one between cull and x and so on
me: it would just like him to create some tension like that
4:27 PM The dyes thing could be it on your side
since too much culture and you steal your neighbours dye
Kyan: yeah that's true
i reckon you got a mildly better deal of the middle ground
4:28 PM a bid wedge of crapland directly east of my cap
with that plains
4:30 PM me: possibly
Kyan: hmm, you didnt block off your research from viz which im gonna take as a sign of trust rather than forgetfulness
me: Should I have? I didn't even consider it
4:31 PM Kyan: not at all
just wondered if you wanted to discuss techs/wonders at all?
i understand if not as it's highly sensitive
me: Well i can't tell you long term plans since I don't know them myself atm lol
4:32 PM Kyan: ha fair enough
ok, ill be open
im soon to land polytheism, hopefully landing hinduism, then building oracle
4:33 PM me: are you the one who started with mysticism?
Kyan: nope, i SHOULD have, but didnt
i got agri/wheel rather than mining/myst
me: I was thinking of trying for stonehenge
I'll be able to hook up stone soon then was going to chop it out
Kyan: ah well, as creative and after a religion, you have no competition from me there
4:34 PM i have stone in my 3rd ring but cant really send it this early
always available to lend later tho once it's hooked up
me: I have sotne in my 2nd ring
Kyan: (i dont have masonry)
ah right hehe
4:35 PM me: I'm up a couple workers probably since I get them cheaper
they're kind of bored right now lol
4:36 PM Kyan: i have 2 currently, 3rd next turn and 4th in 5 more turns
4:37 PM i dont have any roads really yet so they can at least do that
me: cool
Kyan: but, to be fair, this is one of the best capital sites i've ever had
4:38 PM in terms of food and production anyhoo
me: man, i was hoping everyones was rough like mine
no offense
4:39 PM Kyan: ha none taken
i have riverside grass hills, riverside grass hill copper, irrigated corn, riverside grassland cows, floodplain and rest is riverside grass...
4:40 PM me: dang......
Kyan: its nuts
me: I have grassland pigs (not riverside)
4:41 PM plains copper
3 riverside grassland hills
2 fp's
6 regular plains tiles
4:42 PM the 4 grassland and 1 non grassland hill and 1 plains hill
4:43 PM Kyan: hmm
i definitely got lucky then
4:48 PM me: whelp i gotta run, thanks for chatting
Kyan: ok mate, just updating my thread then bed anyhoo. nite buddy
me: See ya
Made some real progress towards becoming real allies I think. Told me he is teching the Oracle, showed me the deals he made with cull and even talked about trying to steal a resource from cull for the sole purpose of trading it with me!
Sent him a map of the lands between us just to see how he'd attack the gold in the center, didn't want to hammer anything out till i see more of the land between us.
