[PBEM9 - SPOILERS] Pacal of the Ottoman Empire

Ok ... so i've missed an update.

We are currently on Turn 6. I moved Cheetarah to the west along the hills.

What has Jowy built for us here duh

One minute I think we are all on our seperate island and then I reveal more land and get concerned about moving Cheetarah too far from home. Then on the following turn it looks like an island again!

I think I will risk moving Cheetarah SW and back round the South over the coming turns. Lets just hope no-one comes up from the south.smoke

Ok update on my C&D. Average soldiers increased on T4&5. mackoti moved up to 41 like me. I think he discovered hunting that turn too which increased the average soldier count.

Ruff and Sylon moved up to 41 on T5. It has to be a non soldier point tech. Fishing should have come in sooner so i'm guessing agriculture or mining for them.

New turn in. No7. No piccies this time as not much different from the last one.

Cheetarah moved SW onto the GH. Mountain passage blocking the SW further but I can swing round SE and go from there.

Cats Lair : Worker due in 6 turns.
Tech: Mining due in 4.

I can reduce the tech down by 1 turn but increase the worker by 2 by switching from working the 3h FGH tile to the furs.

I think sticking to as is, is the best option for now and getting the worker out ASAP.

It's taking a while for Kodii to increase his score - I am guessing they have gone for BW from the off.

Turn 8 played. Map wise nothing much more to report than what you can see in the above screenie. Moving Cheetarah SE reveals what looks like more mountains to the SW of her. banghead

One other thing I noticed this turn Whats with the forested mountain?? Never seen one of them before. rolleye

Still teching mining and building a worker ready to irrigate the corn.

No change in points or demographics this turn, and the log hasn't revealed any declarations or wonders built as yet. jive

I don't particularly want to go wonder hogging but I am thinking the Great Lighthouse could be useful on this map. No doubt this has already been pointed out by a fair few if not all of my competitors already.

Turn 9 completed.

Photobucket is currently down banghead, so I will try and upload the latest map screenie but to be honest shows very little more to the one you already have above.

After hitting end turn:

Worker from Cats Lair due in 3 turns
Mining due in 1 turn

Development from a C&D perspective this turn was that mackoti had a point increase of 6 taking them to 47 and point leader. Average soldier count has increased from 5000 to 5500 points too so I am pinning mackoti down as getting mining this turn.

Turn 10 completed.

Barbs are appearing. Moving Cheetarah further down south she stumbles across a panther sw across the river.

Mining completes and my soldier score increases by 2k. Onto BW next and the worker due in 2 turns.

I am getting slightly concerned now about moving Cheetarah too far away from my capital as it is undefended. Those mountains seem to give so maybe there is a way down south, or am I coming to the southern section of my own personal island huh

Coming to a point where I am going to have to start thinking long and hard about a dot map. Is it the BUG mod that does the nice fancy dot maps or is it something else? Also, am I allowed to run that mod to do the dot maps or should I stick to the good old fashioned lines on Paint that get me really frustrated when they dont go where I want them to?

Well full marks to Sandover for leaving a dangling carrot in front of me to go hunt down the forested mountain area of their thread lol.

I really wish I could remember what I have and have not read threadwise on these forums and even it's valuable content.

Anyway Sandover, from the parts I have read so far, it's a great read. :thumbs up:

Anyhow onto Turn 11.

The barb panther decided to not attack Cheetarah on the inter turn banghead and instead decided to head East forcing my hand to attack. I wanted to and at 75% odds on a low level I was tempted. But 75% is still 75% on any level and I really could do with not losing her early on so I moved Cheetara East opposite the Panther onto Jungle Grassland with 50% defense bonus. Maybe she will get attacked next move and make mincemeat out of the barb with better odds. rolleye

As mentioned last turn, mining now completed and BW started. 12 turns currently. Worker due in 2 turns.

I can reduce BW by 1 trun but increase the Worker turns up by 2 by selecting to work the Furs and not the Forested Plains Hill.

For now sticking to the worker is best I think.

No change in Points score this turn
Demographics wise. I have increased in GNP by 2 huh No idea why. I know culture has an effect on GNP maybe it's that but in reality that would be a pure guess.

Crop wise I am 4th. This is quite poor but I think this is all down to the fact that I am working a 3 hammer tile and this early on we are all probably trying to get a worker out ASAP.

I am 2nd in MFG. I am guessing that Sylon moved to a plains hill and is probably getting a bonus hammer in his capital??

Turn 12 complete.

Quite an eventful turn compared to the others this.

After sending the save to Kodii on Turn 11 I receive this through my email account:

Quote:Hello Pegasus!

I am pleased to make acquaintance with your fine Ottoman empire. I look forward to communication and well-being between our two nations.

We hope your warrior fares well against the jungle creatures in the vicinity!

- Kodii

And here was me thinking we were on seperate islands, maybe we are and we have been discovered via work boat bang

There was quite a delay on this turn in getting back to me, but I received the save through the night.

As you can see Waterfront has come from the South - so no seperate islands.

From the screenshot I have moved Cheetarah onto the Plains Hill to stay city side in case Kodii tries anything fancy and rushing for Cat's Lair (although they would still have to work out where it is I suppose). Still better safe than sorry, and hopefully it wouldnt even come to that. I can stump my growth too and get a warrior out early enough should an attack be imminent, but thats not the play I want to make.

Last turn we had an opportunity to take out a barb panther. So what happened to it? Has Waterfront dealt with it and taken away my xp's?

jivejivejive

Nope, it suicided against Cheetarah @ 0.5% odds and caused no damage at all. jive

Having assessed the situation, I felt I was in a position to reply to Kodii.

Quote:Greetings Kodii,

It is always a pleasure in making aquaintance with fellow fine empires such as the Malinese and I hope during this game we hold a long and lasting friendly relationship.

First of all, please accept my sincere apologies for not replying sooner, this was not intentional. With the game going as fast as it had over the past few turns I thought I would be able to see how we met in game before responding. Unfortunately this turn has taken a little longer than expected.

I would like to congratulate you on discovering BW. I hope the land provides you with plentiful resources in your opening research quest.

Cheetarah has found adequate resources so far and has stumbled on one nasty animal that she took care of in the last interturn. How has Waterfront found the terrain / barbs so far?

Kind Regards,

Pegasus

In hindsight, I think I should have responded sooner, but work was manic this week (especially these last few days), and I seriously did believe the turn would roll back round a lot sooner than it did.

First thoughts: I have no intention of going to war early on - unless it is a quick kill I do not see any benefit whatsoever.

However, I am up against a CIV who as a CRE backing and I need to be careful I do not got myself bottlenecked into the north.

If I run out of land, war could be my only option. Lets hope this scenario does not need to arise until later in the game. nono

Ok onto the C&D.

First things first. As from my reply, Kodii has shot up 6 points and soldier count average and best has gone from 5500 to 7500 and 10000 to 16000
It has to be BW.

Sylon too increased by 6 points this turn. I actually notice on my spreadsheet I don't have him down for anything, so for now I am going to pencil in Fishing and Agriculture as this does not affect soldier points.

Worker is now complete and will head over to the Corn next turn and start to irrigate the turn afterwards and then move over to the furs to build a camp. Cats Lair will go onto full growth mode whilst building a warrior for safety.

Actually thinking about it, I think there is a neat little trick here. Next turn I should move the worker 1E start a road and then cancel order. I can then move them onto Corn and irrigate the corn and I actually benefit from 1 turn of road completion. Lets see if I remeber this by the time the turn comes next. lol

Oh...and for those of you that are actually interested. I have uploaded my C&D sheet. By the way, any of you want to use it for recording in your games, feel free to use/adapt it.

The fact that nobody has commented on it must mean it's perfect right lol

Prerequisite bonus.
You know Mining, which is a prereq of BW, so you get a 20% bonus to the beaker count displayed in the top [strike]right[/strike] (sorry left).
