[Spoilers] Scraping the bottom of the barrel: Lurker's thread

FWIW, I'm not sure if you gave the settlers the starting settler bonus. If so, I think the Ljos and the Khazad's positions that if Ichabod moved his settler in the right way, he might be able to see the area where Mist settled his capital. I guess my point is, maybe just don't say anything else about it in the tech thread, unless you definitely didn't keep them that close together or definitely didn't give the starting settler promo.
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

For mist not having food, it's not that bad actually. Settling on Cow + 2 lighthouse Lakes will give him +3 food surplus, along with a few farms/Ancient Forests it'll soon be a strong capital (especially with triple dye + Plains incense!)

If Mist had settled 1 tile east he'd have corn, cow, incense, 2 dye and 3 less useless water tiles - the 3rd dye he'd give up compared to where he settled is even jungled.

If he settled 1E though he can't lighthouse for the 3-2 lakes. Although it's probably worth it with the extra cow, if there's a resource in the fogged tiles it's probably better.

I'll take the Corn now rather than the Lighthouse later. How's he going to keep up in Settler/Worker production?

Is Ichabod playing a farmer's gambit... near the DOVIELLO?

(those ice floodplains belong to the doviello, right?)

Something that I don't think the mapmakers considered is that those ice floodplains are somewhat of a hint that the Doviello are nearby. Thankfully Ichabod doesn't seem to have picked up on that.

Sareln Wrote:However, because I moved south and Mist presumably moved north, we are now quite close to each other. This is not an untenable situation, but it is definitely one where we are either going to be very good friends, or one of us is going to be dead very quickly lol. I would like to pursue the close-friends option, since the alternative would likely see me dead against an aggressive opponent.

The first order of business will be to decide what to do about the Broken Sepulcher. It is adjacent to Mist's borders, and only 2 square distant from my own. I think in this case any extreme-bad result has a 50/50 chance of either targeting Mist or myself. Combined with the chance for a good result, I think that the absolutely optimal short-term move is to pop the Broken Sepulcher myself. That way, a good result is to my benefit, and a bad result is 50/50 in whether it kills Mist or myself. There are a number of different possibilities for how the future of the Broken Sepulcher will play out:

  1. I pop the Broken Sepulcher
  2. Mist pops the Broken Sepulcher
  3. Someone else waltzes in and pops the Broken Sepulcher

Given the closeness of the start positions, I don't think that Mist or I, even if we could reach an agreement on the Sepulcher, could prevent a 3rd party from running in and popping it for mass death and destruction. Therefore, we should attempt to accrue the benefits to ourselves.

Or in fewer words, I'm going to gamble both Mist's and my own game on an epic lair pop on turn 7. alright Welcome to Fall from Heaven.

I wonder if Mist will want to be friends with Sareln if he pops the Sephulcher! lol

A choke on the Lanun is a silly idea, so Elimist needs to go for the kill here.

A choke on the Lanun is a silly idea because it is perfectly possible to not use an improved land tile for the first 90 turns of the game with absolutely no problems. In fact I'd be surprised if Bob's teching was even mildly disrupted.

Could get the kill though... Needs to get a little lucky.

I seem to have set a precedent for reckless early game lair exploration lol
