Mardoc Wrote:Other roles we could use:
Banter officer? Someone to out-Ichabod Ichabod, in whatever public thread we end up with.
Sandboxer. Make and keep up to date a sandbox, to help decide between alternate courses. Probably could use an assistant.
I think coming up with stuff for the banter should probably be a team effort.
We definitely should have someone to build and upkeep a sandbox. Good catch Mardoc

We're trying to recruit people after all, and a languishing thread won't do that

Or maybe this resource would also be useful.
Provided we're still in the game at that point, we're going to have to do something appropriately epic for International Talk Like A Pirate Day.

So, at this point, in terms of positions we have:
Captain (Primary Turnplayer) - Oledavy
Helmsman (Backup Turnplayer) - Shoot the Moon
Boatswain (C&D Master) - WarriorKnight
Bosun's Mate (C&D Assistant) - Mardoc
Sailing Master (Diplomacy Master) - Nakor
Navigator (Diplomacy Assistant) - ???
Quartermaster (Sandboxer) - ???
Carpenter (Sandboxing Assistant) - ???
I feel bad not having a Master Gunner Position, but I can't think of a role to match (though I briefly had our diplomacy team as gunners - conduct diplomacy with our cannon ). I've edited the first post to reflect your position if you've volunteered for a role; anyone who has not volunteered for anything is an Able Seaman (ded-lurker). Yes, I'm getting a little into this theme
On the whole, I think our team is strong in the micro department, but weak on the diplomatic angle. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think any of us are particularly strong at diplomacy. Getting Rego onboard for his diplomatic skill alone would be invaluable (or it might just backfire on us :neenernee). In the event we can't find someone to take on the role, one of us will have to step forward. Anyone feeling inclined thus far?
Also, there's talk about having everyone make a sales pitch for their team to be edited into the first post of the Discussion Thread. Someone care to make a recruitment poster/pitch for prospective crewmen?
If all else fails, we can always start impressing sailors

What are the requirements for a good diplomat. If its the ability to write long winded posts confusing the heck out of our competition then I could offer some support as the navigator. I English speak good.

Leave me out of diplo too. I'm not a 'diplomatic' pirate. :aar:

Fellow Pirates,
My $0.02 on the settings as posted in the voting thread are as follows:
Civilizations per team? -------1 Civ per team
Starting Era? ------Ancient
Pitboss style? - Sequential / Concurrent ----Not sure what this even is....
Diplomacy? - Full private / Full public / AI Diplo / Banter thread / CTON -----Full public
Always War? - Yes / No ------No
Barbarians? - Raging / Yes / No -----Yes (not raging)
Spies? - Full / Limited ( declare options to ban ) / None ----Full, if a team wants to waste time on this, then they bad luck to them
Corporations? - Yes / No ----Yes
Blockades? - Yes / Modern Era only / No ----No
War Elephants? - Yes / Khmer only / No -----Yes
Tech Trading? - Yes / Limited / No -----Yes
Nukes? - Yes / No -----No
Map trading? - Always / When possible in game ----Yes
Banned Wonders? ----Not too fussed. If someone wants to take time to build wonders, then all the best to them
Pick method? ----I like the Snake Pick
Map restrictions? ----Not too sure on what makes a good multi player map. I did like PB2 donout game though.
Over to you Captain Dave.

Plagiarizing kp's voting style...
(also kp, sequential turns means teams play in player order (which slows the pace of the game quite a bit) and simultaneous turns means all players play at once (much better turn place, but need to deal with double moves drama)
Civilizations per team? ------- 1, but wouldn't object to more
Starting Era? ------ Ancient, although we do have plenty of PB6 players in our team
Pitboss style? - Sequential / Concurrent ---- ugh, 5 teams is pushing it too much for sequential turn pace, but don't want double move disputes. Don't really like either option tbh, perhaps sequential if we can all have multiple primary turnplayers
Diplomacy? - Full private / Full public / AI Diplo / Banter thread / CTON ----- Banter thread only, helps us since we don't need anyone doing diplo
Always War? - Yes / No ------ Yes
Barbarians? - Raging / Yes / No ----- No
Spies? - Full / Limited ( declare options to ban ) / None ---- None then Limited (no civic/religion switching)
Corporations? - Yes / No ---- No
Blockades? - Yes / Modern Era only / No ---- No (although thematically appropriate )
War Elephants? - Yes / Khmer only / No ----- No
Tech Trading? - Yes / Limited / No ----- No
Nukes? - Yes / No ----- No
Map trading? - Always / When possible in game ---- Always
Banned Wonders? ---- Perhaps a GLH restriction on certain coast heavy maps? Otherwise None
Pick method? ---- Depends on how many civs per team, Snake Pick if 1, some other way if more
Map restrictions? ---- None that I can think of

Ask and you shall receive (went for the highbrow approach)

Casting my votes. Personally, I would still like to play that AW Renaissance Team Game I had in mind, but doubt there will be enough support for it here. Five teams would just make sequential turns difficult. So, voting in favor of a more traditional PB setup.
Civilizations per team? ------- 1
Starting Era? ------ Does not matter to me, though
Pitboss style? - Sequential / Concurrent ------ Concurrent
Diplomacy? - Full private / Full public / AI Diplo / Banter thread / CTON ------ Full Private Diplomacy - I recognize we don't have anyone particularly good at diplo, but I feel a democracy game would lose a lot without it.
Always War? - Yes / No ------ No
Barbarians? - Raging / Yes / No ------ Yes
Spies? - Full / Limited (declare options to ban) / None ------ Limited - Ban Civic & Religion Switching
Corporations? - Yes / No ------ Yes - If watery map ban Sid's Sushi
Blockades? - Yes / Modern Era only / No ------ No - Got Enough of that in PB6
War Elephants? - Yes / Khmer only / No ------ Khmer only
Tech Trading? - Yes / Limited / No ------ No
Nukes? - Yes / No ------ Hell No
Map trading? - Always / When possible in game ------ Always
Banned Wonders? ---- Leave it up to the mapmaker. Ask that he strongly consider the Pyramids and GLH in making the map. Ban SoZ if we end up with always war.
Pick method? ------ Snake Pick. Would prefer banning some of the usual suspects to introduce some variety (Inca, India, Byzantium, Egypt, Ottomans, Pacal, Willem, HC, Mansa Musa, Darius I, Elizabeth, Sury, Bismarck, Izzy)
Map restrictions? ------ Something that feels natural. Prefer it if we all have contact pre-optics
