Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[Spoilers] Bacchus debuts on RB showing unmatched vision and slick dice-rolling

So, we lost Krill, which is a shame, but also the above happened. At first I was like:

And then remembered it's RBMod, and both Cre and Exp have been changed. Still, actually:

Quote:Expansive: +100% production of Markets, Aqueducts,Grocers, Harbours, +35% production of workers and work boats, +2 Health/City

Creative: Now +100% production of Observatories, in addition to +100% production of Theatres, Colluseum and +2 culture per city

So, now we can produce WB's from T0 with a bonus as long as we have a plains forest or grass forest hill, and our (cheaper) Cothons are double-speed (with 17 teams we are certain to have at least some trade partners). Creative is not so hot without libraries, but still saves hammers on monuments and we can pass up religion. Double speed markets actually makes them viable. So, overall there is both general strength and nice specific synergies, but of course the downside is

MUST HAVE SEAFOOD START

Carthage's Fishing risks being so much junk and having an Exp bonus on a worker who has nothing to do is just a cruel joke. Of course, thanks to the pastures change to Hunting, this is less of an issue. Numidian Cavalry has been changed in a way which I don't quite understand, am I right in thinking that now it's just a HA with Combat1 slapped on? This is not too shabby, HA's are awesome anyhow and we'll be able to give them Shock without bothering with Stables, or give them three proms if we do stable.

This is a decent leaderciv, but I'm wary of the risk of being landlocked. Everybody please chip in.

From what I understand, the map's going to have a lot of water on it, so the risk of being land-locked isn't that much. In addition, I assume we could get to Agriculture or Hunting while we build the worker if necessary, especially if we start with a freshwater lake.

That's what the cavalry looks like--I guess it keeps its bonus against Trebuchets (as well as Catapults), but as you said, Combat 1 is a big addition. Admittedly, I don't like HR in general since it's a dead-end tech, but I'm completely horrible with war tactics, so don't take that for much tongue

Overall I think it's fine--remember the point of this system is to prevent repetition (which isn't an issue with either of us I think) and not get stuck with a truly horrible team (certainly EXP/CRE isn't horrible, no matter the civ).

Yeah, I thought about it overnight and realised, actually, that Fishing is the only tech that you really would like to have on T0, the rest you can safely research whilst building the worker. And you are right, it is B&S, so there will be water aplenty one way or another.

To Brick: keep

Yeah--though I'm not sure we'd if we should go worker-first regardless; whenever I see high-level games they go worker-first to start the snowball of worker-turns, even if it's low-impact stuff like roads--maybe the Expansive workboat bonus changes that?

It depends on resources, if we have a coastal fish, WB is the way to go, no doubt. Three clams — and we'll have to see. Also depends on alternatives, of course — if there's a pig, we are going worker first.

I do have a mechanics question, if any lurkers are willing to assist — am I correct in setting the tech cost modifier to 1.61 for Large and Monarch, or are there other influences? The same question for maintenance, would it be at 0.81 for Distance and 0.2125 for Number of Cities?

Wow, shame that you lost Krill/Seven, quite possibly the strongest team in this game. I think, other players should have proposed Krill to alter settings to make them fit his expectations but this isn't my business of course.

Well, Krill set out his mapscript desires quite clearly, I'm not sure why people insisted on B&S nonetheless. Or maybe that's why!

FWIW, I think exciting competition is far more valuable than exciting geography, even if one does buy into the suggestion that B&S produces the latter. So yeah, I think we lost out.

Bored-ish. What are all those people talking about in the nearby threads? I hope it's about how many messages there are in the nearby threads.

EDIT: Opponent analysis

There are too many opponents and I'm too green to bother with analysis. The end.

In settings thread I'm defending your right to ask for a reload after accidental conversion to AI. You know, such things seem to happen to you sometimes.
