Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

The Way of the Civ Player - Ichabod and Wetbandit's PB13 Spoiler Thread

My desktop capable of RBmod and painless civ play decided to konk out about the time I volunteered to sub for you. Paranormal activity obviously abounds here. alright

My concern about MoM was also influenced by the 'Mids remaining unbuilt. Someone beelined MoM hard. Looking at score jumps, Plako had a 20point increase that turn. No one else really has that big of a jump, so I'd bet he built it. Makes sense as I seem to recall he had a decent amount of jungled land and may have many calendar resources also.

That's valuable information. I get really confused trying to track scores, so I didn't realize it. Well, hopefully the other teams will get more worried about plako than about us (which is absolutely understandable, by the way lol ).

Yes, I'm sure no one needs extra information to know that Plako is a huge threat. lol

There's a slight chance that Fintourist/Old Harry may have built it, as I don't have the score data for them at 425BC, but I imagine you would have been able to see that in F8/F9.

Well, there's no way FinHarry can have Currency, Calendar, 10 cities and MoM and still be near us in score, so I don't think they were the ones. It's likely to be plako.

We made peace with WLP, by the way. There's a chance he's getting ready to settle in our faces, but I think this was a good opportunity. I'll explain my reasoning a bit better later.

For the bloodthirsty lurkers out there, we are going to declare war on Plako in less then 10 turns. Stay tuned...

He stole our land and he's busy building wonders... I doubt he can magic loads of defenders too...

You remember that awesome island site? It also has stone and plako stole it from us. I'm unloading 4 phalanxes near it in ~9 turns, right when the city reaches size 2.

I'm betting on a 1 axe defense.

Now introducing my new brand of Internet Popcorn for sale. Get yours before it's too late. popcorn

So that corn/clam site has stone in the BFC? I assume you'll throw up more pictures, especially once currency lands. Have you figured out what you're going to tech?

Pictures are coming soon. I fixed my internet, just got to wait until I have time to do it. There's some other decisions to be taken too.

This picture shows why Slowcheetah decided to attack us. The land between him and WLP is really bad. No food...

Here's the power graph after our battle. Slow's graphs haven't been increasing much recently, so I think his mostly checked out by now, which is good for me.

On the other front, I made peace with WLP. Peace Treaty, not cease fire. I imagined he was going to settle near me after that and I was kind of okay with it. He proceeded to do so, as shown below:

I could be a dick and settle that sheep within the first ring of a city, but I won't do it for now. Instead, I'll try to signal that, if WLP settled that city, the other one between us is mine. That's the first decision that I need your help, weetbandit: where to settle this city? I have a settler being made in HP for it, which I think I'll whip this turn, since WLP may think he has the right to both cities.

As I see it, blue circle is the best city long term. Red circle is a "let's not piss WLP plant" and pretty defensible. Yellow circle is a better on the short term, doesn't aggravate WLP so much, but it's harder to defend than red circle... I'm not sure about where to settle. Either way, plan is to quickly chop a barracks and a granary. I need more units on the front with WLP, since I sent some of them to participate on the attack plako plan.

On the next turn after WLP peace, we got a Buddhism spread. That's nice! We also made a trade with WLP, fur for ivory. Yes, Ivory is way better than fur, due to elephants, but I think we can afford the trade for now, since WLP can't make Ellies (I beleive so, since HBR + construction would be quite a bit of teching). Either way, I think this trade will make WLP less inclined to attack us after the 10-turn peace deal and we can cancel the trade as soon as we feel safe/WLP gets construction (we can see little bridges in his rivers when he gets construction, right?).

The 7xp phalanx is going to clear the barb city that showed to our north. It has 3 warriors on defense, exactly what's needed for HE! City will likely be razed.

I'm chopping two third ring forest (getting 48h) to get the Lighthouse in BoM quicker. If we keep the fur trade, a market would give us +2 happy here... Have to think about it, might be worth it...
