Oooo, sneaky. But yeah it all went on Frigate upgrades against scooter.

A flood plains oasis has become a relatively common site on RB, but I have a new specimen to present:
The desert corn!
In other news I should have attacked Jowy a few turns ago but got greedy and decided to take his other island city(on borsche's island) too. On reflection I don't have the troops available to do this nicely. So I've turned back around and I'll attack Benihime this turn or the next. Once Benihime is taken that will free up a bunch of troops from defense duty and my fleet can cut his island off from the mainland and I'll turn my attention there.
I doubt I can make inroads into his mainland immediately. Well, his mainland garrison near me is very thin but he has a stack of about 20 rifles by the mackoti border that would head back my way. Most likely I'll just wait for better troops, but I'm curious how well machine guns+cannons+relative junk can do. Theoretically, rifles can't attack into machine guns(who have +50% against gunpowder) and they won't be able to defend against CR2-3 cannons attacking cities. If he doesn't diversify his military by the time I build up a mass of machine guns I might try it.
Mack's golden age ended without him going into State Property btw, though he is in Slavery and US, which suggests that he still wants the Kremlin. Meanwhile scooter didn't go into State Property either nor did he even make it to Constitution, staying in HR. I doubt either of them has another golden age for a long time. I can't say I've done any maths on which is better but I find it pretty curious.

Hey there, both of the other 2 possible contenders (mack/scooter) have expressed a preference to concede. Would you be happy with that?

I guess I don't have much choice do I?
I think my lead is a bit smaller than when GJ and Haram left though. Both scooter and mack have a number of advantages, and if someone rolled a low odds engineer to steal Mining Inc I'd be pretty worried.

I suppose their hearts aren't in it both being replacements, they don't have the attachment to the civs that might make them keep playing.

Yeah, I guess so. I'm pretty curious to go and check their outputs though. Scooter's demos seem pretty similar to mine, but he's up a lot of beakers, and despite the population difference our land area is pretty similar, Dreylin land is still coming on line. I'm especially curious about our relative tech rate, which I couldn't really pin down. On the other hand Mack's tech rate is a lot better than both of us. His overall position is worse IMO but if the world were to stay peaceful I think he has the advantage in a space race. If the world doesn't stay peaceful that's an opportunity to shake things up.

Oh thank jesus we stopped before you attacked haha. I was focusing defense on Mackoti and Scooter fronts cause Scooter just finished off Dreylin with huge stacks still alive, and Mackoti had his ships near me. That said I had been whipping and drafting and building units the last 30 turns or something. If you attacked before I got rifles I'd just fall over and die.

I needed the gems for one turn in some cities, next turn my WW from Tsargon would disappear. 20g seemed a reasonable value for this(with some value for myself of course). Meanwhile his spare resource is pretty useless to him due to the mirrored nature of the map. I offered a lump sum rather than gpt to emphasise the temporary nature. I didn't see the harm in offering ... but apparently I've managed to annoy him.
I would pay 20g to make your cities unhappy. I would pay a lot more too

Hey there. Looking forward to reading your thread. I glanced at the last few posts, and I figure I should explain myself a little more clearly.
I agree that either Mack or I definitely could have still won, but REM said it pretty well. I almost said no to subbing when GermanJoey also backed out, because really it's not fair to you to see your only two competitors drop out and you somehow still lose just because a pair of veterans were willing to step in. I also felt like the only way to keep you behind me would be to use some force on you immediately following the Dreylin war (and I even cobbled together some plans to do so), but then that felt even worse - do I really want to risk kingmaking against the guy who has actually played this thing since T0? If the roles were reversed and I were in your shoes, I'd be pretty unhappy about that.
FWIW, my tech rate was flattered a bit by running tons of wealth currently, so I'm guessing yours was still easily better than mine. My tentative goal was to try to lock down a 4 person GA and use that to propel me towards space, but even that was going to require a fair bit of luck and a lot of time. If I pulled that off, winning would also require defending borders by land, sea, and air against the best two active players on this website. I just don't care about this civ enough to even want to do that, so I actively wanted to not be in a winning position. When I realized all that, I just flipped on my concede flag for whenever the lurkers noticed others were doing the same.
In an alternate reality where Haram and Joey both played on and fought each other, they would have conceded to you by now anyway. So I think the outcome is the only fair one anyway.

Hah, fair enough.

Apparently not, all our demos are eerily similar. The upcoming Mining Inc is the only major advantage I have IMO.
