Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[BTS] Civ IV Newbie Succession Game - Monarch - Beginning now!

We should probably just finish off Shaka right now, they probably don't have that many units left and we get some more easy land for Domination. Also we should probably have LB's as MP since they are so cheap on hammers (50 on normal). Also I would rather go for Military Science, and then precede to invade Portugal. Mainly because Currassier allow for a nice blitz after we kill their army.

That's a good idea BaII.

We should switch into nationhood, draft muskets and build knights.

We could build longbows for police I suppose, but I'd prefer we use city raider maces as police, so that we can later upgrade to Rifles or grenades.

Therefore I'd suggest that we start saving our maces in the backline, while we start to field armies composed solely of musket, knight, and treb.

Most important will be getting 2-3 draft cities, and drafting randomly from other cities as well. Drafting a musket army, at 1!!! Pop per draft, will be epically effective. In fact, we might want to get drama/music right after nationalism to get the Globe Theater up and running (in Khorhal?). Not to mention potential for culture slider happiness to counteract MASS DRAFT unhappiness.

I have the save, and will play this evening.

Situation looks a lot better than last time, we're in a position to kill Shaka, which I should manage barring logistics problems.

After that our logical avenues of attack are our two friends Sally and Joao Pinto. Whichever is weakest I'll sick my bad boys on.

Tech wise, were still pretty low on gnp to beaker conversion, so after Nat, go for rifles and wrap up this game.

Ok I played the set, 22 turns total.

I didn't do much vis a vis war, kept building units and shunting most of them west towards Zulu territory. I could probably have pushed on here, but we're viciously short of siege and not yet out of the age of castles, so I held off.

Economy wise I did much better, landing Nationalism (Amsterdam is building Taj), Writing, Paper and Printing Press. I've set the techs to Rifling. If we have rifles and drafting we should win at that stage.

In foreign relations I accepted peace from Raggy getting 65 gold, and have refused requests from both sides to rejoin, the economic build up is too important.

I've a lot of cities stagnated (through use of specs, reassignment to food poor tiles, haven't used the "stop growth" button) as they're either on the happy cap or just over it, have a look through the cities every few turns to eee where we can start re-growing.

A lot of cities at the moment are on wealth buildings, try to finish them and whip into units for the next push. Aslo whip into the Taj at every opportunity. Shaka got lib, and probably took Nat.

Alrighty, so I think the legal thing to do is to have BaII play the next set.

BaII ... I'd suggest that we start whipping Muskets immediately, that we may take over the remaining Zulu cities that much quicker. I believe that with Trebs, Muskets and Knights we can finish off Zulu. As stated earlier I believe that we should save our remaining (high level) Maces until we can upgrade them into Rifles.

If we're going to whip anything, whip knights. We've enough muskets for stack defence, but with the extra strength and movement knights are far superior. We will have drafted rifles available to us shortly, so we won't be needing upgrades.

Frankly, an extra 5-6 trebs will probably do for Shaka anyways.

I didn't say whip, I say DRAFT!!! lol

Drafting muskets cost 1 pop, and I think Drafting Rifles cost 2 pop.

But yea, if we are Whipping .... Whip Trebs thumbsup

Unless this is RB-mod, rifles are 1-pop drafts

Alright I'll take a look into the save tomorrow, I don't want to draft muskets quite yet though, since from what it sounds like we are on the verge of getting rifles, as well as suffering from Happiness issues. My plan is to get rifling, and try to draft every single city ASAP. Next up we are going to probably push for cannons, or would u guys prefer Military Tradition for Cavs?

Hmmm. Ya lets wait to draft Rifles smile

I think Rifling -> Drama -> Steel -> Mil Trad in that order. If we can avoid bloody war with Japan that'd be best ... but just in case of plan B maybe we should start building Galleys and Tririmes in our Coastal Cities?

I feel that a Globe Theater in Korhal (or likeminded city) should be a priority.

Shakuras should be straight building, Korhal should be drafting constantly (after Global Theater)
