Yes, abbreviated from "dedicated lurking".

Benefits of ded lurking are that you can join in the conversations without having to protect spoilerific knowledge. Often used if someone doesn't have time to commit to play the game itself, but wants to take part. We welcome you if you decide to go that route!

Sounds fun!

I started reading through some of the matches on here a couple of months ago to inform my own strategy for a pitboss game with some friends. Had I shown up any earlier, I'd probably be one of your opponents! This game format seems like an awesome learning opportunity, particularly for a true green like myself.

I went to Elum's thread first, but it became clear pretty quickly that he was in no way set up to win (the post-count contest) so I came over here where things were a bit more interesting. By this point, the only spoilers I could give you from over there would be, "He decide early that he wanted to grab Stonehenge." So I think that means I'm in the clear.

Thanks for following us! As Dreylin said, do feel free to ded-lurk us and make suggestions!

bang I've been thinking in SP mode too much.

Elum is Persia. Chariots with defensive boni would be a pain (given the terrain in the soon-to-be contested settling area) so I've swapped one Axeman to a Spear in the Plan.

I would love to settle Blue but I honestly don't see how we can hold it. His borders will pop in 5t and he'll see the village and pigs and be all over it. So my proposal: pillage the village; 2 pillages should give us 30+ gold which will fund our research nicely.

As to settling, we should continue to go for Red. 1S or 2S of Blue is possibly feasible but definitely not the original dot on flat ground. We just can't hold it unless we stuff it full of Spearman and pray he doesn't think it worth the effort.

We should still go for Oracle. I've made a tentative plan till T74- EOT T60 Settler pops from 2.5" (and plants on Red Dot T65) and the next one pops EOT 73.

Good thought - plus with Stonehenge he's got a leg-up on cultural control in any disputed border area.

What if we write off Blue entirely by moving Red 1W? That gets us the Pigs first-ring as well as the Fish, and leaves the Southern dots untouched. There would be space to backfill 2E of Red later, and it would maintain the Southern dots. The Mountain and lake would make forking Red and Tan impossible, but it would mean controlling the front with Culture and defending 2 points.

The alternative would probably be to grab straight for a single front city on the Village itself, leaving Red and Tan where they currently are. If we want this spot, we have to go for it next and we have to push for it fast.

Either way, I agree that we need to pillage a village a day - down to a Cottage, at least.

BTW, we might want to add a whip Anger counter to the sheet to make sure we're not going to overrun at any point.

Oh crap I messed up the Oracle calculations...please don't play the turn yet - I need to fix it.

Yikes ... backing away from the plan! Some radical flim-flam going on there right now!

No worries, work day so I can't play for another 9-10hours anyway...

I thought that a city on the village was a nice location. Maybe that is why the village was put there?
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

The four best choices:
a) Get Oracle 3 turns later EOT T62 by double-whipping a Temple to generate overflow
b) Get Oracle 3 turns later EOT T62 by double-whipping an axeman/spearman when copper is hooked up. Fishes are not worked to generate one extra hammer.
c) Same as B, but work fishes and finish EOT T63
d) Slow-build to completion T63

I'm still not sure which is best, a) is a risky if we're planting on Blue Dot shifted 1S.

Red 1W and Tan can be forked by hill 2N of Tan. If we plant Red 1W we can work the village, but Elum will likely plant 1NW of it and win the cultural battle, so we should pillage it, and asap. It would be much preferable to defend just one point, yeah.

Assuming we go for this: we plant on T66. Worker 10 follows the alternative plan to construct some roads to get Axe from The Hub (Plan b/c above) there by T67, Warrior from 2.5" reaches there at same time. We can get additional spear/axe there from The Hub and/or 2.5" to arrive 2-3 turns later.

It is ballsy but doable, I think twirl I know I'd like to see Elum's power graph before I decide. lol

Edit, NB etc:
He can already see the village when he planted! (me-> smoke )

I'm seriously considering pillaging it, cancel Oracle plans for the moment and prepare to repel boarders.

My 5c:

1) If we want this area, we have to get the City out there faster than t66

2) Not being prepared to change a plan in response to opponents' actions is a sure-fire way to lose

3) I think that we're a bit behind in expansion, so I wouldn't be sad to put the Oracle on hold (or cancel entirely) to make a push.

4) If we pillage it down, we could probably afford a Warrior -> Spear/Axe upgrade if needed

Also note - once we are aligned on the sheets, we need to make sure that the "Science" sheet is referring to the correct City sheets.

Switched The Hub to a Settler and took the chop.

There was a problem with the tile usage at 2.5" that didn't tie with the other 2 cities. I tried to reconcile things, but I think I just made everything into a whole mess. scared

I tried to tie it all together, but only made it a few turns down the line before throwing in the towel. There's some serious tile-switching going on and it drove me nuts so I had to call it a night. See if it makes sense to you guys...

Oh, and here's Elum's Power graph:
