Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

[Spoilers] Amelia, Tempest of the Seas

Be careful though, Lanun doesn't have enough production to waste on scouts. This was why i wanted hunting before going scouting =)

Don't worry, it was a one-turn build. Unit fees are starting to add up, so I don't care if the scout dies, as long as he finds some useful info first. Wasn't much else I could work on while growing to size 7 at the capital (before the settler), warrior would have cost about 2 gpt to sit around.

How long do you estimate until you get game access back?

I am supposed to get back the internet today, but... this is Malaysia. Today for them means like 1 week later for us =(

Anyway, I decided to agree with the Ilios grab. The reason was pretty simple, and you said it yourself, i'm nearest. Free land =) No one else would be close enough to take a city, so i get first choice.

But with the condition that i get BW first though. Str 4 Warriors + a Str 6 Warrior (Orthus Axe does give Blitz) will be enough i think.

If you think taking on Ilios is for the best, then that's fine. You'll have plenty of allies, at least. But be sure that they actually back you up- it's no good if they expand and build infra while you attack on your lonesome, and then their 200 hammers worth of units conveniently show up too late to assist. Really you should combine stacks with at least the Calabim, 200 hammers worth of warriors is only about 12 guys, which may not be enough to take anything on its own. You're also going to be paying a lot for these troops and having to slow down expansion, so make whatever arrangements you can to ensure that you actually profit from this conflict.

Who says i'm sending 200 hammers worth of Warriors?

I'm probably sending only 100 hammers worth, since they're str 4, it should be enough. That + Axed Warrior wil convince the rest that i'm participating.

Also, the main reason why i'm doing this is because i'm still a dogpile target. Lanun is just as scary as Malakim, by joining up i can buy time for myself to get a much better defense.

Anyway, how are things? Barb troubles?

I think Darrell said you're sending 200 hammers worth tongue It was in one of his emails- might want to clarify that with him.

Everything going fine, scout managed to survive long enough to reach new land, so I'm currently uncovering spots along the inner northeast coast. No barbs at all have invaded.

Still about a week until you get internet?

Of course right after I post that, I play the turn, move the scout, and wind up next to a CII Giant Spider. Oh well, at least he found Serdoa's borders.

Where do you want me to go with tech? There are three immediately appealing options- I can keep plowing forward to the Empyrean, I can get Mind Stapling in 8 turns for Saverous, or I can get Military Strategy in about 8 turns for the free great commander and city raider promos + military state from warfare.

Also Education is in, so I / you can revolt to apprenticeship whenever you want, if you want.

Do we have festivals yet for markets? Cheap Markets is one of the best things a Lanun can get.

If we already have that.. it doesn't make sense to get Mind Stapling if we're switching to Empyrean anyway, and since we're attacking Ilios we probably should have no problem.

Beeline Trade. If all else fails and we can't get Empyrean, we can go CoE.

And yet, i did tell darrell i'm sending 200 worths of hammers... doesn't mean i have to play along, right =) 5 normal Warriors + the super warrior should be enough to satisfy him. The rest are sending str 3 warriors, so i should be able to escape notice.

Apprenticeship... I'm in nationhood now? Revolt when the settler is done in Radiata. (If i'm still not back, but i think i'm getting it back today, actually. Hopefully.)

Okay, will revolt to apprenticeship & agrarianism next turn (settler completed end of today's turn). Festivals in 1 turn, 2 with the turn of anarchy.

Be aware that 6 warriors will do approx. nothing to Ilios, especially if your allies are sending equally paltry companies. Saverous + your strength 6 warrior could probably kick some serious ass together, if you actually want to take land. Since Ilios is probably your main competition for the Empyrean, beating him up with a real military could actually increase your chances for getting the faith, whether via concessions or just taking him out of the game. Also you'd then have a couple of hero-strength units to defend yourself until you get Chalid, which won't be for quite some time, considering that Mono is a fair distance away. Safety could be an issue after Ilios goes, since you'll then be the #1 civ, and probably the most appealing target for the Calabim.

Actually, I can't believe I'm typing this, but maybe you should just stick with the Overlords, at least until you build a lot of its goodies. Consider- your cities are all coastal. Overlords priests have a 2 tile range with Tsunami. If you have a lot of them sitting around, with Saverous and Stygian to provide the backbone, you'll have a better defense than I think you'll get with the Empyrean. Chalid is still better if you want to actually kill dudes in their own land, but Overlords does give you Hemah for some impressive (if late) offense.

Oh yeah and there's Basium too. Still planning on summoning him eventually? Empyrean is better if you are, provided you have a good plan to get a lot of your own guys killed.

Either way, Festivals first =) I'll think about Mind Stapling after that.
