Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Joey/Parkin get up and slam

retep didn't accept the copper for copper trade but.... he just found us with a work boat. And offered this!

I accepted. With any luck, he cancels OB with suttree. I think suttree's current GNP is 36 (the lowest in the demographics screen), which means it will drop by 10 (the number of cities retep has) down to 26. Subtract 20 (12 cities Cre culture, 4 EP from the palace, 4 palace culture) and, well... add any libraries to that and things are gonna look pretty strikey for him soon... mischief

Suttree and us have had a peace treaty for almost 15 turns and yet he's still maintaining a turnsplit so that he always has the second half of the turn. What a fucking guy.

retep still hasn't canceled OB with him, unfortunately. =/

Weird. Maybe he's just compulsive that way? I don't know what he's like as a player.

Well, not much else you can do as far as that goes. Unless you can capture the GLH city. smile

Uh, what? We built the GLH in our capital, Grimace...

Doh! I'm getting confused. Watching too many Pitboss games!

Commodore suggested I post in this thread for lurker input. Basically, I'm getting super pissed about suttree camping the last half of the timer for the last 20 turns at least, starting when we had peace and then the last dozen of which we've also had peace. He just played last in the turn again, and once again refused to take his new turn in order to try to deny me the last half of the timer. Isn't this explicitly against the rules? Right now I feel inclined to just refuse to take my turn until he does out of spite. Under the circumstances, how justified would I be here?

You're planning to declare war on him aren't you? Then a well-defined turn split is a good thing. I don't see a need to read anything malicious into it. The following scenario is possible*:

You both played the turn at whatever time was natural during peacetime. This lead to you playing first. Once peace was up, suttree determined that either side might want to go to war. Then it makes sense to maintain a turnsplit so that option is always there. Given you first/him second worked well before, why change it?

I've often tried to maintain a turn split while in a 'cold war', so long as neither side is holding up the game I don't see the problem.

Why do you need the second half of the turn anyway? To be honest I think the attacker should try give the defender the second half of the turn split if possible, because that more accurately resembles a sequential game.

*the only information I have is your latest post.

Yes, I am planning to attack him in a few turns, which is why I'm mad he's stuck to this turn split for forever. It would be advantageous to me, as the attacker with a primarily 2-mover army, to have the second half of the timer. He grabbed the second half last time, so why shouldn't I get the chance this time?

Our last war was all of two turns long, so I don't know if "worked well" really applied there. He gamed the timer last time to launch a surprise assault out of the fog, and, well, OK, good for him. But why does he get to claim the second half of the timer forever? He's consistently around when the turn rolls, very often being the person who rolls it, meaning he would be playing naturally before me every other turn.

I mean, isn't this exactly what people supposedly get furious with Parkin about?

As long as he doesn't double-move (play the last half of the turn, then play again in the first half of the next turn before you have a chance to act), that's not against the rules. Nor is there anything in the rules about having to play before/after anyone else, so long as you don't take a double-turn before someone you're in that situation with has a chance to act. So my feel is that he's not violating any rules, and in fact if he intends to make war on you, what he's doing is actually good.

So I wouldn't worry about it too much. He's the one who has to watch for you to play and spend the extra attention...you just do what you do. smile

well, I went ahead and played, but I think it sets a really bad precedent if someone can just maintain a peacetime split indefinitely to camp their favored half of the turn.

T92, suttree once again sent us a stupid resource offer in an attempt to mollify me.

T93, invasion. I captured a worker via a boated axeman to the west there. I had intended to also capture the northern worker with a chariot, but unfortunately the game lagged out as I was trying to move and I accidentally moved him south. Woulda had to delete it anyways, oh well.

My main stack is 7 HA, 3 chariots, an axeman, and an archer, going against an Axe and 2 Spears. I have 3 more HA, covered by an archer, that can either reinforce the stack or else hit Shanghai. (single axe and spear garrison)

So, we'll see how it goes. I should be at least able to take the two closest cities, if not 3.
