Renamed Tenochitlan to be Lys.
Monarchy is going to get us to currency: it's 677 beakers vs 1001 beakers -- we can grow taller and get free units (cutting costs woot) -- but we can also get additional tiles worked. that's going to be the biggest thing for us. Additionally, the unit requirements will keep our power somewhat up.
The other thing, with all of our libraries, we should be able to run some scientists to stagnate our size. That can also help us limp along toward monarchy. I think the plan should be: finish meditation, then 0% for priest hood on T98, then 100% priesthood on T99, then overflow into Monarchy and hum along at 0% science for ... 10 turns. We can probably cut that to 8 or 9 with scientists.
So it's rough but, if no one attacks us, we have enough cities to claw back to contention.

Thanks, Nyles.
It looks like we whipped the settler on T98 (like you mentioned). What'd we whip T99? Library in Tyrosh and Rosby?
I can't get in tonight (obligation after work) but I'd be interested to see our 0% science/food stagnation plan. Basically, get all cities to max happy/max size and then run scientists everywhere. Bank gold until we can get Monarchy at 100% science. Then rinse and repeat while going to currency. Maybe, if we're pathetic enough, we can get enough scientists to ... make an academy while teching math and then bulb currency? I know that's not the best investment but desperate times call for desperate measures.
It looks like we're losing something like 70gpt or so due to costs (+24 gpt at 80% with 94 base commerce and no multipliers). Library at Valyria gives us 25bpt (both scientists gives us 32.5 beakers); if we can get libraries up everywhere that's building them now + Dragonstone and King's Landing (maybe not in Volantis normally but desperate times...), that'll get us around 113 bpt at -70 gpt -- so, what, 3 turns? 4 turns at max science?
That's not counting scientists everywhere, either. Something to consider.
Any idea what our unit costs are now? I know growing the cities will improve our free unit cost threshold -- does anyone know how that's calculated? What i'd like to figure out is: is it worth it to dump a bunch of hammers into some partially built units so we can grow grow grow when we can finally live under a higher happy cap?
Thanks again for the pictures. Let me know what you think.

I'd just like to say that we lead in an another important demo: Top 4 in page views.
I've had family in town for the last week, which has meant I can't perform my minstrelsy role. I'll try for an epic update this week as we limp our way toward monarchy.

Based on OT4E's post in the tech thread, we probably should have pressed our units on him. Pillaging + burning cities could have relieved our pressure and maybe gotten us to Monarchy sooner. Alas for that.
I should be able to get in and do a city-by-city report tonight.

It is such a pain to get into this game via my old computer and mod. Desafortunadamente, that is the number 1 thing that saps my minstrelsy. (I’m not sure that’s the right word but it’s autocorrected on my circa 2009 mac gaming RIG!!! so…)
So after several fruitless attempts, I’ve decided that I would rather not spend my scant free time logging into a game.
Nyles, if you want to just post pictures (or just take screenshots and upload them to imgur and let me know your username over there), I’d be happy to weave them into a non-cohesive narrative. The barrier to logging in is a little bit too frustrating for me. After all, this is supposed to be fun, right?
Nyles, does that solution work for you? Sorry for abandoning you on that front...

Sucks that you technical issues are keeping you out. It works for me, though. I generally prefer playing the turns myself anyway (not that you did a bad job of it).
Founded the new city of Tenochtitlan Braavos on the hill northwest of the ivory. Ivory is hooked up and wines will be as well as soon as we get monarchy.
Meanwhile, OT4E is moving a settler up by the gems. He already has some, and him founding here would have the unfortunate consequence of denying us those gems (unless we find some somewhere else, or there are some I missed).
On T105 he had the axe/settler on the hill 2S of the chariot and an archer 1S of that. If he founds there next turn the archer will prevent the chariot from getting an easy raze.
I agree we should have pressed him earlier, and normally I would have if we had not just taken over dcodea and didn't have to worry about the possibility of Pindicator taking advantage of a large portion of our forces being occupied elsewhere.
Unit costs are low compared to city maintenance and civic upkeep. It's about 9 gpt for units so far compared to 20 or 30 something at the least for maintenance.

It was more wistful hope. We would have had to press onward right after killing dcodea which makes sense in retrospect -- but not at the time.
Looking solid -- we about at a point where we can knock out Monarchy? Or are we waiting to whip the Library in King's Landing for that?
While it's frustrating to see the rich get richer, I'm not sure what we can do at this point. Maybe we go get that silver in the north and trade him one for our gems? If we can keep our city count up (the economy is already improving), we might have a chance to get past the bottom of the pack. We're coming for you, Kim Jong Un!
So several turns to Monarchy, then another save fest, then mathematics: maybe that point we can have a scientist who can bulb currency? No idea on the math there yet.

Looks like OT4E founded on the gems. That makes him our next target.
This is a casual game, right? So that means that taking down the leader/playing spoiler isn't necessarily a bad thing? Galley rush his homeland?
That'll be entertaining and MIGHT -- MIGHT! -- get us enough page views to catch up to pindicator/Commodore. Not to mention securing your reputation as extremely aggressive -- which you can then use to tech happily in peace in the next CIV4 pitboss because CVI is worse than V.
Whaddaya think? I mean, we might as well do something while teching Monarchy/Math/Currency.
...
I'll see myself out.
