I like lairs. Be cautious with ruins though, as they can be deadly. The most imbalanced parts of lairs are solved with EitB.

If you use a script that doesn't spawn with lairs, remind me to tell you how to randomise them onto it.

I'll wait to see a confirmed number of players and assorted settings then. I doubt if I'll use Torusland; I'm tempted to use Erebus actually, and use edits to overcome/override of some of the script's perrenial issues - but that might still be too unbalanced; I dunno.

Erebus Continent is generally better than Erebus if you do go that route smile

Could people confirm interest? I realise I'm probably the worst there! I can try post some proposed edits but tbh the next few months is pretty busy for me re planning trips and campaigning before the election, so we might just need to go with the current version.

I’ll still play and I say yes for lairs/huts/unique features. Everything cool FFH stuff nod . I can post full settings later unless some else wants to do that.

And thanks Ref for making map for us! I’m happy with anything you do from mirrored to non-balanced. Personally non-balanced sounds more fun though.

Also, I’m fine waiting till Q you come back. Even if that means two months or so. Game will be more fun with say 5 players than with 4. That also gives Ref plenty of time to play with the map (note: I don’t mean that you should put too much time into it).

Wait, is that approval for using basically an Erebus (Continent) map I'm hearing so far? I'll try to roll/find a good one if that trend holds up then. I've downloaded the Erebus Continent script but haven't played with it yet (and therefore haven't decided whether to use it).

Especially if there is indeed time for me to fiddle with the map to my heart's content, some general MP Meta guidelines would be helpful to go with the settings - e.g. I know there's a cultist-related issue with having too many small lakes, but I don't know how many is too many, or similarly how limited small islands (or overseas land in general) should be, etc. I know reagents and incense are more complicated than just calendar resources, and what looks like silver is not an early luxury but the extremely-late-game strategic Mithril, and that mana resources provide no bonus yields but are Very Important strategically (and I think, like oases, can't be settled on directly?) - and my understanding is that among the unique features, Guardians of Pristine Pass and Letum Frigis should not be close to anyone if permitted to be present at all (for ~~opposite reasons). And as Q said, that all lairs may be dangerous, but Ruins in the wrong spot can be (ahem) game-ruining. Anything else I should watch out for especially?

Sure, do Erebus continents if you feel you can get something ruin together. However I think that script rolls areas fitting to civilizations? In that case we'd have to pick before you start with the map, or just agree to get random civs assigned by you.

And yes, I'm also much in favour of waiting sowe get 5 playersplayers

Too sick to comment fully to Ref (I will do so another time), but you can choose whether to use flavour land or not. I would suggest not - I don't want to be in the Tundra as the Dovellio.

I hope you feel better soon, Q! (And absolutely no urgency on my question, obviously. Even if a map were wanted tomorrow instead of in like two months, I'd muddle through, and taking care of your health is overwhelmingly more important than answering any questions I may ever have about mapmaking!)

My understanding is that we're waiting for Q to get back in ~2-3 weeks:

I'm going overseas (for the first time in 5-6 years) and will not be bringing my computer. While I could check on my phone I don't want to commit to that.

Coldrain hasn't posted since mid-August though, so we'll see. I rolled a map I'm happy with and have been fiddling with for fun (including some playtesting to make sure all the start positions are actually fun to play from - at least for me) and I can specify more about it (or make changes if e.g. people feel strongly that there should be regular goody huts as well as the graveyards, dungeons, and lairs already on the map or whatever else) whenever players want me to. I was just waiting for Q to get back to post about that.
