RB Pitboss #1 Spoiler -- Zara of the Holy Roman Empire

Just a quick update. I played my turn before work this morning. Switched to the wine tile and Meditation in 6 turns. I also am #1 in GNP no tie anymore. Plan is working.

Wouldn't it make more sense working the lake (2/0/2 instead of 1/1/2) for same commerce but better growth (or is the scout that important)

I dont have fishing. Now if I were Spain on a lake....

Edit

That was kind of a short answer. I cannot work the lake without fishing otherwise I would have worked it from the get go.

I also believe that the scout is important but not more so than the religion and then growth. Scout should pop at same time as Meditation if I remember correctly. It was early when I signed in. I will check when I get home tonight.

I plan on moving back to the floodplains after I land Meditation and growing while teching AH. I may grow to 3 before starting the worker. Maybe 4 not sure yet. Dont want to have a worker stand around with nothing to do so I will have to do some calculations.

Fair enough, I was 'tricked' by your last picture showing the tiles value and I thought it was showing the ones you could work (as in the 'inside city' screen).

On the other hand, the lake was in the second ring, so no working it for the first turns...

True, I meant to say that I would have worked the coast till the border pop. duh

I am begining to suspect that the water I settled on is not the ocean just a big lake scouting is really important just have no idea where I am yet.

I was hoping that south was a dead end that I could settle at my leisure but not too sure now.

Turn 5 is finished and I am more confident that I will get the religion I have also scouted some of the immediate area which should hold 3 or 4 cities and has a nice choke point.

I am sending my scout north because I expect to find someone on the other side of that choke point.

I will send my second scount south.

One thought is if I am indeed bordering open water researching fishing to send out a couple scouting workboats.

How soon do barb warriors show up? I want to know when to build a warror do I have time to build a 3rd scout or should the warrior be next.

Tech path will still be ah/mine/bw but I need to come up with a plan after that.

I am thinking making a bid for the oracle and code of laws. Research path after bw would be wheel/priesthood/writing and chop out the oracle. Is that too early or too late. I dont have any experience with how fast people can get wonders, I dont have the multiplier but do have lots of forests. I hope to have a settler and a couple workers out by then. That gets me a second religion, my UB and a good tradeable tech.

Below are some screenshots. Meditation in 4 and scout in 4. Switch back to floodplains grow to 2. Build a worker then grow to 4 while building either scouts or warriors. Build a worker and settler then go for oracle. Gets me priest points also which I will need. I dont know how to calculate the turns but I think that is doable.

Lurkers let me know if I am smoke

Another question for the lurkers. Should I revolt to my new religion right away or wait to see if I get the second? What are the advantages/disadvantages.

They can start to show up around turn 35, although the first hostile warrior you run into might not necessarily be barbarian.

Barb warriors will only cross culture after a certain amount of civs have their 2nd city IIRC. Search CFC for the lowdown on barb mechanics is my advice here wink

Oracle is a very attractive Wonder in this sort of game, as it gives the builder benefits, but not the conquerer. Not sure you'll have time for BW & Wheel. For a CoL grab you need Priesthood & Writing. AH is a pre-req for Writing, as well as being essential for your growth, so that's a must-have. If I were you, I'd get AH next (as you plan to do) then review the situation: you'll have scouted more, and can speculate on other people's strategies based on their leader-civ combos. If Imhotep is a near neighbour then I'd drop Oracle to focus on military techs, etc.

Religion adoption can wait, so it should wait...

Unless I need the benefits immediately, I usually wait to revolt (either to a religion or to slavery) unil my first settler is on his way to my second city because a moving settler is unaffected by anarchy.

I would think it would be too dificult to get with out chopping. I can get wheel then preisthood, writing then do mining and bw while it slow builds.

Edit I really need BW sooner than later cant improve any mines till I can chop.
