Our lands from as awkward angle as possible (just how I like it!). Seems like the lands are fertile although as mentioned we probably are near a pole. Or maybe the snowy forests are a decoy? lol Anyway, we are lucky to have a river-heavy map (or atleast a start) since we are financial.

I now know what map script we are using. It's called "CivilizationIV Full of Resources". While enabling the flying camera, I found a new folder in my "My Games" folder. It's named after the map script. It has a debug file that includes " isNetMP : True, isGameMP : True" so I'm pretty sure this is the script that's used. Now gotta go study what kind of script it is smile

LiPing still hasn't settled his city. I hope he's going to actually play the game. Atleast his thread seems active.

Further digging into the map script turned out pointless. There are almost unlimited options. One thing the introduction promised was more balanced starts for multiplayer. With our mapmakers further fixing the map, I doubt anyone will get screwed just by the starting location. I actually just downloaded the script and tried it out, using the Pangaea base which was mentioned in our Civstats page (I don't know is that really accurate at all though). I used settings based on what we've seen so far in the actual game, and what I think they would prefer.

That's what I came up with. That's a smaller map with less opponents though. The terrain looked exactly like ours so far, except with more resources. This game could very well have a big united landmass, with small hubs like that in the sides. The hubs would be the initial area and the centre land would be contested area. Everyone would meet eachother equally if they're scattered in a circle around the landmass with coastal start (which is one of the options btw!). Then again, I could be completely wrong smoke But to my defense, I'm just passing time as we wait for others to end their turns..

banghead Rant warning!:banghead
I wonder what's taking these people so long. These turns should be the fastest ones in the game. What'll happen when there's an actual war going on, that would really need to be planned and executed carefully. Well, I actually voted for a longer timer. Maybe it's just my enthuasism taking over my rationality right now.

LiPing was waiting for a 12 hour interval to move the settler again, not realizing that the rule only applies to potential race conditions (just intended to prevent double-moves.) That's been cleared up now.

Let's head back west with the scout. I want to concentrate on the lands near us first. We might find contacts slower than those who pick a direction and go the whole hog there, but I think knowledge of our own surroundings might be more valuable, especially since we aren't planning to rush anyone.

Yup agreed, after that I think we should better explore up the coasts to see if there are any more fish/crabs or even whale for potential other coastal places and we use it to follow out to see where others are.

Well unless somewhat edited the map to trick us it looks like we're in the north since we have regular forest and jungle to our south. Just moved our scout again and found some more sheep (3 total now) so at least we'll be able to keep warm in the north.

huh Goodbye to that theory then. Also border pop revealed that the small island to our northwest might not actually just be a small island, but instead a landmass (or even part of our landmass). What I found actually relevant to our recent plans is that we have stone! jive Now we have to decice what to do with it. It's definately in a good spot for our second city. We could try to squeeze mysticism and masonry to our tech path, and then after some warriors and a settler (after our original workpath) we might want to go for stonehenge. It's a risky investment though, since there are so many civs out there without creative trait.

If we have copper though I'd be inclined to settle near that. I'll think about this later, Formula 1 grand prix starting in 30 secs smile

Well I'd say we're still northerly (unless they're mixing us up :P ) but perhaps there is another full landmass there as it is pretty large.

Also I'm beginning to suspect that LiPing must have spotted someone near her already based on her reply in the IT thread and her late turns, perhaps she is in a situation where the 12 hour move rule applies. If that's the case then unless there's just some map design issue that put her closer to others then it's possible we may have a close border with someone. All speculation though.

The nice thing about competing for wonders when you have the required multiplier, is that even if you lose the wonder race you get a nice hammer->gold conversion rate.

But if the aim is to actually finish Stonehenge or The Oracle (or the Great Wall) I consider waiting for stone/marble too slow. It requires two additional techs in the wheel and masonry, and at least eight worker turns to hook up the resource. If the resource is on a river I sometimes disregard my own rule. The ideal situation for speed is to settle on the resource, as it then becomes available the minute you research masonry.

Now the Pyramids, on the other hand, I would never consider without having stone.
