Turn 17 - 3320 BC

Worker begins building a camp on the deer tile. Our warrior finishes next turn, second worker to follow:

We will be the first team to grow to size 3 next turn. Hopefully no one will be joining us there for a couple of turns. We need a final decision on what we are doing with the warrior when he comes out next turn. Which of the following are we doing:

A) Moving 3 tiles southwest (onto the grassland hill), then moving east
B) Moving 2 tiles southwest, then moving east (safer)
C) Skipping the southwest completely to go explore the southeast

The complete discussion on this is in the Micromanagement thread, go check it out and add your opinions there.

Two other teams grew to size 2 this turn, Apolyton and the German team. Apolyton also completed a warrior this turn; they are the team with the 11k Power rating. (We would have the same rating next turn had we not lost our earlier warrior.) There were two other warrior completions this turn, leaving 4k Power unaccounted for on the chart. I will bet that kjn can probably identify who built them - I'll leave that to him over in C&D.

Keep crossing your fingers that no teams run into us.

Turn 18 - 3280BC

Not even one comment in this thread since the last turn report! This is indeed the slow early portion of the game. lol

We have a military unit once more. The team consensus was to go and scout out the southeast corner, leaving the southwest alone for the moment. I went ahead and moved right away, since there was no trouble we could get into this turn. If an enemy unit were to show up on the hill tile NE-NE this turn, we can always move back into the capital next turn.

Assuming we see no enemies this turn, I'll try to play the next two turns towards the end of the turn order. No sense in taking unnecessary chances. I would hate to move out the warrior, only to see someone show up after we moved out away from the capital.

We grew to size 3 this turn, and started on a 5t worker. We talked before about how this wasn't the greatest start for Expansive, since many teams were able to found on a plains hill and work a 3/1 deer tile, effectively getting the normal Expansive bonus for free. Here's a situation where being Expansive does matter - it will be very tough for another team to get a 5t worker out this quickly. Not until they get both food bonuses connected, anyway.

Note that we are size 3 while Spanish Apolyton and CivPlayers are both still size 1. jive

kjn has already covered all the Demographics stuff for this turn, I'll simply quote his earlier post:

Quote:Cliff's Notes: Two score increases, besides us. CivFr researched Hunting, and CFC reached 2 pop. Univers built a warrior.

Average GNP rose by 1, probably since CFC picked up a second 3F1C-tile.

Global soldiers rose 5000, of which 1000 comes from CFC gaining a pop point. 4000 remains to be assigned. Our increase from 7000 to 9000 meant we went from #5 to #3 in the ranking.

Global pop increase fits with a civ going from 1 to 2 pop.

CivFr gained their new tech in 7 turns, and it was an undiscounted one. They had 5b overflow from Agriculture, and may have picked up a few more (I think some teams may have riverside grains). I'm pretty confident they've researched Hunting, adding 2000 in power, since Fishing would make little sense.

Who built the warrior?

CivFr increased their power from 7k to 9k, and we are #3 in power now, behind CivFr and Apolyton. Thus WPC didn't build the warrior, since that would put them too at 9k.

Spanish and CFC has been at 2hpt, and would need 8t to build their warriors, which would arrive T20. Apolyton, the Germans, CivFr, and CivPlayers has built warriors recently.

That leaves Univers. They had a T6 warrior, and then continued with a second until T9, putting 9H into it. Then they finished their worker on T17, and worked 5F6H for that turn, finished their warrior.

One last image:

Who's number one now? Suck on that, other teams! :neenernee

Another 24 hours later, and We Play Civ still has not ended their turn. (Every other team has done so.) At this point, I was fed up with waiting and played our turn. We should be fine, and if for some reason we aren't, chalk it up to terrible cosmic karma.

Warrior move reveals nothing too interesting. Could be hidden strategic resources there, of course. When we move next turn (playing last no matter what for safety, which means we will surely have to use the full 48 hours rolleye) we'll see a lot more tiles.

There's yet another hill tile SW-SW of our current position, so if we really wanted to be ballsy, we could go another tile even further out. Probably a bad idea though. Really a shame we lost that initial warrior, who would have had all this mapped out already.

Late turn Demos. I don't think there's anything here we haven't already noticed and processed.

Turn 20 - 3200BC

We have a new micro plan, which delays the second city by a single turn in exchange for producing a T26 warrior. We grow to size 4 before building the settler under this plan, and produce slightly more commerce, which should more or less be an even trade for settling Mansa's Muse a turn later. But the real gain is having a second warrior in place, which will make everything much, much safer. We'll also be able to get in some more important scouting information as well. See the Micro thread for the full information.

This is where we're moving the warriors. More or less anyway. As such, our warrior in the southeast is shifting over to the southwest, so we don't reveal any new tiles this turn.

I saw no reason to have our warrior sit two tiles from the capital when he could be one tile away instead. I moved NW instead of W in the picture above. We'll move west the next two turns, staying one tile away from the capital, and then move onto the plains hill on T23 as in the picture. Just a little safer this way, and we don't need to fool around with the turn timer. I've already ended our turn in the hopes of speeding along the other teams.

Our worker finished the deer camp, and we appear to be the first team in the game with two improved resources. Here is Adventure One:

14 foodhammers on Turn 20. Not too shabby. jive Note that we will also discover Pottery next turn and proceed on to Mining tech.

Our team is pretty awesome.

Turn 21 - 3160BC

This was a fairly uneventful turn. Our worker moved south and pre-cottaged the grassland river tile. The next worker is due in two more turns. Our warrior continued his slow travel path over to the southwest corner.

We finished research on Pottery tech, just in time for us to start building cottages on the floodplains. New research into Mining, due in 7t after we build our first cottage.

Most of the score increases this turn were land points from teams who moved on the first turn and then settled on T1. Apolyton grew to size 3, and CivPlayers researched Mining tech, likely en route to Bronze Working next.

See you in another 48 hours.

Turn 22 - 3120BC

Another quiet turn. We moved the warrior another step closer to the southwest corner. Our worker moved a tile southwest and pre-roaded the plains tile. The second worker finishes next turn. We spotted a lion off to the southeast, possibly the same creature who devoured our first warrior.

We lose the extra Expansive point of production from the plains forest hill due to rounding. As a result, it's better to work the floodplains tile this turn for the 1 extra commerce. Warrior is queued up for next turn - we take 3t to produce the warrior and grow to size 4, both completing on T26.

Demographics update. We Play Civ and Apolyton both teched Animal Husbandry. CivFanatics and German team both grew to size 3. Most teams are likely building a second worker or a settler. See the C&D thread for the full report.

Turn 23 - 3080BC

Warrior exploration revealed another floodplains tile in the southwest, and the potential for more land down there than we initially expected. We will see a lot of tiles when we move onto the grassland hill next turn. Cross your fingers for some kind of useful resource; on that grassland hill would be an awesome place for our third city, if there's something else there. (On the coast for possible Great Lighthouse purposes, at least three floodplains for Financial, close enough to be easily defensible, etc.)

We also had our second worker finish this turn; this should be the earliest anyone has gotten a second worker. The new guy finished the road on the plains tile, and the first worker began cottaging the floodplains. That cottage will finish on T25. Adventure One will grow and produce another warrior in three turns, on T26.

We should be safe from anyone wandering into our capital. If an enemy warrior showed up this turn, we can move NW-NW back into our capital in time to get there. If they show up next turn, we have a warrior finishing in time on T26. Hopefully we'll continue to see nothing for the moment.

Micro plan has us working the plains hill again to complete the warrior before growth to size 3. Let me know if this is not correct.

We don't look so hot in the Demos at the moment, due to researching the no-prerequisite Mining tech and using the plains hill tile. Things should improve a lot over the next 10 turns; we start to take off as a civ between T30 and T40.

Elsewhere, Apolyton grew to size 4, CivPlayers grew to size 3, and CivFr received land points by virtue of being a Creative civ. We will get the same land points in two more turns. Apolyton is almost certainly starting a second worker or a settler this turn. They probably should do another worker first (or else they won't be able to keep up with tile improvement labor) but I wouldn't be surprised to see a settler. We'll know eventually based on when they settle their second city.

Turn 24 - 3040BC

We finally have some new map information to analyze:

The grassland hill revealed a lot of tiles, including a clams resource out in the fog. Based on the very limited map knowledge that we have now, red dot seems like an obvious location for our third city. Three tiles from capital but only two tiles of overlap, easily defensible (on a hill), on a river and on the coast, clams, four floodplains tiles, four more riverside tiles, and so on. The biggest downside is the lack of forests - this would be a tough spot to produce Great Lighthouse without choppable material. Maybe, maybe not. It's still the obvious best spot from what we've seen thus far (after the Mansa's Muse spot, of course).

We are still working the same tile configuration as last turn. Workers are in the process of cottaging the first floodplains tile. Growth to size 4 and second warrior are due in 2t.

No score changes this turn from anyone! Probably one of the last times we'll ever see that. I have not ended turn yet, but I will before I go to sleep later tonight.

Turn 25 - 3000BC

We've survived the first 1000 years largely intact, minus one warrior. Let's see what the next 1000 years (25 turns) will bring.

Our warrior moved back towards the capital. Our workers finished our first floodplains cottage, which we will begin working next turn. Another warrior and growth to size 4 next turn.

This is the one turn we have to work a grassland forest tile for overflow purposes (need 2 production overflow into the settler next turn). The settler will take 7 turns to complete.

Demographics look fairly pedestrian at the moment. They will look a lot better next turn at size 4 while working the cottage and a second floodplains. As far as what everyone else is doing, check out the C&D thread for the full report. Here are the cliffs notes:

kjn Wrote:Second round of land points for us, CFC, and the Spanish. The Spanish has an all-land BFC, while CFC has a single water tile.

CivPlayers and CFC both grew to size 4.

The Spanish researched Bronze Working, while Univers researched Animal Husbandry.

Despite what the C&D thread might have suggested, there are not thousands of impis on our borders. lol We still have met no one.

Turn 26 - 2960BC

The team has spoken - our warriors are taking the safer route.

Both warriors moved northeast this turn. I put the path of our new warrior in white text on the image above. Along hill tiles the next few turns, over to fogbust on the forested hill tile, and then down onto the Mansa's Muse tile itself on T32. The other warrior's planned route is in yellow. Once they are both on those two hill tiles on T30, we should have tons of vision on the whole area. We can also move onto nearby forest tiles if we want to bait an animal into attacking ahead of time. We'll see. Use this as the general plan and then make alterations as needed depending on what comes up.

Our workers both moved a tile east and started our second floodplains cottage. It will be done in two more turns. Started on settler (7 turns) in the capital. We grew to size 4 this turn:

We may or may not be the first to three improved tiles, I'm not sure. We almost certainly should be the first to four improved tiles - the other teams that grew to size 4 didn't stop to build a second worker. In similar fashion, we aren't going to be the first team to plant a second city (Mansa's Muse will be founded T34 if all goes according to plan). But we'll be working all improved tiles everywhere, and our economy should be tops in the world.

Demographics starting to show this already:

First in Food and one point of commerce off of the GNP lead despite researching no-prerequisites Mining tech. Any pre-requisite tech puts us into first place in GNP. Very interesting that one team has 9 Production this early though. Almost certainly one of the teams that rushed Mining tech and built mines with their worker(s). One poor team only has 9 food. I would be kind of worried already if that was me.
