Quote:Menagerie,

We at Gillette are extremely happy to meet you. We're especially eager to introduce you bearded folk to our new line of razors. You obviously could use them. wink

We see that we are neighbors, so we'd very much like to get ourselves on friendly terms. We see no reason for hostilities between our nations, especially because we Vikings quite like animals. Surely some sort of animal for razor trade could be worked out. We'd also be interested in exchanging some intel as well, so that we're both at an advantage dealing with other neighbors. Have you met anyone else yet? We have met the Tropical Trolls team so far, and they appear to be our other neighbor.

Thanks,
Gillette
Pleasant enough. We could respond that they're the only folks we have met so far, or mention about the possible Pirates to our north.

I honestly don't see the harm in mentioning we've met the pirates. Just start friendly and keep it friendly for now.

Yeah, they offered a piece of info for free, and we started with a very small piece of info for free as well (that we know they are to the south of us).

I think that calls for another piece of info for free, on the theory of using small favours to gain good relations. Mentioning that we have seen evidence of the pirates to our north is exactly the type of thing that we can mention.

Given their little joke about trading razors for animals, I think we can make a counter-joke too: offer to trade our fine meat for their iron.

Hehe, it's not a free info it's a bait lol I sense Kyan's work here smile

- we already knew that they had discovered his other neighbor, through EPs disposal.
- after geting our greetings message, saying they are to the south, they started to wonder how do we know that. We can know that by the scout info (finding their scout or the capital and retreating), or guessing by finding other neighbour to the north. They would like to know which of these versions is true.
- our diplomatic position is stronger if we have only one neighbour to focus on and they have two. They will be a much more eager to accept a fair borders agreements in such circumstances.
- we would not like rather be caught red handed, if the Pirates are informed about our existence from Gillette and not from us smoke

Politics and Civilization are the games of interests. If we want them to become our friends let's make it profitable for them. Such a small favor give us nothing, and still can lower our diplomatic position, and have possible future repercussion after Gilletes and Pirates contact.

If we can make a favor for free (like them informing us about the other neighbour contact we already knew) lets do it. But if the favor can have a negative repercussion for us .... I wouldn't do this.

Problem with withholding this information from them is that they can see that we've met other people from the EP. I.e. they already know and by telling them we've met other teams we actually give them pretty much no new information.

Hehe, but we didn't meet any other teams lol
And even if we do they wouldn't know that as long as we put +4 EP/turn on them wink

I don't think there's much to be gained from that kind of behaviour honestly. All of the teams will meet sooner or later on this map and these small bits of information that don't actually reveal anything of value is stuff that's tailor-made for diplomacy. They get to know their neighbour down south (or wherever, I don't remember the map) five or something turns before they find out themselves? Whoop-di-doo.

I actually agree with Mortius on this one. I'd rather not tell them that we know where the Pirates are just yet. We have plenty of time to later on give them that free piece of info if we feel like it. For now, my vote is that we tell them we have not yet met any other civ's.
This does one other thing of making them think our scouting has been in their direction, and not to the north. So they may think that we're both looking at the same lands.

I'd lean towards being friendly and telling them myself... they'll find out sooner or later anyway, and we don't really gain anything by playing coy with them. Sure it was a calculated move on their part to give us a little piece of info, but there's really no harm in us reciprocating.

Though I'm content with whatever the majority wants. smile
