Did another off-the-cuff sim, going mining > BW > AH. By turn 30, cap was size 3 working pigs, sheep, silver, AH just finished. 2 Workers, 2 Warriors, Settler due to complete in 1 turn (used 2 forest chops). Not that big a fan. Capital is smaller, and had to use 2 forests to get the Settler out even later. So I guess I'll just deal with a delayed(?) Bronze Working and hope I don't get Impi rushed.

Kay, I'll bump the threat level up.
Honestly, I don't think any of our opponents are players I can steamroll. I'll have to make good use of our AI Diplomacy+ and try to ruin one person's game at a time. I'll also let early scouting either push me towards or away from the Henge plan I had laid out. You might like that. If it looks like there are many options for good 1st ring cities, I probably won't pursue it after all. Or if we start next to HRE. Watch me be wrong about them going for henge.
"Quantity does have a quality all its own."
One of my favorite Com quotes. I'm sure he's said it in almost every game thread he's made; it seems like his mantra. Or, at least, a nice well-worn saying.
Heh, it was actually Stalin, at least most likely. But in soviet civilization, quote cites you!
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Well, you're the one I heard it from first.
I'd have to do some research, but as you imply, it could be misattributed. Of course, now I'm going to have to doubt everything you've ever said. You appear so well-versed in so many things, how do I know you're not actually several gnomes working together? Why gnomes? Why not? 1st turn scouting, btw. Gonna head in the direction of that other deer. Maybe we won't need Agriculture for a while?
Turn 1:
So, one option is to settle 1S of where the scout is standing. Could at least get trade routes with the capital by roading the capital Deer. The map, or at least this region, is very hilly. Even with the food bonuses, will be hard to work all the tiles unless I put farms down instead of cottages, which I am tempted to do. How early can a hammer economy begin to work? Just need Alphabet and Currency for Research and Wealth builds respectively? I doubt I can get far without at least a cottage core, though. On the other hand, in the short-term, I only want enough economy to get basic military techs, so an early farm & mine strategy, growing tall, and pumping out Axemen might not be so bad. Read: Very bad.
Sounds like a plan.
And for what it's worth, I think that without a better location or better micro, I could do Stonehenge in second city by, like, the late T40s (46-48). Would probably lose that to anyone else determined to get it. Good news is that fast AH and BW means that we'll know where early strategic resources are. Bad news is that I bet everyone else will get those techs quickly as well. |
